Chapter 104 - Finding Jack

Joey turned out to be a rather talkative guy, and he sent out a barrage of questions.

The group briefly answered all they could and stood up to leave. They wasted enough time already.

Joey waved them goodbye from the entrance. The thugs around pretended to not see them.

"I say we stop here for today," said Myra.

"We found a few clues to follow; that's enough. I'll try to get us some tickets for the theater play." She added.

They still had lessons tomorrow; it wouldn't be good to stay overly late.

"And I'll investigate the book version of the play. I'll let you know if I find anything," Rose said with a push of her glasses.

Her face was colored with a bit of excitement. She felt like a detective at this moment.

"I'll ask Albert again; maybe he will know something," said Cyril.

Since they were taking roles like that, he felt he should do something too. It wouldn't take too much time anyway.

With this done, they slowly started walking home.

...

Back in his dorm, Cyril stared at the things he was yet to move, and his mood immediately became tired.

Maybe I can finish up tomorrow... It's the weekend anyways.

"But you have plans. You said you'll go with Emily and Cedric to see Jack." Rhamn quickly reminded.

"Of course, if you don't want to, just don't go. What are they going to do about it?"

He was tempted for a moment, but in the end he still decided to fulfill his promise.

It was a somewhat interesting situation. Cyril was curious how the two siblings would reunite.

Thinking this, he sat on the bed and pulled out a vial with a few pills inside.

Before separating, Myra gave both Rose and Cyril their share of pills. She also explained how to use them.

Take one after an exercise...

Cyril took one pill and started practicing Selene's technique, which could effectively replace normal exercise.

"So it does work like that." Rhamn nodded in realization.

After hearing Myra's explanation, Cyril thought of an idea that only he could do.

"The human body achieves strength growth by repairing the damaged muscle tissue after an intense workout, making it thicker and tougher than before!" Rhamn explained with a raised index finger.

"This pill interferes in this process, 'helping' the body better repair your tissue, which results in an even stronger body, one that can even manipulate and store mana with more ease." She nodded in awe.

Yeah, it's similar to Selene's technique. Dragon Art does something similar, only it can alter any part of your body with mana itself, no pill required.

Thinking this far, Cyril got the idea of combining the two methods together.

In essence, he would use the pill to fuel the Dragon Art technique. He tried it out just now, and it worked beautifully.

He felt it was much easier and faster now to enhance his body.

Morpho nearby looked at Cyril with obsession, the desire for this pill going through the roof. She was also a practitioner of Selene's technique.

Cyril, of course, would not isolate her; the two were going to get stronger together.

Only Tigris was yet to succeed in this technique, so he couldn't use the pill to its full. Though it didn't look like he cared that much.

It seemed the fire within him was slowly going out. He no longer wished to improve his strength. Currently he was slovenly sleeping on the bed, not a single care in his head.

That might play in Cyril's favor for now. Since he only had a single person's share of pills, but there was Morpho here too.

Not to mention potentially more creatures being added. With a rival for Morpho already planned. freewebnσvel.cøm

This gave Cyril a foreboding feeling. He might need quite a lot of resources in the future.

I'll have to think something about that... Thankfully he was not without options.

Getting rid of the distracting thoughts, Cyril, with Morpho at his side, practiced for a bit before going to sleep.

...

Tomorrow, after his usual routine, Cyril immediately went to search for Albert to ask him a few things.

It didn't take too long; he found this emotional young man in his class, preparing for the lesson.

Though what surprised him was that Monty was around him; the two looked like friends, even.

"So recently I found a piece of obsidian..." Monty was excitedly talking about his recent experiences.

Albert stood nearby with a blank expression, nodding a few times.

"Monty must be blackmailing him to be his friend..." Rhamn faked a few tears at the sight.

"I need to ask you something..." Cyril walked over, interrupting their little gathering.

Albert flinched slightly once he noticed Cyril but quickly composed himself. "What?"

"About La-" Slowly, said Cyril, but he was quickly interrupted by Albert waving his hand.

"Hey! Don't do this to me!" He whispered with a strained expression.

Monty, seated nearby, pretended not to see or hear this, staring at the spell making textbook with dead eyes.

Cyril calmly shook his head. "It doesn't matter. No one is around to listen in on us anyways."

Most of the students in this class had gathered on the far side of the room, away from here.

This wasn't because of Cyril; when he arrived, it was already like this.

At these words Albert's expression twisted a little, and he sighed with helplessness.

"So, the hooded man who roped you in was giving away pamphlets as well. What can you tell me about them?" Cyril continued, now without interruptions.

Albert contemplated for a few seconds, looked Cyril in the eyes, and slowly shook his head. "I-I didn't read it, sorry."

"We should've expected this—he can't read." Rhamn sighed in disappointment.

"That man just took me to the side and explained everything I told you already... And no one approached me yet," Albert cautiously whispered.

"Alright, got it," Cyril said and turned to leave, finished here.

He wasn't going to ask about the Eve of Freedom. Albert doesn't look like the type to enjoy watching theater plays.

As he was leaving, he noticed some of the stares the other students were throwing this way.

He expected the sneaky, unfriendly stares at him, but surprisingly many stared at Albert with dissatisfaction as well.

"I've heard why. Many people are blaming him for their miserable display during the exam. They are too scared to show their displeasure to you, but Albert is a perfectly valid outlet," Rhamn quickly explained.

"They are still blaming others for their own weakness... How pathetic!" Rhamn shook her head with genuine disgust.

While not as harsh, Cyril shared her opinion to some degree.

After Cyril thought about it some more, it was no wonder Albert was roped in to join a terrorist group during this vulnerable time.

...

Today was Saturday, and Cyril attended the lessons as usual. They passed without any trouble.

Neither Rose nor Myra had any results right now; it was still too early.

So Cyril wanted to go back and finish moving today, but the moment he stepped outside the auditorium, someone was already waiting there.

"Let's go," said Emily with determination, looking ready to fight.

Unfortunately, her fiery demeanor didn't spread to Cyril.

"Let me get ready. We'll meet at the academy gates," he simply said.

Emily's actions froze, but eventually she nodded and let him pass.

She didn't leave yet, however, presumably waiting for Cedric to grab him as well.

Using this opportunity, Cyril went back to his dorm to change his clothes, store some things, and take Morpho and Tigris.

He briefly contemplated inviting Rose and Myra but decided against it in the end. It was a family matter after all; there were enough outsiders as is.

Unfortunately, moving will have to wait for a little bit.

...

Once the time was right, Cyril arrived at the academy gates.

As expected, Emily was long there already, Cedric standing nearby with his usual smile on his face.

"Where are we going?" Emily eagerly asked the moment he got close.

"First, let's go to Coriander Street..." Cyril explained their next course of action.

The three people and two magic creatures went out together.

"I think I've heard of that place somewhere..." thoughtfully mumbled Cedric once they were on a manarail.

Recently Cyril felt he traveled on it quite a bit. He might even learn every conductor's name soon.

"Hidden Merit bar... Doesn't sound like anything good." Emily frowned.

Though her self-righteous act felt slightly weird.

"Are you not also a thief?" Voiced Cyril his confusion. "How did you even enroll in Ailanthus in the first place..."

Emily froze before she frowned and turned away from Cyril. "That was in the past, alright? People change..."

"I believe you. It's never too late to start living an honest life," cut in Cedric with a smile.

His face looked several levels brighter since she said that.

It was like Cyril's words opened a floodgate of some kind.

Cedric and Emily started talking without stopping about various uplifting topics.

Likely because they were nervous about the upcoming events.

Cyril could only listen to all this with a blank face. At least he had someone to talk to.
