Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle'-Chapter 367: Closing in on the Truth
Chapter 367: Closing in on the Truth
No matter how much Logan gave Angelica, a life-saving debt was still a life-saving debt.
As long as Logan was alive, Angelica would have endless opportunities to use that debt to manipulate him. And when it came to truly repaying a life-saving favor, the only real equivalent was a life for a life.
Logan seemed to read her thoughts and didn’t deny it.
"Actually, I already repaid that debt—four years ago."
Four years ago... Selina was taken aback.
"Angelica saved my life, and not long after, I saved hers. One day, four years ago, she showed up covered in blood and asked me to take her somewhere."
Logan nodded slightly. "Wouldn’t you say that repaid the debt?"
Selina nodded slowly, still stunned. It did... but for some reason, hearing Logan talk about it filled her with a strange sense of familiarity.
Suddenly, a strange thought flashed through her mind.
"Logan, if the person who saved you four years ago was me, wouldn’t that be nice?"
Then Angelica wouldn’t be able to hold it over his head. People wouldn’t be using that so-called "debt" to emotionally blackmail Logan.
Logan lowered his eyes gently.
Yes. If only the person back then had been Mrs. Reid.
...
Logan had a dream.
He was fully aware it was a dream, drifting through nothingness.
After a while, he realized—this was the place where Angelica had saved him, four years ago in the dead of winter.
He saw himself collapsed on the ground. Back then, Amelia had sent people to kill him. Jaxon and Jack weren’t with him. He was at the end of the line.
But Logan knew—in just two hours, a girl would come up the mountain and save him.
In the dream, the two hours passed in a flash. Logan’s vision shifted. He saw the girl approaching, rushing to his side and giving him CPR. "Why is someone passed out here?"
Her voice was exactly what he remembered hearing four years ago. It was her.
At the time, he’d been poisoned and blind. He couldn’t see her face. So in the dream, her features were still blurry.
Then the dream shifted again, and Logan’s point of view changed.
He was back in the bed, just like before, hearing the girl cry.
"What’s wrong with you... Why can’t I save you? But Second Brother isn’t in City H, what do I do..."
"There’s no cell signal, no one can find me. How am I supposed to get you off this mountain?"
Logan struggled to lift a hand, wanting to comfort the girl and say it was okay. That he had returned to this moment from four years in the future, and the version of him lying here would survive.
So please... don’t cry anymore.
Your tears... break my heart.
But he couldn’t speak. No words came out.
Logan struggled to open his eyes, forcing himself to look up.
And then, around the girl’s neck... he saw a long scar.
...!
Logan jolted awake.
Morning light flooded through the window. Selina wasn’t beside him.
He raised a hand to cover his eyes.
He had just dreamt... that Mrs. Reid was the one who saved him four years ago. He saw the scar on her neck while he was struggling.
Was it just a dream from all the thinking he’d been doing? Or...
Logan’s heartbeat sped up. What if it was real? What if Selina really had been his savior?
They had spent half a month together in the snow-covered mountains. They had made that promise—leaving roses in the tenth-floor window.
Would he have made that kind of promise with Angelica?
A strong instinct surged in him. Logan jumped out of bed and looked around for Selina. "Miller Butler, where’s Selina?"
"Mrs. Reid said there’s a school event today. She left early this morning."
Logan felt a sudden pang of unease. Without thinking, he dialed Selina’s number.
"Where are you right now?"
"At school."
"...Okay. Come home early."
"Uh, okay? That was weird."
Logan hung up, forcing down the dizziness as his expression darkened.
"Jaxon, bring James here."
...
Selina hung up, confused.
What was with Logan this morning?
"Selina, what are you spacing out for? The event’s starting!"
"I’m coming."
"I heard the event today is sponsored by Morris Group. Someone from the Morris Family might show up."
Someone glanced at Selina.
"Wouldn’t that be awkward?"
"They even have the nerve to show their faces? Don’t worry, Selina. It definitely won’t be Angelica. That girl’s reputation is ruined—everyone wants a piece of her. She probably doesn’t even dare leave her house."
Selina frowned. When did this event get tied to the Morris Family?
Oh well—she was just helping out for a bit. The odds of running into them were low.
...
Meanwhile, thirty minutes later, James arrived at Sapphire Valley Villa.
Nervously, he stepped into the villa, spotting Logan sitting on the couch, slowly swirling a glass of red wine.
Before James could process anything, Logan signaled Jack to pour a glass for him too. James relaxed a little.
Logan gave a half-smile.
"I have a few questions about Angelica, Mr. Clark. I’d appreciate your insight."
James’s eyes lit up. Was Logan finally done with Selina? Had he realized how great Angelica was?
"Ask me anything! I’ve watched Angelica grow up—she’s a good kid. This is the first time she’s ever fallen so hard for someone. Mr. Reid—"
Clink.
The crisp sound of a glass hitting the table cut him off.
Logan had just set his wine glass down—an ordinary gesture, yet it sent a chill down James’s spine.
"Mr. Clark, do you think I have that much time to waste listening to Angelica’s biography?"
A bad feeling crept into James’s gut.
He suddenly realized how quiet the villa was.
No maids. No butler. Just Jaxon and Jack standing silently behind Logan.
James’s body trembled.
"Mr. Reid, what’s going on here?"
"There are a few unresolved questions about what happened four years ago," Logan said flatly.
"Here’s the first one: Angelica entered the entertainment industry at fifteen. Four years ago, right before New Year, should’ve been one of her busiest seasons. So why did she suddenly go to the eastern outskirts of City H by herself—and just happen to rescue me?"
James thought it was a dumb question. Angelica went to the outskirts to deal with that nuisance Selina, of course. He was about to make something up—
But Logan spoke again.
He casually played with something black in his hand.
"Think carefully before you answer, Mr. Clark. Otherwise..."
Otherwise what?
James looked up and immediately screamed, falling off his chair.
Logan was holding a gun—aimed right at him!
"M-Mr. Reid... Angelica... Angelica, she—she was..."
Logan narrowed his eyes.
"Given how much you and Katie doted on Angelica, why would you ever let her wander off alone to some remote, uninhabited place?"
