Chapter 292: Next Generation

Meanwhile...

Trent exhaled, his grip on the sink trembling as he stared at the reflection looking back at him.

His hair was ruffled, falling loose down his forehead, and his eyes had thick bags under them, signs that he hadn’t been sleeping properly for a while.

His body had also gotten more toned compared to before, with his arms bulling up slightly and his abs becoming more defined.

During the past four months, all he had done was train like a mad man, ignoring all the negative effects on his body and mind.

He barely even got any sleep, only pouring all his soul into training his element and developing his physique.

The sleepless night and strenuous exercises he put himself through over and over again did affect him negatively, however, he didn’t care about that.

He kept panting, slowly tightening his grip on the sink as he stared at his reflection.

[Never forget... he’s your enemy. You need to get stronger, so you can defeat him.]

A soft whisper sounded in his head, fanning the flames of anger within his heart as it rung through his soul.

The voice was very familiar to Trent, yet at the same time unfamiliar to him.

"He’s my enemy... I need to defeat him." He mumbled, gnashing his teeth in frustration.

Veins slowly popped around his forehead, and his face reddened in anger.

[Defeat him... bring him down... defeat him... he’s your enemy...]

The whispers in his mind slowly got louder, to the point where he felt like his mind would split open.

"Ugh..." He grunted, gritting his teeth as he tightly clutched his head.

[I can help you... just let me...]

The voice continued, not caring for the headache wracking through the Elementalist’s head.

[Let me... let me... let me...]

"Aghh... shut up." Trent mumbled, albeit with a lot of difficulty.

The throbbing headache splitting his mind apart made it very hard to focus on speaking properly.

But suddenly, the annoying whispers stopped, and everything returned back to normal.

"Haa..." Trent exhaled, panting heavily as he placed a hand over his chest.

’What a pain... like I told you I need anyone’s help to beat Harry...’ He thought, his face twisting into an annoyed frown.

He wiped off the drops of sweat dripping down his forehead, trying to hide the obvious signs of exhaustion on his body.

’I’ve gotten stronger... I’ve fully closed down the gap between us!’ He thought, his chest heaving softly.

After a few minutes of pulling himself back together, he finally left the confines of his room, stepping into the facility hallway.

A few minutes later...

Harry’s eyes narrowed into a slight frown, his gaze drifting between the people standing around him.

Out of the twenty five students who qualified for the world tournament, only five remained, among which included; Nathan, Susan, Trent, Clara, and lastly, Harry.

All the top students from each academy throughout the world were allowed to participate in the tournament, but due to the large number of Elementalists, it was only natural that having all of them participate would only bring chaos.

So in order to reduce this number, and make the tournament go smoothly, a series of preliminary competitions were organised among the academies.

It was done within each zones around the world, leaving only one academy from each zone to participate in the event.

There were five continents in the world; northern, southern, eastern, western, and central continent.

Within each continents were different boundaries called ’zones’.

The number of zones within the continents depended on the size and nature, however, there was an average of fifty zones per continent.

Within each zones were numerous cities, each one housing at least one magical academy.

Vernil was the city Harry was born; a small city located within Zone Trasville, a western zone in the southern continent, which was also known as the smallest out of the five continents.

The southern continent had a total of thirty zones, meaning that within it alone, there were countless academies participating in the world tournament.

During the last four months, the preliminary part of the competition took place and the other twenty Elementalists were eliminated from the tournament.

Only the five of them remained, chosen to represent their zone and academy in the tournament.

"You’ve done well to get this far!" A loud voice suddenly reverberated across the room, jolting Harry out of his thoughts.

His gaze shifted to the tall, brown skinned man standing before him, whose muscles seemed like they would rip out of his chest.

His hair was black, and his black eyes shone with a sharp, yet cold glint.

He wasn’t actually an instructor from the academy, instead, he was one the AMO assigned to them after they successfully passed the preliminary competition.

He was a powerful stage four combat mage, who retired from adventuring in order to help with training the next generation.

During the last few months, he had been training them on their physical strength, focusing especially on Nathan, who was a combat mage like himself.

There were also many other instructors allocated to them to help with training, but it seemed like he was the one in charge of sending them off to the tournament.

"But don’t think that’s the end of it! There’s still a long way to go... opponents to defeat!" He shouted, clenching his fists in determination.

As he spoke, his gaze briefly drifted to Harry and Nathan, and a strange glint flashed through his eyes.

Everything that happened was completely out of his expectations, in fact, no one expected it.

Their academy passing the preliminaries was actually quite shocking to most, because it was known as one of the weakest academies within the zone.

Usually, one of the powerful northern zone academies would qualify, while Vane would be left with nothing, only going back to their city with shame.

However, they were able to qualify this time, much to everyone’s surprise, and the main reason for that was Harry.

Nathan on the other hand, was able to leave an impression on him due to his talent as a combat mage.

Combat mages like him were very rare, and if given enough time, he might even be able to break through to the sixth mana core stage, which was seen as an unattainable height for combat mages.

There were also Susan and Trent, who both possessed insane elemental abilities.

However, their powers still paled greatly in comparison to Harry, who could cast spells as easy as breathing.

’If these are the next generations of mages... then the future of the world might just be in safe hands.’ The man thought, his lips curling into a slight smile.
