Chapter 800: The Day of Reckoning (1)

Chapter 800

It felt like time came to crawl in the East booth.

One moment, Mada was kneeling and expressing gratitude.

The next, he was aiming an attack.

At his own father no less.

It was shocking, which was why the other leaders couldn’t even react in time.

’Please... let it hit.’ Mada silently prayed inwardly as his sword was now mere inches away from Orion’s neck.

When he cast a glance at the man’s eyes, he only saw...

... unsurprise?

The way everything seemed to crawl in the eyes of the others, things suddenly accelerated in Mada’s vision.

One moment, he was launching an attack.

The next second, Orion vanished from view, allowing the sword to cleave through empty air harmlessly.

Another second later, a powerful kick landed squarely at the back of his head, sending his entire body crashing into the chair Orion had been sitting on before sliding forward across the floor in immense pain.

Though powerful, the kick clearly wasn’t aimed at killing him, as Mada could still be seen struggling to rise.

Only for the dozen men Orion had brought with him to swiftly surround Mada, their weapons drawn and on full display.

Blades gleamed, tips pointed directly at the betrayer.

Though he was the heir to the clan and a direct descendant, that title no longer mattered.

He had just attempted to assassinate the current leader.

Regaining composure from their shock, the other leaders sprang out of their chairs with deep frowns etched on their faces.

"MADA! What the hell was that?!" Rowen barked, fury flashing violently in his eyes.

The descendant didn’t reply immediately.

The corner of his mouth twitched slightly before—

"... The day you all pay for your sins has arrived."

A whisper sounded from behind Rowen.

Before he could even think of moving,

Clang—!

The sharp sound of steel colliding echoed through the booth as Rowen spun around.

His eldest son—Drevor—stood before him, blade raised, blocking a strike from another attacker.

Tilting his head slightly to get a clearer look, Rowen saw Rivock locked in a clash against Drevor.

"I knew something was wrong the moment I saw you conversing with commoners," Drevor said with cold calmness, his glare locked onto Rivock’s eyes.

"I realized this wasn’t the younger brother I knew. And when Mada attacked, I was already on guard."

Rivock didn’t even flinch, calmly maintaining his brother’s gaze.

Orion, who was watching everything unfold, didn’t look surprised in the slightest.

He merely crossed his arms over his chest, observing the chaos with detached composure.

"Can someone explain to me what is going on?!" Selene roared furiously as her gaze darted around.

That was when Noelle stepped forward.

"Leader. You need to surrender yourself so we don’t have to take your life."

"Eh?" Selene froze, taken aback by her daughter’s words.

For as long as she could remember, Noelle had always called her "mother."

But now... she was calling her "leader"?

Wait—did she just demand her surrender like this?

"Take my life?! Hahahaha... what a nice joke,"

Selene laughed lightly.

Only to see Noelle draw her whip and shift into a battle stance.

"Oh? You’re serious?"

With a deep frown, Selene turned toward Leonardo, the vice principal of the Aetherian Academy and her vice clan leader.

"Restrain her for me already."

Leo inhaled sharply, then exhaled as he shook his head.

He lifted the cane in his hand and pointed it forward.

"I’m sorry, but I can’t restrain her... not today."

Selene’s frown deepened.

"Wait. Don’t tell me..."

"Yes. They are all part of this together," Orion answered calmly, his tone eerily composed.

And as if on cue, Gunther drew both swords from his back and lunged forward.

Sera also drew her blade and followed immediately after him.

"Ah... it’s finally time, eh?" Fenrir muttered with a wide grin.

In an instant, the East booth descended into chaos as betrayal unfolded in the blink of an eye.

Within a single heartbeat, Gunther and Sera crossed the distance, attacking Orion simultaneously from both sides.

The man remained composed as he stared at the swords heading straight his way.

"What a shame," Orion muttered as a crushing pressure instantly descended upon the booth.

With a swift kick, visible Ki erupted in the form of a devastating wave.

Before the duo could even react, the wave slammed into them, sending both bodies hurling violently into the booth.

Cracks spiderwebbed across the glassy structure that was supposed to be sturdy enough to withstand any amount of pressure.

Seeing that Orion’s back was turned, Mada swirled Ki around his feet and exploded forward—faster than the guards could react.

Visible Ki gripped his sword like a yellow wave as he swung it toward Orion’s exposed back.

Before the blade could land, it was as though the man phased through the attack entirely before delivering a devastating kick straight into Mada’s back.

Blood poured from the boy’s mouth as his entire body shot forward, colliding into the booth before, with a loud ringing crash, the entire section where the trio had collided finally collapsed.

*****

Back outside, everybody was eagerly anticipating the start of the second segment while chatting amongst themselves when a sudden thunderous ring echoed throughout the entire coliseum.

Everyone turned toward the source, only to see a portion of the East booth collapse as three bodies were hurled through the air like ragdolls.

They crashed into the ground with a heavy skip.

— Huh? What is going on?

— An attack?

The question was answered almost instantly as a dozen guards rushed out from the booths, dashing toward the trio who were just beginning to rise from the ground.

Taking a hit from Orion was like being struck by four charging bulls at once.

They were in no state to defend as the twelve guards descended upon them until—

"Noir," Grey whispered under his breath.

— Fuck! What has been prick— Ahhhhh!

A scream tore through the crowd as something small, akin to a puppy, appeared in front of the man who had just spoken as if it had always been there.

That was because it had.

The next second, it leapt into the air and, mid-crash, began expanding—enlarging into something as massive as a multi-story building.

The guards only saw a massive shadow cast over them before red-hot laser beams streaked through the air, burning straight into their heads and causing them to pop like melons.

No amount of Ki coating could save them as their necks began oozing blood like fountains.

THUD—!

The culprit landed casually, kicking up a cloud of dust into the air.

When it finally settled, the crowd stuttered in disbelief.

"A-A beast?!"

"It’s a freaking giant wolf!"

Orion stepped out from the East booth, which now looked moments away from total collapse.

He walked forward slowly, calmly, as if he owned the entire place.

His gaze landed on the giant wolf standing before the trio, who were now slowly rising to their feet.

"I see. A mage is the cause of all this, eh?" He smirked as he stopped roughly eight meters away from the beast.

Tilting his head, he looked toward Mada, Gunther, and Sera, who now stood directly beside Noir, fully prepared for battle.

"Why?" Orion asked calmly. "Why the sudden betrayal, huh? Why are my kids planning my assassination?"

"Because today is the day of reckoning!"

A booming voice crashed through the arena, causing everyone to twist and turn in search of the source.

At the same time, Orion felt something—danger.

He swiftly leapt away just as someone appeared within his view.

Crimson hair. Brown eyes. A confident smirk plastered on his face, clad in a flowing purple robe.

Seeing the figure, Orion nearly had a heart attack as shock surged through him.

"Grey Dawn?!"

"What’s up, Orion?" Grey grinned.
