Magus Supremacy-Chapter 792: A Lapse
Chapter 792
Leaning, tilting, and blocking with either his palms or forearms, Rivock kept his eyes fixed on all the beasts.
It was as if he had eyes on every angle of his position, because whenever a powerful strike was headed for the back of his neck or skull, he was able to swiftly block or even avoid it before it connected.
It almost looked like he had another set of eyes behind him.
But that wasn’t true.
He simply possessed an exceptionally strong perception.
Even so, that alone couldn’t save him, as he was still getting boxed into the same spot.
The beasts, as if developing some kind of hive mind... or shared intelligence, didn’t let him leave their circle.
He was kept there deliberately while they made sure to deal continuous damage.
With how minimal the injuries on his body were, if someone looked at him at that moment, they would have assumed the beasts were too weak or barely causing harm at all.
But a second glance at the surroundings where they stood would make anyone think twice before making such careless comments.
The ground beneath them was constantly shuddering and cracking repeatedly.
Even the air itself suffered, assaulted by repeated bangs that made spectators’ ears ring for brief moments.
Bending down to evade a swing aimed at his neck, Rivock executed a swift sweeping kick that sent one of the beasts crashing heavily into the ground.
Before he could break free from the bondage of their formation, another beast immediately covered for the fallen one, keeping Rivock rooted in place just long enough for the downed beast to recover and rise again.
All this while, he never took his eyes off them, continuously scanning for a flaw.
A weakness.
An opening.
Meanwhile, Grey frowned as he watched, displeased by how long things were taking.
’What is Rivock doing? Why is he still trapped for so long? He isn’t exactly the brightest fellow, but he has more than enough strength to back himself up. So why not bulldoze through them immediately?’
He paused, his eyes narrowing slightly as he focused on the beasts.
’... I’ve tasted his strength before, back when I had only awakened two of my affinities and was around stage two. So I know just how terrifying he can be. So why is he... holding back? Oh! He is holding back, huh? Is it for the plan later on?’
Meanwhile, Rivock took a claw slash to his arm, droplets of blood spraying out, yet he didn’t stop... observing.
After a few more hits and evasive maneuvers, he finally saw what he had been waiting for.
A lapse.
A fleeting gap in the beasts’ coordination.
His grin widened instantly as he prepared to repay them in their own coin.
Meanwhile, in the North Booth, Beatrix watched with visible tension as Rivock somehow continued to stand his ground against the relentless beasts.
"Do you all think it’s possible for him to actually clear this wave?" she asked.
Leader Ken remained silent for a moment, staring ahead as the beasts swarmed over Rivock, barely even allowing glimpses of his clothes, talk more of his body.
"... Highly unlikely," Ken finally said. "Unless he’s as strong as a vice leader of a clan, or perhaps... a faction leader, I don’t see him pulling this off. Because even a stage seven warrior could lose their life in this exact situation."
He paused, eyes narrowing further.
"And based on what I can sense from him, he’s only a stage six warrior. Though admittedly on the extremely high end."
At that, Beatrix finally relaxed into her seat, a soft smile spreading across her face.
"Great."
Elder Ron, however, did not share the same sentiment.
He continued stroking his beard thoughtfully, keeping his concerns to himself.
All he did was cast a brief glance toward the participants of their own faction, sigh quietly, and then return his attention to the battle unfolding before them.
The moment Rivock saw what he had been waiting for, Ki surged violently through his leg, powering it with explosive strength as one of the beasts positioned slightly to his right dashed forward to attack him.
They usually rotated their shifts.
Four would rush him, keeping him constantly on edge, and after getting tired—or noticing that the human was beginning to adapt—they would leap back.
Almost instantly, the remaining four would then launch their assault.
The rotation between their numbers was random, which made him unable to counterattack just yet.
Hence, he decided to observe a little longer while continuously tanking hits from the beasts.
Finally, after observing enough, he decided it was time to strike.
’A twitch. Which means three are about to attack this time. There will be a brief window,’
he mused inwardly as his eyes glided around, catching sight of the three beasts leaping toward him at tremendous speed.
’... Others on standby, ready to back up at any moment from now.’
The three beasts reached him almost immediately after launching into the air, moving like lions from ancient times. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Claws unfurled, ready to continue their vicious barrage, when Rivock smirked and swung his right leg into the air with all his might.
The Ki that had been surging through his leg earlier burst out visibly, forming a curved line of yellow energy that slammed into the beasts almost instantaneously.
The beasts froze midair as the arc of energy smashed into them.
Even the spectators in the stands only saw the Ki flash and the beasts halt for a brief second, then—
TCHAKKK—!
It cleaved through them like a hot knife ploughing through butter, causing their split bodies, blood, and innards to rain down from the sky.
The gruesome sight stunned the remaining five beasts, all of whom lost their composure for a fleeting moment.
That moment was all Rivock needed to unleash carnage.
Because in the very next split second, the direct descendant darted forward like a blur.
The sudden movement snapped the remaining beasts out of their daze.
But it was already too late.
Rivock slid across the blood from the fallen beasts on his knees, palms facing downward as he glided across the ground.
His body bent backward at an almost impossible angle, to the extent that the back of his head nearly touched the ground as he slid beneath one of the beasts, getting behind them all and cutting off any chance of escape.
Springing back to his feet, Rivock grinned widely as he leaped into the air.
"Bye."
Snap—!
A bright yellow light appeared on the ground before the beasts—specifically along the path where Rivock had placed his palms—stretching out and ending directly in front of the stunned monsters.
Before they could even register what was happening—
BOOOOM—!
A clamorous explosion rocked the air in an instant.
