Chapter 857

BOOOOM—!

Another violent shockwave smashed into the onlookers, sending them sliding backward from their precarious positions as the very arrows Orion had sought to dodge bashed into him, the kinetic force pushing him several inches back.

A dense, choking dust cloud formed around him for a fleeting moment, only for the hybrid to burst through the haze fiercely, dispersing the particles almost immediately with his raw momentum.

He crossed the distance between himself and the mage in a heartbeat, a blur of obsidian and malice.

Seeing the hybrid up close, Grey took immediate notice that his previous attack didn’t seem to inflict any genuine damage upon the man before him.

It was as if he were entirely unaffected by the elemental onslaught.

’Actually, if he can utilize the corrupted version of Ki, I can see how this invulnerability is plausible. Er... where were we again?’

Whooosh—!

The hybrid’s claws rushed at Grey from the flank with rapid velocity.

’... Oh, right.’

The mage was about to blink out of the way using his spatial magic when Orion suddenly smashed one foot onto the ground, shattering the stone instantly.

Then, his second foot whipped through the air, smashing directly into the mage’s face with the crushing force of a mountain.

Blood oozed from his nose and mouth as his body was flung across the ruins of the coliseum far faster than he could have ever anticipated.

He collided with the half-destroyed spectating stands, the impact throwing jagged rubble high into the air.

Moving like lightning itself, Orion materialized before the mage within a fraction of a second.

His long, deadly, pincer-like claws rose above his head like an executioner’s blade. Swinging the limb back down, he aimed to split the mage in two.

However, the earth surged and rose up, forming a sudden wall between them.

Still, Orion’s claws turned the fortification of earth into nothing but fine dust.

His claws continued their downward trajectory, but his target was nowhere to be seen; his pincer struck the ground with eradicating force, kicking up a storm of grit around him.

"Fusion magic; Thunder Lance!"

A gigantic spear of condensed lightning and wind burst forth from Grey’s hands, tearing through the cloud of dust surrounding Orion.

It dispersed the haze for a moment to reveal that the hybrid was gone.

The spear paused mid-air for a second, only to suddenly twirl around and rush back towards Grey at a rapid velocity.

The mage remained unfazed as he witnessed his own attack returning toward him.

Simultaneously, Orion was just beginning to manifest before Grey, his claws speeding towards the boy’s head.

That was when the hybrid felt it.

Spinning around, the spear he thought he had successfully avoided suddenly bashed into his back with a clamorous, metallic force, finally chipping part of his obsidian scales off.

’What the—?’

Vanishing from before the man, Grey reappeared safely a short distance away.

"Thunder Lance locks onto whoever I mark as a target. Even if you chose to flee this solar system, it would track you down and still find its mark."

Orion frowned angrily, his tail swinging left and right continuously in his agitation.

Then, with an explosive bang, he materialized before Grey, unleashing a savage swing from the side.

The strike was blazingly fast, forcing the mage to quickly lift Clara in a defensive guard while flooding the blade with every ounce of his available Ki.

Even though the sword was indestructible, he wasn’t about to take any reckless chances here.

Clang—!

The claws collided with Clara with a deafening intensity, forcing the ground beneath their feet to rupture and splinter almost immediately.

Grey was being pushed backward by the sheer momentum of the interception he had just performed, but gritting his teeth, he forced his weight down to remain grounded.

BANG—!

Orion turned his head slightly to the side, only to see a massive greatsword rushing toward his head with lethal speed.

Thinking on his feet, the hybrid quickly lifted his secondary claw to intercept the blade, causing another violent shockwave to blast out in every direction.

Thalos could be seen straining against the hybrid, his teeth grinding continuously as he poured his strength into the strike.

His eyes blazed a brilliant golden hue as he attempted to push the claw away, but to no avail.

The trio was now locked at a complete standstill.

Glancing between Grey and Thalos, the hybrid’s expression shifted as chaos immediately ensued.

It now became a furious two-on-one display of swordsmanship within the ruins of the coliseum.

Grey and Thalos began moving with all the speed their bodies could grant them, their blades moving in perfect coordination to find even the slightest opening on the hybrid’s armored body.

However, with his long, pincer-like claws, Orion was blocking everything thrown his way.

The three combatants moved with blistering velocity; the only thing the onlookers could perceive was the constant, rhythmic clangor of steel as they danced across the battlefield.

With the pace they were maintaining, it seemed inevitable that someone would make a mistake—but Grey and Thalos remained flawlessly in sync.

Swooping in right after the mage had delivered a sharp attack, Thalos unleashed a heavy horizontal slash toward Orion’s abdomen, forcing the hybrid to leap backward.

Kicking off from the cracked earth, Grey landed on Thalos’ massive, stony frame. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Then, with explosive grace, he used the gargoyle’s body as a launch platform, closing the distance between him and the beast before them.

Clara lashed through the air, racing to slice the man’s head off—if such a thing were even possible.

Like a bat out of hell, Orion’s claw deflected the sword with the practiced ease of a century of swordsmanship.

Then, in one fluid movement, he dashed forward, headbutting Grey out of the air and sending him ricocheting off the ground like a skipped stone on water.

Clenching his jaw against the pain, the mage immediately stabbed his sword into the ground, grinding himself to a sudden halt.

Orion prepared to charge forward to finish the job, but unfortunately for the hybrid, Thalos was already in his path as the gargoyle’s sword descended from above in a crushing overhead strike.

Orion was forced to deflect the heavy blow, only for the gargoyle to let go of his hilt entirely.

Thalos rocketed forward, delivering a mountain-shattering punch to Orion’s chest that sent the hybrid sliding backward for just an inch.

It didn’t look like much, but it provided enough of a window for Grey to rejoin the fight with renewed fervor.

Lightning crackled around Clara with a bright, violent cadence.

Slashing the sword through the air, Grey unleashed a crescent wave of electricity that sped toward the hybrid.

Orion remained unfazed as he lifted a claw and shattered the energy, dispersing the attack as if it were nothing at all.

But the strike was a feint.

Salamander had already taken that moment to manifest only two feet away from the hybrid.

Now, a deadly funnel of concentrated flames was rocketing toward Orion at point-blank range.
