She brought the empty plates to the kitchen and brought out the lotus root pork soup. She served half a bowl to each of them to taste. Everyone nodded with satisfaction after tasting the rich yet refreshing soup.
After serving the appetizers and soup, Chen Jianmin and Dong Li brought out the main dishes. Egg fried rice, squirrel mandarin fish, braised eggplants, lionhead meatballs, and spinach-almond salad.
The fried rice was served in a small bowl, and the dishes were served on small plates. Only the squirrel mandarin fish was served whole.
After they served the dishes, the two of them returned to the kitchen to prepare the desserts.
Lu Jueyu stayed in the living room and told them the ingredients used, how to prepare the dishes, and other options to replace the ingredients if they didn't like them.

When she entered the living room, everyone smelled the scent of the sesame balls and couldn't help but swallow. Even though they were already 80% full, they still had room for dessert.
As she placed the plates on the table, she explained, "Aunt Zhang, we prepared three types of filling for the sesame balls. Lotus paste, sweet black bean paste, and red bean paste. You can try them and see which one suits your taste."
When Mother Zhang saw the number of sesame balls, she hesitated. Even though it was a tasting dish, she knew how valuable the ingredients were. How could she eat three sesame balls after eating so much food before?
Noticing her hesitation, Lu Jueyu smiled and said, "If Aunt Zhang is too full, how about I cut them for you so you can taste half of each?"
Mother Zhang thought for a moment and said, "Jueyu ah, just cut them into four portions, and each of us can try a quarter."
Lu Jueyu understood her concerns and didn't insist. So, she nodded and said, "Okay."
She took the sesame balls back to the kitchen and cut each filling into four portions before bringing them out again.
This time, when she placed the plate on the table, Mother Zhang finally picked up her chopsticks and had a try. The sesame ball was fragrant, sweet, and chewy. The filling was soft and sweet, but not greasy.
Seeing her nodding in satisfaction, Lu Jueyu smiled. She was confident that her son's and Chen Jianmin's cooking was delicious.
After they finished the sesame balls, Lu Jueyu poured a cup of boiled water to cleanse their palate and asked, "Aunt Zhang, which one do you like?"
