Chapter 742: A Disappointed Father?

Chapter 742

"How about now?"

***

"..."

Silence settled in the room as Grey stared deep into Borfan’s eyes.

His heart thudding quietly.

’I... I saw no twitch. No itch or subtle positioning of his body that would betray his intention to move.

Yet he now stands beside me? And here I thought, in the grand scale of things, I’m a monster.

But if I am a monster, what shall I call him? Or was I distracted when he moved?’

"Gahahahaha~" Borfan suddenly threw his head backward, bursting into maniacal laughter.

"... Shoot! I really wanted to see your flustered expression. How I wish that mask was not on your face."

Tak. Tak. Tak.

The man could be seen retreating away from Grey without so much as brushing a single hair on his body.

For some reason, this indifference from Borfan seemed to irk him deeply, as faint lightning crackled visibly around Grey’s hands.

"If I were you, I wouldn’t do that," Borfan uttered over his shoulders without glancing back.

"... I don’t want to damage you, not yet," he added with a small smile flickering across his face.

’Why is he underestimating me so much? I hate this. I hate being looked down on like this. Sh... should I show him?’ Grey wondered with a deep frown beneath the mask.

It felt as if Borfan’s words had bruised the Supreme Magus’ ego.

"But if you still want to go ahead, do it. Let’s see how you will fare," Borfan said as he casually sat on the edge of the table in the room while staring at Grey.

With a deep inhale, Grey let the breath leave him in a slow, sharp exhale.

"I’m sorry."

Borfan tilted his head, an amused expression spreading across his face.

Meanwhile, Grey continued taking steady breaths, his lips pressed into a thin, firm line.

’Not yet.’

Then he added aloud:

"I just want to know why I was summoned by you. Did I do something wrong?"

Borfan let out a low sigh.

"Ah yes. Actually, you didn’t do anything wrong. Not at all."

"Then?"

"Isn’t it obvious by now why you have been summoned? But in case you are unaware, or simply pretending to be, I have a question to ask and an order to give."

Grey lifted an eyebrow.

"Hm?"

Borfan stood upright again as his gaze slowly swept over Grey’s form.

"Firstly... how do you seem unaffected even while standing before this intense pressure in the room? I’m curious."

’Hm?’

With a subtle shrug, Grey replied:

"Probably because I have trained in front of a volcano before. Then curiosity made me want to see what was behind the massive volcano, and I flew above it.

Enduring the treacherous heat for minutes on end. So I likely became accustomed to it and developed a natural resistance over time."

’Wait. Why am I overexplaining? You could have just said you trained in front of one. No need for a whole history lesson.’ He nearly facepalmed before forcing himself to calm down.

Borfan simply nodded with a faint smile.

"I see. Now, about my order. I want you to remove that ridiculous mask. I want to see your face."

’Huh? Hold on a moment. Who does he think he is? I’m the Supreme Magus! How dare he or... actually, what can I do?

I’m currently in his territory. It would be wise not to add him to my enemy list. I already have too many enemies as it is.’

With a tired sigh, Grey slowly lifted his hand to his face and pulled off the mask resting against it.

It seemed like steam was oozing from his face as the beads of sweat on his features finally slid down his chin.

But in truth, he was not flustered at all.

His face carried a calm indifference while still glaring at Borfan with quiet intensity.

"Perfect." The man beamed as he watched the mask dissipate from view until nothing remained.

’Hm?’

"Now, may I know why I was summoned?"

Grey demanded through clenched teeth.

He was trying his hardest not to appear disrespectful.

Borfan merely shrugged in response.

"... I called you here for two things, actually."

"Which are they?"

"Firstly, I heard what you did to the Behemoth clan and honestly, it pleases me that you put them in their place.

Though I am certain their leader will not stay silent about this. Hopefully, you will be fine when that happens.

But the main reason I summoned you here is to thank you for saving Anna’s life."

"Wait. I thought you did not care. Is that not why when Dame asked you for help, you refused?"

Borfan simply shook his head with a weary smile.

"... I care about all my children whether they are fragile or powerful. What I did was meant to push him. Push him to grow stronger. Push him to defend those he truly cherished. I wanted him to attempt to save his sister by himself.

I will not be here forever. He needs to find his footing in this world just like his brothers. Those two are already beasts in their own ways. His younger sister is also more capable than him."

"..."

A brief pause occurred before Borfan continued.

"But it was all for nothing. He still came to you to seek assistance. What a joke."

For a short moment, behind the appearance of a hardened, dominant leader, Grey could see the glimmer of a disappointed father hidden beneath the surface.

"But anyway, it is all good. I heard he has left the company of those useless friends and started moving with you and the Crimson Clan more. Hopefully, he will exceed his limits while following you."

’Honestly, this is not the image I painted of the leader of the Demonic Clan. Where is his powerful aura? Where is his scowl? Where is the dominating presence he was supposed to possess?’

With a quiet sigh, Grey lifted his head.

"And the second reason I was summoned?"

At those words, a dark glint flashed across Borfan’s eyes for a brief moment.

Grey caught it, and his heart thumped loudly for a second.

’Wh What is he planning?’

"I summoned you here to give you a gift for saving my daughter. Hopefully, you will enjoy this present."

As the words left his mouth, Borfan’s eyes instantly narrowed into a thin slit, radiating something far more ominous than before.
