Chapter 239: Leon Ainsworth[1]

The body he was in moved again against his wishes, tightly grabbing the hand, before pulling himself forward.

Meanwhile, Harry was still confused. He felt like his mind was playing tricks on him, ones he didn’t like even in the tiniest bit.

’Just what is going on? How am I... here...?’ He thought.

The strangest part about it all was that he wasn’t even ’in’ himself, but within a completely different person.

’Is all of this part... of the ’truth’ the other voice was talking about?’ Harry thought, eventually deciding to simply calm down and watch how all of this would play out.

The two boys kept talking, the major part of their discussion consisting about their life in the academy and their future.

From their interactions, it wasn’t hard for Harry to deduce that they were close friends, who had known each other for years.

It seemed like this kind of situation wasn’t unfamiliar to them, as it had happened quite a few times before now.

"Bye!" Harry shouted, waving goodbye at Leon before driving off in a blue hover car.

Leon simply waved back, walking into his house with a slight smile on his face.

Creak!

Just as he opened the door, a woman with long blonde hair and light brown eyes rushed towards him.

"Leon! Are you okay? Did anything in school today?" She said, turning his head to the side to check for any injuries.

Her eyes immediately caught sight of a slightly red bruise on the side of his nose, causing her to gasp in shock.

"A... bruise...?" She mumbled, slowly rubbing her finger over the wound. "What happened to you? Who hit you?"

"I’m fine mom. Nothing happened." Leon said, shrugging her hands off his shoulders.

"No... you’re not. Just—"

"I’m thirteen now so I’m not a kid anymore. Besides, I said I’m okay, no need to worry." He said, hissing under his breath.

Bam!

Ignoring the woman who still standing behind him, he walked into his room, rudely slamming the door behind him.

"Why... does he have to be so stubborn?" The woman muttered, clasping her hands together in worry.

"Just let him be, you’ll only make him feel worse...." A tall man with short blonde hair and pitch black eyes said, relaxing his back on the sofa.

’He didn’t even greet me... that spoilt brat.’ He thought, clenching his hands into a fist.

He was present in the living room when Leon came in, however, the boy hadn’t even paid him any attention, and simply walked into his room.

Although they currently weren’t on good terms, it didn’t give him the right to be so disrespectful, especially when they were just after what’s best for him.

"B-but... he’s..."

"You worry too much. This was what he chose, even after all our warning and persuasion." The man said, gently rubbing his forehead.

"We’ve tried our best... how he decides to live his life is mainly up to him." He continued, letting out a low sigh.

He could understand her worries, especially given everything that was going on, both with them and their son.

Nonetheless, it was his choice to remain in the academy, even after all they tried to do to help him.

The academy even offered to transfer him to another school, but he turned down the offer, insisting he had no need for that.

Meanwhile...

"Finally..." Leon muttered, lazily flinging his school bag to his bed.

He slowly took off his uniform, walking towards a large mirror situated at the other end of the room.

He let out a low sigh of disappointment as he stared at his reflection in the mirror.

His light blonde hair fell down to the sides of his face, lightly covering his ears.

"Hah..." He muttered, rustling his hand through his hair.

His overall appearance was well below average, and he knew that very well, despite how annoying it was.

His body was lean, and even though his ribs were visible through his chest, he didn’t look too healthy also.

"Weak... too weak." He mumbled, clenching his hands into a tight fist.

It wasn’t that his family were poor or struggling, he had just always looked like this; something which greatly worried his mother.

While his parents weren’t too influential, they were still quite wealthy, at least more than enough to feed him with good food.

Meanwhile, Harry could only stare in shock at the reflection looking back at him.

’That blonde hair, brown eyes... it surely looks like... the ’other voice.’ He thought, the image of the tall blonde haired man he met ’in’ the system resurfacing back to his mind.

Ever since he got ’transported’ into the strange body by the system, he hadn’t gotten a chance to see the face of the body he was inhabiting.

However, now that he finally saw it, he noticed there were a lot of similarities between Leon and the man in the ’white room’.

Leon practically looked like a younger version of the other voice, with the two of them having the same hair and even eye colour.

’A younger version of the other voice...’ He mumbled inwardly, piecing everything back together.

’Going into his past... how is that even possible?’ Harry thought in awe, still reeling from the shock.

With everything that was going on, it was clear he was in the other voice’s past, and for some reason, he was viewing things through his perspective.

Nonetheless, there was still something confusing about all this.

Even though this was supposed to be the ’past’, the way everything looked made it seem like the opposite.

The world and the technology was so advanced, a lot more developed than he could remember, to the point where it seemed like an entirely different universe.

However, Harry knew that wasn’t the case.

The more time spent in the body of Leon, or rather the younger self of the ’other voice’, the more he slowly uncovered his memories.

Some of Leon’s memories slowly flowed into his mind like a gentle stream, and he gradually uncovered the truth about what was going on, along with the kind of life the boy had lived up till now.

His full name was actually Leon Ainsworth, and he had descended from the Ainsworth family; a family quite famous for creating and transporting artifacts around the city.

Although the Ainsworth weren’t the biggest artifacts manufacturing company, they were still known as one of the best out of the few who existed.

Nonetheless, despite the influential family he came from, he was born with the inability to absorb mana, or even create a mana core. ƒreewebɳovel.com

Similarly to Harry, Leon was also born with a shattered mana foundation; a fact which rendered all his dreams to become an elemental mage useless.

In worry that something was wrong with their son, his parents consulted numerous experts and practitioners on mana to check up on his body.

However, even after all the tests ran on him, they couldn’t find anything wrong with his body.

Due to his strange condition, Leon became quite popular around the world, as the news of someone without a mana core foundation spread like wildfire.

The news sparked different responses from people; some claimed he was just unfortunate, while some felt like his existence must be a bad omen for the world.

Due to everything that had happened, his parents tried consoling him, in a bid to give him hope that his dreams weren’t over yet.

Nonetheless, they couldn’t deny reality; that there was no way for him to become an Elementalist, talk less of a mage.

Despite his inability to sense mana, Leon didn’t lose hope, claiming there must be a reason why he couldn’t do so.

He knew he was different, but he wanted to believe it wasn’t in a bad way.

He told his parents about his thoughts, but they simply thought he was being delusional, trying desperately to cling to hope.

However, they didn’t discourage him, unwilling to crush the little hope he had left in him.

Despite not having any affinity, he enrolled into Sky academy, which was one of the biggest magical academies in the world.

While it was an academy filled with students of great talents, along with influential backgrounds, people without affinities were still allowed to attend it.

The only thing they would be restricted from were the practical mana classes, which were exclusively for Elementalists and combat mages.

However, his stay at the academy was anything but peaceful.
