Chapter 29: Who Are You?

Azariah twitched as light entered his eyes after a gruesome amount of time.

As he tried to stand up, he found himself fully refreshed and healed, like he had just woken up from a year-long nap.

’Is this how blinds feel when they see for the first time?’ Azariah wondered, though they could never see anyways.

Looking around, he saw that he was in a destroyed building with heaps of rubble lying around him.

The roof of the house had fully collapsed and as he looked outside, he was left bewildered to see a sight of complete destruction.

For miles on end, all he could see were destroyed buildings and houses that were now silently resting under the striking glare of the sun.

Dusting the dirt from his clothes, Azariah carefully stepped over the rubble of the house he was in.

As he was walking out, he saw a torn photo in the distance sticking out from the rubble.

Some people were standing outside a house with smiles on their faces. It didn’t take much common sense to figure out who they were.

They were probably the people who lived here in this destroyed house that once stood like it did in the picture.

’What even happened here?’

Azariah finally stepped out of the house, out into the dusty air, and the bright glare of the sun hit right on his skin.

Just as he was about to move again, he heard a voice from the side.

"You’re up."

Azariah instantly got into a fighting stance but calmed down a moment later when he saw a man a few meters away from him.

He sat atop a large piece of rubble, focusing ahead into the distance, though his gray eyes implied that the man was blind.

His dirty long white hair was tied into a ponytail while dirt smeared his face and clothes.

’He seems old.’

"Who are you?" Azariah asked.

A chuckle escaped the man’s lips at his words.

"Me? I don’t know."

Azariah’s expression tensed up at his words.

’Why does this guy’s voice seem so familiar?’

It wasn’t anything close to what he could remember or had heard. It was way too rough and hoarse.

But it held some touch of familiarity that he couldn’t put a finger on.

Azariah was about to ask his next question but he was interrupted by the man on the rubble.

"Forget about me, that was a good job in the dark." He praised Azariah, who just remembered what went down a few minutes ago.

"Yeah, it was hard but I got around it."

Azariah had bigger questions pressing on his back but for some reason he knew the man wasn’t going to give him any answers.

First of all, the dungeon was supposed to end when he defeated the demon, so how did he get here?

And where were they even?

"I know you have a lot of questions in your mind but this isn’t the time for their answer." The man spoke up, as if he could see through Azariah’s thoughts.

The latter was taken aback at the sudden words, but the man simply smiled, as if it was no big task for him.

He put his hand behind his back, alerting Azariah, but a moment later, he threw him a scroll.

Catching it in the air, Azariah knew what it was.

The foundation.

"Take care of this, it’s the best gun foundation you will ever find." He laughed.

As much as Azariah wanted to tell him to not be so sure, the guy was right.

A 5-star gun foundation was practically non-existent in these times and yet, here it was.

Not only that, but within the few gun foundations that could be found within the world, it was the strongest.

"I’m assuming you are the creator of this?" Azariah asked and the man nodded proudly.

"Damn right I am."

One of the biggest advantages of this foundation—and one that no other foundation possessed—was its ability to work for every gun possible.

A big issue with gun foundations was that a foundation for a pistol wouldn’t be applicable for a rifle or a sniper.

One could argue that a sword foundation could be used for a katana or an odachi, but that was a different case.

There was a whole structural difference between a gun and a sniper, unlike a sword and a katana.

For this reason as well, not many opted to choose gun as their weapon.

Yet, this foundation was for every type of gun out there. A sniper, rifle, pistol, sheriff—everything.

It only told you how insane the creator had to be, that he had proficiency in all such types of guns.

And yet, Azariah was right in front of the guy.

"This foundation is insane."

The man smirked.

"Don’t have to tell me about that twice."

But as Azariah was about to speak, the man’s smile turned grave.

"Do not take that foundation lightly, however. Remember, do not proceed to the next form until you’re ready. Your body will become a meatpaste if you can’t handle this."

Azariah knew how serious he was by his voice. And he knew he meant every word of it.

A 5-star foundation wasn’t any joke for his weak body.

"The whole foundation is based on instant reloads and nullifying recoil. For such purposes you need to have an elite body or you’re done for."

Azariah nodded, looking at his arms and legs. Despite his constant training, he knew he was still weak.

He needed to get stronger. Much, much stronger.

"Good, I can see the willingness to improve." The man gave Azariah a smile.

Azariah nodded.

For moments, they stared at each other in silence until the man looked forward into the distance for a second and sighed.

Just as he opened his mouth to speak though, the sky suddenly started warping and he shut his mouth. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

"There isn’t much time left," he said in a grave tone.

Concern rose up in Azariah’s heart.

"Time in what?"

The man shook his head.

"Nothing. You better get ready to leave."

Azariah was taken aback. He had so many questions but yet this man kept ignoring them.

’Time in what!?’

Why did the man look so familiar to him?

However, the sky suddenly started to warp more and more and the man frowned at the sight.

"Remember all the things I told you. You need to get stronger, much stronger. Forget the pace you’re at right now; it isn’t enough."

Azariah wanted to ask, ’stronger for what?’ but he knew it wasn’t the time to disturb the man.

"The time is short and if you aren’t strong enough when it’s over, you’ll lose everything."

Suddenly, Azariah’s vision started to turn blurry as the man began fading from his sight.

Just as it turned completely dark though, he heard his final words.

"Remember it, Yuito."
