Manaless Mage-Chapter 266: To the you twenty years ago
Chapter 266: To the you twenty years ago
"Make us pay...?" Kronos said, pausing to let the silence hang in the air before bursting into laughter.
"Hahaha! Now that’s funny." He laughed, looking down at Leon with a smirk on his face. fгeewebnovёl.com
"And how exactly are you going to do that?" He asked, raising one of his brows in mock curiosity, his eyes flashing with a cold glint.
Leon tightly clenched his fists to the point where his knuckles turned even paler, his gaze drifting back to the rough earth beneath his feet.
Although he wanted to retort that statement, to shout fire back in rage, the bitter truth gnawed at him.
Kronos was right, heck he couldn’t even find the strength to stand.
He was standing on the precipice of death, his body brutally battered and slowly crumbling.
The white flame within him was barely a flicker, standing on its last legs to keep his heart functioning.
It was slowly regenerating, but the pace was so slow that he could barely even notice it.
Every breath was a struggle, and each heart beat was a painful remainder of how close he was to the end.
Everyone he had fought so hard to protect... his friends, his family were gone now, wiped out from existence by Kronos.
Their faces kept flashing before his eyes, causing his heart to tighten in frustration.
Even if by some miracle, his energy regenerated back to its full power, there was no way he could take on all three of them in his terrible condition.
Vordmont alone had been a tough challenge for him, almost pushing him to the brink of his abilities.
Adding Kronos and Orthon was nothing short of a death sentence, with the odds stacked so high against him.
There was really nothing he could do... and could only wait helplessly for his death.
He couldn’t help but rethink his life choices, feeling that if he had perhaps continued training during those last five years instead of getting lax... he might stand a bigger chance against them.
Though he knew deep down that he couldn’t really blame him for that, after all, the earth was already at peace—the peace they had finally reached after years of bloodshed and war.
Only for these three to suddenly appear, shattering the peace he had painstakingly worked for.
There was no way he would accept sit still and accept such fate, even though he was already nearing his death.
Despite the overwhelming odds, and crushing despair weighing down on his soul, he would still fight with all he had left.
Even if he had no strength left to fight anymore, he would still use every last drop of power he could muster to take his revenge on them!
Leon gnashed his teeth, the metallic taste of blood filling his mouth, while a few trailed down his face.
His body felt like it was on fire, and despite his cold temperature, he still felt strangely warm.
The heat rapidly intensified, up until the point where it became almost unbearable, however, he embraced it, using it to fight back his agony.
He tightly clenched his fists, strongly resisting the pain coursing through his body as he slowly stood back up on his feet.
"Even if you had a problem with me... you could have just solved it with me alone." He muttered, his voice laced with anger.
His legs kept trembling as he forced himself to stand, but he resisted the pain, standing upright on his feet.
"They... didn’t do anything to you... this world didn’t do anything to you. They didn’t deserve to be wiped out just like that." As he spoke, he stared into the eye of Kronos, his energy rapidly stirring within his heart.
Kronos’ smug demeanour suddenly faltered, and his expression twisted into a deep frown. He swiftly pointed his finger at Leon, mumbled something under his breath.
"This has gone on for far too long." He muttered, his tone laced with disdain as he quickly harnessed the mana reserves within his body.
He had already recovered to an extent after fast-forwarding time, and though his mana wasn’t as vast as it normally was, it was still abundant.
Swish!!
A thin green beam suddenly shot out of his fingertip, tearing through the air with deadly precision.
Twish!
The beam pierced through Leon’s chest within an instant, striking directly at his heart.
The impact sent a slight shudder through his body, yet... something about that attack was very off.
"Huh...?" Leon muttered, his voice low in shock as his gaze dropped to his chest.
He had expected searing pain, the kind that would ruthlessly wrack through his body, wreaking havoc before finally ending his life.
But contrary to his expectations, there was nothing. No pain, no sensation... except from a weird numbness where the beam struck.
His hand trembled slightly as he raised it to his chest, fingers brushing against the skin he was attacked.
However, expect from the blood that was already there from his previous injuries, there was nothing.
No fresh blood, no signs of a burn... not even the faintest trace that he had just been hit.
His confusion further deepened as he tried to understand what just happened.
He felt the mana flow from the attack, as well as the thick time energy which flowed into his heart, how come nothing happened?!
His heart continued beating, albeit weakly, like nothing ever happened.
Even after probing his heart with his energy, he still didn’t find anything wrong... it was all just the way it had been before.
A part of him wanted to believe it was just a fluke, that perhaps his own energy had somehow protected him and absorbed the attack, just as it did many years ago with the smoke-faced creature.
However, that didn’t seem likely, especially since his energy was already severely weakened.
Besides, Kronos was just too powerful to make such a silly mistake.
This only made him more wary, and his head snapped back to Kronos, with confusion and unease evident on his face.
"W-what... did you do to me?" He asked, still uncertain as his hand continued to roam his chest, as if searching for an answer.
However, Kronos didn’t reply immediately, only flashing a smile, one filled with false concern.
He slowly stepped backwards, savouring the look of confusion and anger on Leon’s face.
"Don’t worry, you’ll find out... manaless mage." He muttered, his voice dripping with a sinister edge.
The unease in Leon’s heart only grew as he Kronos’ walked away from him, the celestial’s cryptic words hanging in his mind like a death sentence.
"Damn you..." He muttered, gnashing his teeth in frustration.
Just then, he felt a weird numbing sensation on his left hand, causing his eyes to narrow in confusion.
He quickly looked at it, only to find out that the tips of his fingers were already disintegrating into tiny green particles.
"W-what... how...?" He muttered, staring at his hand in disbelief.
The disintegration soon started on his other hand, and that one also started breaking into green specks.
He didn’t see any of those green sparks caused by his previous clash with Kronos, so how come his existence was getting evaporated also?!
"You’re probably wondering how this is possible." Kronos muttered, flashing a sinister smirk at Leon.
"You shouldn’t even be standing here in the first place." He continued, scoffing under his breath.
Vordmont’s eyes narrowed slightly at his words, however, he didn’t say anything.
He didn’t understand a thing about what was going on, neither did he understand during the powerful clash between Leon and Kronos, so he didn’t stress himself too much about it.
Orthon was simply staring with his signature nonchalant expression, almost as if he didn’t take part in everything that happened.
Kronos turned his gaze back to Leon, his expression dripping with scorn. "I already wiped out all your family, how do you think you’re still standing here?"
Leon’s gaze trembled at his words, and his lips parted softly, but no words came out.
Kronos was right... since his family had indeed been wiped out of existence, it shouldn’t be possible for him to still be alive.
After all, there was no way he would exist if his parents didn’t exist, as he would have never been born.
After giving it some thought, he soon came to a realisation. The only reason he was still standing here was due to his energy protecting him from eradication by the world.
There were a few times when his energy had protected him before... like how it absorbed that smoked face creature back then, and his de-buff spells weren’t effective on him.
However, this was on a much grander scale compared to any of that.
’So that’s why... it was regenerating so slowly...’ He gnashed his teeth in frustration at that realisation, feeling disappointed in himself.
At this point, his two arms had already completely vanished into thin air, leaving only his torso and lower limbs, which were also starting to disintegrate.
"You’re so stubborn you know?" Kronos mumbled, a strange glint flashing through his eyes.
"To really wipe you, I didn’t send that attack towards ’you’... I sent it towards yourself twenty years ago, pretty amazing right?" Kronos said, his lips slowly curling into a sinister smirk.
"Y-you... coward!!" Leon shouted, lunging at the celestial in anger.
However, before he could even get close to him, the disintegration rapidly spread, and his body vanished into thin air.
Kronos’ gaze lingered on where he previously stood, his brows furrowing into a deep frown.
’I won this time... but for some reason, I don’t feel too good about it.’ He thought
