Magus Supremacy-Chapter 879: Another Invitation?
Chapter 879
"An Issue? What happened?" Grey asked as he stared at a worried Dame, who had begun scanning the perimeter of the room with a restless intensity.
The stage five warrior then proceeded to pace back and forth for a moment, his boots clicking rhythmically against the floorboards, before returning to his previous position.
"Firstly, I’m glad to see that you are okay and fully awake now.
I had worriedly left the faction thinking about when you would wake up, or if you would even wake up at all," Dame began, breathing a heavy sigh of relief while staring directly at the mage.
"Okay?" Grey prompted with a raised, questioning brow.
Dame sighed again and continued his explanation:
"After a week or so, after I saw that you weren’t waking up yet, I decided to return to the Noxarian faction to perhaps sort out some lingering things. I needed to see if I was in deep trouble with my clan after everything that transpired."
Grey nudged the warrior to continue, and he did so with a grim expression.
"... A few days after I arrived—I don’t know if you were briefed on this yet—but the whole of Vayun now knows that Orion Stormvale was defeated, and that he was defeated by you. The Supreme Magus. A ripple, a tilt in the balance of this world has appeared, and soon enough, you could be prone to an attack."
"Yeah? I already know that," Grey replied simply, causing Dame to pause for a second or two before replying:
"Well, your name is now on everybody’s lips, and your reputation has skyrocketed even more within the Noxarian faction. My dad has heard of this and demands your presence immediately."
Grey frowned at the warrior’s blunt words.
"Hm? Why would Borfan seek my presence?"
Dame shook his head quickly.
"I don’t know, and I don’t particularly want to. I had been dodging him for weeks until I got the letter from Alba that you had woken up and have now become the new head of the Aethe... Dawn faction. I’m still in shock about this news even now, but that isn’t the primary issue here."
The warrior licked his dry lips nervously before continuing:
"... The issue is that the Behemoth Clan are now beyond furious. They are ready to wage war against you to take you down and perhaps dismantle this faction entirely.
Plans are being made, and they are currently pressuring my father to join them, knowing that if he joins their cause, it’s really over for you."
Grey stared deep into Dame’s eyes while vividly recalling the moment Borfan had casually eliminated over two hundred men with a single strike while clearing the camp they had stayed in.
He hadn’t just destroyed them; he had executed an attack that made it seem as if they disappeared into a ball of concentrated Ki, which then dropped to the ground and shattered the very earth beneath.
Just one flick of his wrist and he had dealt such a devastating blow.
Having witnessed even a fraction of that warrior’s true power, Dame knew that his warning wasn’t an exaggeration.
"On what grounds does the Behemoth clan want to attack me?" Grey asked, his voice low.
Dame hesitated for a few moments, then replied,
"They have no validly reasonable reasons. They just want to wipe out the faction before your leg strengthens and your rule becomes absolute.
They aren’t about to take risks, and their leader’s official word was that he simply wanted to expand the Noxarian faction’s territory."
Grey nodded along, absorbing the weight of the impending conflict.
"I see. And what did Borfan say to this?"
Dame exhaled a long, weary breath.
"He didn’t say anything definitively about whether they should attack you or not. It’s not like they actually needed his permission in the first place; they just wanted him to join the cause and perhaps lend one of my brothers to the fight. Even if Borfan himself doesn’t join, one of my brothers is enough to help obliterate anybody."
Grey looked deep into Dame’s eyes, wondering if the warrior was merely overhyping his siblings or if this threat was real.
Judging by the grim look on his face, the man seemed dead serious about the power they possessed.
Now, the mage was left wondering how truly formidable Dame’s brothers actually were.
"And why does Borfan demand my presence?"
Dame shook his head again.
"I don’t know. Like I said; I have been evading him for weeks while staying with the Crimson Lotus Clan because I know Pluck must have reported that I fought against him that day and I assumed dad would be angry.
Surprisingly, he didn’t seem to care much. All he said was that it’s my life, and I can do whatever I want with it—even if it includes making enemies of powerful figures capable of folding my spine."
A flash of sadness appeared in Dame’s eyes.
Obviously, those cold words from his father had hurt him massively, but he quickly masked the pain with a hollow smile.
"Anyway, all he cared about was you. Since he knows that I’m close to you, he sent me here to bring you along..."
Dame thought for a few seconds before adding,
"... Oh! He specifically mentioned to bring that gargoyle friend of yours too whenever you are coming."
Now, Grey was beyond baffled.
"Huh? What does he want with Thalos?"
Dame shrugged, looking just as lost.
"I honestly have no idea. But he says the earlier you come, the better it will be for you."
The warrior paused for a few moments as he stared at Grey, who was clearly weighing the risks of the situation.
Then, he added:
"I would advise you to honor his call. I don’t think he wants to harm you, nor do I think this is a trap set to finish you off. I won’t say I know him that well, but this doesn’t seem like his way of uprooting a problem from the source. If he wanted to do that, he would have agreed to the Behemoth Clan’s wishes and attacked this place already, so rest assured."
Grey just let out a quiet, confident chuckle.
"I was never worried. Haha~! With Thalos coming with me and my own strength, I think I’m capable of handling anything he might throw my way. Be it a surprise attack or not."
Dame stared at the mage with an unsure, flickering look on his face.
"Hm."
Grey then waved his hand dismissively.
"We leave tomorrow. So yeah, I accept this invitation. I’m also curious to know why Borfan wants to see me... again."
