Magus Supremacy-Chapter 880: Farewell?
Chapter 880
The next day arrived with Grey, Thalos, and Dame prepared to depart from the Dawn Faction and journey over to the Noxarian Faction in order to meet with Borfan.
Contrary to what Grey had initially anticipated, it didn’t take an immense amount of convincing for Thalos to tag along.
The moment the mage mentioned the invitation to the gargoyle, he was immediately interested and accepted the offer without hesitation.
Strange as it might seem, Grey didn’t really think much of the creature’s quick compliance.
On the side, his reputation had spread across the land overnight.
The leaders from the minor clans had already begun circulating the word of the massacre and the change in leadership.
Leo, Fenrir, and the three direct descendants helped amplify the news even more, ensuring every corner of the region heard the tale.
The word was out: there was a new head of the faction.
The Supreme Magus!
Then, the official name change was also acknowledged in the local news, and soon enough, the information spread like wildfire in just mere hours, causing a massive uproar throughout the world.
A new head. A new identity for the Aetherian Faction.
It was even more crazy when people heard that the new leader was a mere eighteen-year-old kid.
At first, the public didn’t know what the elders of the faction were thinking, but when they heard that it was this same Supreme Magus who had taken down Orion, the confusion switched to awe... panic, and even a deep reverence for his power.
The other factions had remained silent, which furthermore made the world more anxious, because it was clear to many that they were cooking up something.
Something that could shake the foundations of the world.
... Or maybe they just wanted to avoid interference and weren’t even cooking up anything to begin with.
After informing the others where he was headed, Grey opened up a portal, sending the lightning phoenix back to her own world for the time being.
Then, he conjured another gateway which both he, Thalos, and Dame walked into.
Oh... Alba, Killian, and Lance had decided to tag along as well, asking the Supreme Magus to drop them back at their clan’s base along the way.
Which he did.
Making a brief stop there, they grabbed some essential belongings, and then Grey conjured yet another portal that took the primary trio straight to the Demonic Clan’s base.
They didn’t go inside immediately.
Thalos was still maintained in his human disguise as they stared ahead at their destination.
At the base of the gigantic, inverted stone fist that marked the clan’s territory, Borfan could be seen standing tall with his hands crossed firmly across his chest.
No emotion betrayed his inner thoughts as he stared coldly at the trio that had just stepped out of the shimmering portal.
Scanning them one by one, his sharp eyes eventually landed on the disguised Thalos.
A small, knowing grin flashed across his face as he stared at the gargoyle.
"Good to see that you were able to make it, Thalos the great."
Grey lifted a brow in surprise. ’Why is he speaking like they go way back?’
Thalos stared at Borfan for a few silent seconds before slowly shaking his head.
"I now know how he died. He was killed by Orion."
Borfan froze for a moment at those words.
His golden eyes lit up for a fraction of a second before settling back down into a grim stare.
A dark, sad smile rested on his rugged face.
"Ah... I see. Tsk. I should have known," he uttered with a sharp, angry undertone vibrating in his voice.
"If only I knew on time, I would have been the one to tear that betrayer to pieces."
Grey stared between Thalos and Borfan for a few seconds, his mind racing.
With how they were speaking to one another, Grey quickly connected the dots.
’Oh! So this was Armin’s best friend from the Noxarian faction, huh?’
With a simple shrug, Thalos mouthed:
"At least the Supreme Magus took him down."
Borfan tilted his head to stare at the mage for several long seconds without saying a word, as if he was judging the very soul of the youth with his piercing eyes.
Thalos was the one who interrupted the silence, his voice steady despite the weight of the moment.
"So tell me, why were we summoned?"
Borfan looked up, his golden eyes momentarily losing their sharp edge.
"Ah, yeah... it’s just, I felt like today was the day I was to fulfill my friend’s final wish. I had been putting it off for quite some time now.
I could have done it the first day I met him, but I delayed it for no particular reason. I can’t wait any longer, hence I want to get it over with once and for all."
The trio was now utterly baffled by the man’s cryptic words.
What exactly was he saying? What did he intend to do?
"Anyway," Borfan cheered up slightly as he clapped his hands together loudly, the sound echoing off the stone fist above.
"We can’t do anything here. Let’s head over to a more private location."
Walking past them, Borfan began making his way away from the base, but he suddenly paused mid-stride.
"Dame, no need to come along. Before I leave, I have something to tell you," Borfan spoke over his shoulder, having felt his son about to follow them.
"... All I have done, all I have said throughout these years was for your own good. I didn’t want any of my children to be useless.
I was pained by how weak you remained, even when your younger sister surpassed you in raw strength.
But I’m glad that you are finally shedding that weakness of yours by following the mage here.
What I have been unable to get you to do, you achieved on your own by walking with the Supreme Magus.
And I’m also glad you put the vice leader of the Behemoth clan in his place. Hahaha~!" The warrior laughed aloud, a rare spark of genuine pride in his voice as he recalled the report he had received a few days prior.
"Anyway, keep growing and protecting those you care about. Unfortunately, you are unable to inherit my legacy as it is rightfully your brothers’.
They should be returning in two days because I have already told them everything they need to know.
They know about what I’m about to do. Unfortunately, I don’t have much time to explain it all to you; I hope you understand. Take care."
Dame was unable to say anything as he stared at his father’s retreating back.
A sharp, localized pain flared in his chest at the words the man was spouting.
’Wh-Why does this feel like a farewell speech?’
Before he could find his voice to ask, Borfan departed along with Grey and Thalos, leaving Dame standing baffled and alone in the same position.

Thirty minutes later, the trio found themselves on a vast, deserted stretch of land that was completely bare of life or vegetation.
And right there, Borfan stood several yards away from Grey and Thalos.
"It’s time," the warrior exhaled sharply.
A tired, peaceful smile rested on his face while he looked toward the sky as if expecting someone specific to be watching from above.
Looking back down, his expression shifted instantly into a more serious one—a gaze that suddenly sent icy chills running down Grey’s spine.
"Supreme Magus, I—Borfan Grimvale—challenge you to an all-out battle to the death."
