Magus Supremacy-Chapter 874: Change in Authority (2)
Chapter 874
"Nope. My younger brother; Mada Stormvale is the new leader of the Waterfall Clan." He said while pointing toward a stupefied Mada.
The gathered crowd were stunned into immediate silence as all eyes drifted between Mada and Gunther in sheer confusion.
Who didn’t know these two? The sons of Orion Stormvale?
Not just that, but they all knew exactly how formidable Gunther really was.
He was a battle-crazed individual who considered administrative duties to be absolute garbage and a colossal waste of time.
Instead, he spent the vast majority of his life on beast worlds, battling powerful creatures alone.
His bloody expeditions sometimes spanned entire months without a break.
He had forged this reputation himself, and it had spread throughout the faction as he would frequently walk into other clans’ territories to clear any high-level portal that dared to open on their lands.
While Mada, on the other hand, was quite the opposite of his brother.
Compared to his older sibling, Mada was significantly weaker, but still no less strong than a high-tier warrior.
But to any sane person, Gunther should have been the undisputed leader of the Waterfall Clan due to his raw prowess.
In the ritual of determining the head of the Aetherian faction, if one wanted to be the leader of a specific clan, outsiders usually had no say in the matter.
Only the elders within the clan could decide who they truly wanted at the helm.
Now, in the case of Gunther and Mada; if the decision were to be made on strength alone, the older brother would have been picked hands down.
And depending on whether he accepted or declined the mantle, he would be the head of the house.
But judging by the fact that Mada was now the declared leader, it seemed that Gunther had flatly rejected the title.
... Obviously, he would.
These political things didn’t suit his temperament, and for him, the role would be nothing but a heavy restriction.
He wouldn’t be able to do whatever he wanted to do because the leader of a clan had so many tedious responsibilities to take care of.
He would be so limited and might not be able to grow any stronger.
Hence, he had pushed the role onto his younger brother instead.
After all, that was what Mada had always secretly wanted, and now, he finally had it.
Well, what could the assembly do? It was none of their business, so they all turned their collective attention back toward Leo.
"We don’t care about whatever happens internally within the clans. All we care to know about is who has been selected as the head of the entire faction," the bald-headed man asked, his voice echoing through the hall.
Leo then stepped aside, and in his place, three distinct figures stepped forward into the light.
Noelle, Mada, and Rivock.
Judging by the fact that these three were the ones who walked forward in such a synchronized manner, it seemed like the new hierarchy was being made crystal clear.
They were now the new leaders of the three major clans.
Kids, no less.
Those seated and those standing were absolutely furious at this development.
In their minds, it should have been them taking those seats.
They wanted to voice out their disdain, to scream their protests, but they found they simply couldn’t.
All because of one specific person; Rivock.
The constant, chilling smile on his face was more than enough to deter them from speaking.
Every single person seated there had witnessed his terrifying strength head-on.
He had cleared through their ranks like a seasoned farmer weeding out his farm.
Truly, Rowen’s blood coursed through his veins.
He was a monster amongst the new generation.
"As the leader of the Waterfall Clan," Mada began, his voice surprisingly steady.
"As the leader of the Aetherborn clan," Noelle said, her gaze sharp and unwavering.
"As the leader of the Iron Fur Clan," Rivock uttered with a cocky, dangerous smile stretching across his lips.
The three direct descendants... the new leaders... glanced at one another for a fleeting moment before nodding in agreement.
Then, in perfect unison, they turned around and pointed directly into the crowd where Grey’s allies stood.
"... We choose Grey Dawn, otherwise known as the Supreme Magus, as the new head of the Aetherian faction."
****
There were a few seconds of absolute silence in the cavernous hall as those within it blinked confusedly at what the kids were proclaiming.
They didn’t even recognize the name Grey Dawn.
Nor could they easily spot him at first, as the new leaders were pointing generally in the direction of the diverse group gathered on the raised platform.
Seeing their collective confusion, everyone on the platform quickly stepped back in a synchronized motion, leaving Grey standing alone with a blank, bewildered look on his face as three fingers remained pointed in his direction.
The orange-haired woman tilted her head for a moment, narrowing her eyes while staring at the specific individual they were highlighting.
An incredulous look appeared on her sharp features before she broke the heavy silence with a loud, mocking cackle.
"For real? That? That is who you people want to lead you?" The woman laughed, her voice resounding across the stone walls.
The direct... uh... leaders of the Aetherian faction turned around to stare at her, deep frowns etching themselves onto their young faces.
"What’s so funny?" Noelle asked, her voice cutting through the laughter with a cold, stoic edge.
"What’s funny is that you bastards chose such a plain dude as the head of this faction!" The bald man had completely lost his composure as he shot to his feet, his chair scraping loudly against the floor.
"... Is this some kind of a joke? Just because you three are the heads of the big three clans doesn’t mean you can just install your friend as the leader of this great faction.
We don’t even know who this fool is in the first place! There are far more worthy warriors in our ranks who deserve this title rather than this poor-looking fool."
"...."
A heavy moment of silence followed in the hall while the other representatives nodded their heads in silent, grumbling agreement with the man’s assessment.
Before the kids could offer a rebuttal, Leo stepped forward, his presence commanding attention.
"The one whom you call a mere kid and a poor thing... is the one who defeated Orion Stormvale."
Pin-drop silence.
Nobody reacted for several passing seconds as the weight of the claim settled over the room like lead.
Then, the orange-haired woman rose slowly, a dark frown clouding her face.
"Are you taking us for fools now? He doesn’t even have a discernable aura or a signature around him, yet you claim he defeated Orion? This is not a game, Leonardo."
Gunther cocked his brows, his expression one of genuine confusion.
"And who’s playing games here?"
The elderly man who was seated remained quiet for a few moments, his steady gaze turning to look in Grey’s direction.
The mage himself just remained frozen, listening to the heated arguments echoing through the hall.
Truly, he wasn’t exuding any aura whatsoever.
Years of honing his control had already allowed him to mask his magical aura and raw power whenever he desired.
That was exactly what he was doing at the moment.
To him, there was really no use in flaunting his strength here.
It wasn’t as if revealing his mana would help; they wouldn’t be able to comprehend the nature of it anyway.
They would just remain fixated on his Ki signature, which was kept incredibly low compared to the powerhouses in the room.
"Fine then," Leo spat, moving away with a frustrated frown on his face.
"How about this? Anyone that has a problem with this arrangement should step forward right now and battle Grey Dawn to the death."
