Chapter 33: Worst News

Azariah stood in training with a solemn look on his face. He had gotten tired of all the looks he was getting since the morning.

’It’s not like I’ve levelled up to Advanced.’ he complained.

It was getting tiring.

However, he could finally busy himself in some other task now that he was at the grounds.

As Azariah was picking his gun up from the shelves, he suddenly stopped.

’Hmm...’

After a moment of contemplation, he chose to not pick any bullets and just go straight out on the field.

Coming on the field, Azariah stared at his gun for a moment.

It was a basic revolver that could hold 12 bullets in its cartridge. In these modern times, they had found a way to slim down the chamber cycle so that it would look like an ordinary gun.

Twelve bullets wasn’t a lot. It was especially less in a long fight, and Azariah knew he had to find a better gun sooner or later.

But that could come afterward.

Azariah looked at the trigger of the gun.

The Sumeragi Foundation wasn’t just a simple foundation. It had a proper logic and theory behind it.

Based on six modes, it was a foundation that relied on absolute and perfect consistency paired with blinding speed.

The gun that Azariah had right now could barely even handle the first mode of the foundation, but he wasn’t too worried about that.

His body couldn’t go further than the first mode either.

It was his reactions that he had to tone. The basic and one of the most important things to focus on in the foundation was the trigger time.

Azariah pulled the trigger of the gun twice in quick succession.

Obviously, nothing happened since there were no bullets inside, but his focus was on the difference in time between the two executions of the trigger.

Though it looked blindingly fast and the same to the naked eye, it wasn’t. There was definitely a huge difference.

The first step to understand in the foundation was to be consistent. He had to completely nullify the margin of gap between his tries.

Though it seemed like an impossible task, it wasn’t. With time and practice, a samurai knew exactly how to cut a leaf in half every time.

A cook knew how to slaughter a chicken every time.

A woodcutter knew how to cut wood perfectly in half every time.

A cobbler with leather. A mason with stone. And much more.

He just needed to put his effort and mind over it. To not give up where most would.

Taking a deep breath, Azariah took his gun and aimed it at the target. He knew that what he was about to do next would seem funny to the people staring at him.

Regardless, he couldn’t care less.

Focusing on the target, Azariah pulled the trigger.

But then, no bullet came out. And he could hear some people confused as well about what he just did.

Nothing happened at the target either.

However, Azariah didn’t stop. He started pulling the trigger again.

And again.

And again.

And again.

Yet no bullet came out, and to the others watching, it started to become weird what he was trying to do.

Maybe his gun had malfunctioned?

Either way, Azariah was looking like a complete clown while doing so.

And yet, the man himself didn’t stop at the reactions around him. He kept pulling and pulling until even Evangeline, who had taken notice of everyone around her, stepped in.

"Student Azariah."

Azariah stopped pulling the trigger and looked at her, as if he didn’t know what was happening.

"Yes?"

"Are you having problems with your weapon?" she asked.

Azariah shook his head, and she looked at him with a weird expression.

"Then what are you trying to do?"

"Oh nothing, I have problems pulling the gun’s trigger sometimes and problems with my finger placement as well. So, I’m trying to fix those issues." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

At his words, a wild silence stretched for a few seconds across the grounds.

It was as if the students had heard the most ridiculous thing in their lives.

Even Evangeline couldn’t help but stare at him helplessly, as if trying to ask him if he was being serious right now.

Even a kid who played with a toy gun knew how to place his finger right and how to pull the trigger.

Yet this guy, who deliberately chose a gun instead of a normal weapon, didn’t even know how to put his finger on the trigger correctly?

And here everyone’s thought process was that maybe he chose it because he was exceptionally good at it.

A moment later, the class burst out in laughter, but Azariah still stared at Evangeline seriously, not understanding their laughter.

"Is something wrong?" he asked.

Evangeline couldn’t formulate words on what to say to him.

After a moment, she too shook her head, trying to keep a straight face.

"No, nothing. Please continue with your work, Student Azariah."

Azariah nodded and went back to pulling the trigger, ignoring the words and laughter of those around him.

It was the only way to not delve into a whole new topic of how he had a foundation and he had to do this and that.

There was no guarantee that there weren’t already Rosalith spies inside his class.

In fact, by being dumb, he was already eliminating himself as a potential guy to keep an eye on if any Rosalith member was watching him.

’It’s perfect.’

Azariah went back to his trigger-pulling practice, and he went on to do it a thousand times under the eyes of everyone.

********

After class, Azariah was told by Alyssia that she had to rush to a student council meeting, so she left.

The former didn’t mind. He had a patrolling duty as well.

Both were busy these days as riots kept getting worse and worse.

’The day is coming close.’

With how societies were ushering to develop their projects and brochures for the coming week, there was a rush at the academy’s public places.

And more rush meant more encounters.

Azariah noticed the absence of Victor in class today — that it was getting close.

Only if he could go and face him right now. There was nothing more that Azariah wanted.

However, he knew he would get absolutely rolled over if that happened.

No matter how much he was improving, Victor with his other goons would make him stand no chance.

Maybe if he had Yvan with him.

It was a possibility.

However, it was also not confirmed if eliminating Victor would eliminate the Rosalith’s attack.

’If I’m right in my current assumptions, by now Victor is nothing but fodder for them. The students have already infiltrated.’

And unfortunately, Azariah’s worst predictions were about to be proven right as he entered the committee room.

As he entered, he saw Yvan standing by the wall and all the captains, and Darius sitting in their chairs with solemn looks on their faces.

It was as if something bad had happened. And as he arrived, Melissa’s eyes locked with him to break out the news.

"Division 1 cadets have started disappearing."
