Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle'-Chapter 368: Under Intense Interrogation
Chapter 368: Under Intense Interrogation
James blurted out instinctively, "Angelica went there for a vacation..."
Logan cut in mildly, "The eastern outskirts of City H have always been a barren wasteland. Never developed for tourism. Whether it was four years ago or now, there’s nothing scenic about that place."
James realized immediately he’d said the wrong thing. He started shaking.
No. Angelica had worked too hard to replace Selina as Logan’s so-called savior—he couldn’t let the truth come out now.
"Actually... actually it was a mistake. Angelica was misled by her manager. The manager took her out there! Later Angelica begged us not to make it public out of loyalty for years of working together..."
"So what you’re saying is, Angelica was in the outskirts because of her manager?"
James nodded frantically, "Yes—yes, that’s it!"
Logan interrupted smoothly, "Mr. Clark, perhaps even you don’t realize—you unconsciously twirl your fingers when you lie."
James froze in place, throat tightening.
Logan casually loaded a bullet into the chamber.
"Second question. Does Mr. Clark know who Joe was really looking for when he set out to find his biological daughter?"
James trembled all over, face stiffening. "It—it was Angelica, who else could it be?"
"Looks like Mr. Clark won’t give up until he hits a dead end." Logan gave a soft laugh. "Joe’s wife was named Victoria. You mean to say you had no idea?"
James’s eyes widened in fear. Logan... found out?!
"Or let me put it another way," Logan said, enunciating clearly, "Did the Clark Family deliberately conceal the truth from Joe—for Angelica’s sake?"
James stared at the black muzzle, his body going limp in terror. What should he do?!
Jack spoke up, "Mr. Clark, I suggest you start talking. You stepped foot into Sapphire Valley Villa—getting out again won’t be easy. You’re smart enough to get what I mean."
He meant—if James didn’t give Logan a satisfying answer, he might not make it out alive?!
James suddenly recalled a rumor—that there was a prison beneath the villa, four floors underground. Once you went in, you never came out...
"Seems Mr. Clark is determined to take Angelica’s secrets to the grave. A devoted father indeed."
Logan blew on the gun barrel. "Don’t worry, Mr. Clark. This time next year, I’ll be sure to light incense in your memory—"
"NO! Please, no!"
With a loud thud, James dropped to his knees and scrambled to Logan’s feet in a panic.
"No! It wasn’t like that! Angelica isn’t Victoria’s daughter—Joe got the wrong person! It was Katie! Katie told Angelica to pretend to be the Morris Family heiress—I didn’t know anything! I swear!"
Logan sneered, "Then tell me, Mr. Clark—do you know who the real Morris heiress is?"
James felt something hard press against his temple. He trembled uncontrollably.
"Yes, I know—it’s Selina. Selina is Joe’s real daughter... But the Morris Family already publicly acknowledged Angelica! Grandma Morris doesn’t like Selina... I didn’t let Selina go back to protect her—"
Logan placed his finger on the trigger. fгeewebnovёl.com
"Tell. The. Truth."
"That IS the truth—it’s the truth—no, wait, wait!"
James shrieked in terror. A foul stench suddenly filled the room—he’d wet himself in fear, scared senseless by a man much younger than himself.
But faced with that gun, cowardly and clinging to life, he couldn’t hide anything anymore.
"It was... No—Katie. Katie and Angelica knew Selina was the real Morris heiress years ago! They’ve been planning to steal her identity since ten years ago!"
"All the documents Joe saw were edited by Angelica. She had me forge records. She promised me that once she officially became the Morris heiress, she’d help Clark Family get a partnership..."
Logan had heard enough. He lowered the gun. James collapsed, limp with fear.
Logan took a step back in disgust. "Take him away. Interrogate him."
Jack nodded. "Yes, sir."
Two hours later, Jack returned from the fourth basement level.
"Sir, we’ve asked everything there is to ask. James admitted that he’s had private correspondence with Grandma Morris. Letting Angelica impersonate Mrs. Reid—that was partly Grandma Morris’s idea."
Logan nodded calmly. "What about four years ago?"
Jack frowned. "As for four years ago, James couldn’t clearly explain why Angelica was in the eastern outskirts of City H, but he insisted that the person who saved you was Angelica. I don’t think he’s lying—or at least, in his understanding, it really was Angelica."
Could it be that the whole life-saving narrative wasn’t a scheme by the Clark Family? Or was James duped by Angelica too?
"Treat Mr. Clark well over the next few days," Logan said casually. "Selina’s not back yet?"
"She should still be at the university. I’ll go pick her up."
A strange unease crept over Logan, like something was about to go wrong. He called Selina’s phone—
No answer.
...
At City A University.
As the event wrapped up, a few students ran over saying someone from Morris Group had arrived.
But Selina didn’t expect it to be Angelica.
"Selina, my dear sister. Surprised to see me?"
Selina looked expressionless. "Not really. I figured you had no shame."
"You—" Angelica gritted her teeth, then smiled smugly.
"Even after everything, Morris Group still chose to hand me this project. Who cares about the online hate? In the end, Selina, I won."
Selina looked at her like she’d just swallowed a bug.
What the hell? She came all this way just to brag about how great Morris Family was treating her?
"That’s odd," Selina said. "The Morris Group board members didn’t seem like complete idiots. They really handed the project to you? Oh... I get it. They must really hate the company. Can’t wait to watch it burn."
"You—!" Angelica choked in fury, jaw clenched at the mention of those shareholders.
Just two hours ago, during the Morris Group board meeting, the shareholders had torn into her from top to bottom.
They said Morris Group wasn’t her personal playground.
What a joke! She was the Morris heiress. Morris Group was hers!
They even claimed Morris Group had been losing money ever since she was brought back—and every loss traced back to her.
Ridiculous! It wasn’t because of her. Morris Group was just poorly run. She was their savior!
Worst of all... someone even said—in front of Joe—that things would’ve been better if Selina had been the real daughter of the Morris family.
Angelica panicked and played the victim, crying as she ran off.
She ran all the way to City A University.
She needed a perfect exit plan.
And in that plan—Selina had to die.
Selina noticed the sinister expression on Angelica’s face and frowned slightly, alert.
"Selina, heading back already? Why don’t we talk some more?"
Selina turned to leave. "Talking to you might cost me years of my life."
So weird. Did Angelica really come all the way here... just to gloat?
