Chapter 66: Chapter 66

Winter and Sebastian walked out of the office side by side after a long day of work. Iris was surprised to see them together but said nothing, thinking her comment might ruin the harmonious atmosphere.

She watched Winter and Sebastian enter the elevator before finally voicing her thoughts, "They actually look very good together. I hope this is a sign of them making up. Maybe the huge fight before was just a lover’s quarrel, normal in a marriage."

Iris had been married far longer than Winter, so she wasn’t foreign to the idea of a huge quarrel that almost ended in divorce. She had many quarrels, though she always made up with her husband in the end.

Meanwhile, Winter and Sebastian stood together in silence as Sebastian pressed the elevator button to go down.

The air around them was so uncomfortable, so he tried to break the ice by commenting, "Did you see her face before? Iris seems surprised to see us walking together. We should do this more often."

"Naturally. She probably thought we were going to divorce soon after our huge fight," Winter said calmly.

Sebastian couldn’t guess what was in Winter’s mind from her tone. She was always calm and collected, and though sometimes she’d let her emotions get the better of her, she’d quickly recover and act stoic again in front of him.

Not wanting to play a guessing game, he added, "I think that’s a good thing. We need to look friendly in front of others so they won’t think there’s a crack in our relationship."

"We don’t have any relationship, Sebastian. This marriage is a sham, and the only reason I keep you around is because you’re a talented CEO that can maintain this company," Winter said. "But you’re right. We must maintain a facade so people won’t try to take advantage of our situation. I also need you to work professionally and keep up this farce between us when we’re at formal parties, charity events, or even informal gatherings with other businessmen."

Sebastian was saddened, knowing that Winter’s heart was as cold as ice. Even after he showed his sincerity, she showed no sign of kindness towards him.

’It’s expected, though. Maybe I was just being too hopeful,’ Sebastian told himself.

They left the elevator and breezed through the crowded lobby together.

Everyone stopped and stared at the couple because they knew Sebastian was married to Madam Winter, but this was the first time they saw them walking together.

Sebastian was nervous and excited at the same time. He was so giddy at the idea of walking with his wife. He tried his best not to show his big, proud smile and to maintain his steady steps so he wouldn’t suddenly skip like Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz.

Meanwhile, Winter was far less happy than Sebastian. She didn’t really care if she had to walk side by side with Sebastian. She knew the idea was repulsive, but she was professional enough to know that maintaining a farce of a good marriage around people would benefit the company.

Now that they knew Winter was the owner and Sebastian was the CEO, as long as they stood strong together, nobody would dare to think the company was unstable.

’I can do this much to ensure my husband’s company is safe,’ Winter told herself.

They walked out of the office, and Sebastian took out his car key. He smiled at his wife and said, "Let’s go home, Winter. It’s been a long day at work."

"Hm, you can go first. I’ll call Arthur to pick me up," Winter said.

The smile on his face faltered a little.

"You can tell your driver to go alone. I’ll drive you home, okay?"

"No need," Winter refused again. This time, her tone was firmer than before. "And you don’t need to worry about your image, Mr. Saenz. We’re already out of the office."

Winter looked around her surroundings, adding, "And nobody seems to pay us mind now."

Sebastian knew that Winter willingly walked with him side by side for the sake of the good image in front of the company’s employees. But he liked to delude himself into thinking she wanted to be by his side because she had forgiven him.

On top of that, he wanted to make a little progress with Winter. He was so impatient that sometimes he crossed the boundaries without realizing it, hoping Winter would tolerate him more and more until she decided to accept him.

Just as he was about to persuade her again, a car suddenly parked right in front of them. Arthur quickly got out and approached Winter.

He intentionally stood between Sebastian and Winter, then offered Sebastian a perfunctory politeness. "Excuse me, Mr. Saenz. Madam Winter called me to pick her up. I will take it from here."

Sebastian’s smile vanished completely when this military man blocked his view of his wife. He glared at Arthur, but the latter wasn’t fazed at all.

Sebastian had a few memories of Arthur in his previous life. This man had been Winter’s bodyguard and driver for years, as Aiden employed him.

Arthur was a dedicated bodyguard who ensured that Winter would be safe in a certain situation, such as in public or an event. He was like a shadow that lingered behind her.

And Sebastian hated it.

This man obviously had so much forbidden love for Winter, and the fact that Winter didn’t kick him out of her life after they got married only exacerbated Sebastian’s jealousy.

He had asked Winter to kick this bastard out of her life, but she refused. She had grown hardened to Sebastian’s request, and his mood grew weary every day because of Arthur.

He began to wonder if Winter was cheating on him with Arthur. After all, they had known each other for so long.

Sometimes, his jealousy took control of his mind, and he began to think that maybe Winter had even cheated on Aiden with Arthur, too.
