Magus Supremacy-Chapter 760: Alignment of Goals
Chapter 760
"Wait, what?!"
To say Grey was shocked was an understatement.
He was currently beyond stupefied at the words that had just left the mysterious man’s mouth.
A vice clan leader wanting to take down the current head of the Waterfall Clan?
Yes, the vice principal of the Aetherian Academy also wanted the same thing.
But that was different.
He was not part of the Waterfall Clan. He was not the vice leader.
This man standing in front of Grey was.
So why? Why would he want to do this?
"Shocked, right?" The mysterious man let out a painful chuckle before straightening his posture.
"When you declared your intent the first time, I was equally taken aback. I wanted to talk you down, but before that, I needed to see something.
I needed to understand why you were so confident. I wanted to see why a kid would dare to think of doing something like that and how he intended to go about it."
He paused briefly before continuing.
"I have seen enough. From where I stand, I can sense that you are a six-star mage with control over four affinities... and Ki. That alone is absurd."
"Five," Grey interjected calmly.
"Sorry?"
"I was correcting you. I do not have four affinities. I have five. You are lucky I did not reveal them earlier. Otherwise, you would not be standing here giving me this speech."
The mysterious man froze.
His eyes widened in a mix of shock, disbelief, horror, and something dangerously close to excitement as he stared at Grey.
’Five affinities? How is that even possible? Who exactly is this kid?’
Realising he had lingered too long in his thoughts, the man exhaled and chuckled softly, regaining his composure.
"It seems I misjudged you," he admitted. "You are no longer just an anomaly. You are now a significant variable in the grand scale of things."
"Hm?" Grey lifted an eyebrow, but the man waved his hand dismissively.
"Ah. Now is not the time for explanations," he said.
"It would be wiser if we leave this place or move elsewhere before we continue. I would very much like to know you better."
He stepped forward with a calm, measured gait, careful not to do anything that might provoke an attack.
’With strength like this, he should be close to that stage. So why have they not noticed him yet? Or perhaps they have, and chose to ignore it?
No... those meddling fools would never overlook an anomaly of this magnitude. Something must be keeping them occupied.’
Grey watched the man approach cautiously.
That was when he heard footsteps behind him.
Turning slightly, he saw members of the Crimson Lotus Clan coming to stand beside him.
Alba, however, did not move an inch.
She remained where she stood, eyes fixed forward, fascination clearly etched across her face.
"You tried attacking him?" she suddenly whispered toward Gunlag, who stood about a metre away.
With his sharp senses, Gunlag heard her clearly and scoffed.
"Figured," she chuckled softly while rubbing her arm. "You should be grateful you still have your head on your shoulders."
Soon enough, the mysterious man stopped directly in front of Grey, staring deep into the warrior mage’s eyes.
"Before I fully commit to this," the man said calmly, "there is one thing I need to know."
"Shoot."
"I sensed hatred in your words earlier," he continued. "But I need to know if it runs deep enough for our cause. Tell me... what did the Otherworlders do to you? And what did Orion, in particular, take from you?"
"...."
Grey stared at the mage for several seconds, his expression unreadable, as if weighing something far heavier than words.
Then, finally, he opened his mouth to respond.
"They took everything from me. I lost a lot because of them. Now, you do not need to know the details about that. As for Orion, my friends are trapped inside his academy, and I intend to free them."
Hearing those words, the mage nodded firmly, a warm and genuine smile forming on his face.
"Then let us be partners," he said without hesitation.
"I want to bring down the Aetherian faction. Though he was the one who created it, and though I once served as his loyal aide, I can no longer stand by and watch those monsters corrupt and ruin it. So I will help you strip it down to nothing, strange warrior mage."
The mysterious man stretched out his hand toward Grey.
Grey stared at the outstretched palm for a few seconds before exhaling slowly.
’For my cause, I need every single bit of strength I can gather. Whether I trust him or not does not change reality.
My enemies have an entire faction backing them. I need allies.’
With his decision made, Grey extended his own hand and clamped it firmly around the man’s.
"Grey. Grey Dawn," he said calmly. "Or you can call me the Supreme Magus."
"Stormspear. Fenrir Stormspear," the mysterious man replied, his smile widening.
The two quickly disengaged from the handshake.
Seeing this, the warriors who had arrived earlier began turning away, preparing to leave the scene when—
GRRRRRRRH—!
A loud, thunderous, beastly roar suddenly tore through the air with overwhelming intensity.
Rumble, Rumble, Rumble—!
The ground beneath their feet began shaking violently, as if a massive earthquake was about to split the land apart.
"Wh-what is happening?!" someone shouted in horror.
Grey turned sharply toward Fenrir, a deep frown forming on his face.
"This your doing?"
Fenrir shook his head immediately. "I was about to ask you the same thing."
Then...
BOOOM—!
Something massive erupted from the ground, sending huge slabs of earth flying into the air as a thick cloud of dust billowed outward.
Luckily, it had not surfaced directly beneath the humans.
Moments later, as the dust slowly settled, the terrifying figure standing before them came into view.
"Uhm... this is bad," Alba gulped loudly.
Towering over them was a five-metre-tall beast, an abomination that looked like a twisted fusion of a lizard, a chameleon, and a frog.
Its skin was covered in countless spikes, jutting out like the quills of a porcupine.
Massive legs slammed against the ground, each limb lined with razor-sharp claws.
Its hide gleamed ominously under the light as crimson eyes scanned the gathered humans with uncontained rage.
"It’s the boss-class beast of this world," someone muttered in disbelief.
"A Divine-ranked beast!"
