Chapter 429: The Super Straight Guy

Without even thinking, Selina darted under the covers.

"No!"

Logan: "..."

He let out a low chuckle.

"So in your eyes, I’m just some kind of animal?"

Selina’s eyes brimmed with tears. How thick-skinned was he to ask that so casually? Did he seriously not know he acted like a beast?

Logan spoke slowly.

"I want you to be my executive assistant."

Selina blinked, curious when he shifted to business.

"Hmm?"

"You’ll keep managing the design department," he said with a smile in his eyes. "But Mrs. Reid, you’ll need to move your office upstairs."

"It won’t be too busy, but I need you."

Selina understood instantly.

Logan had plenty of secretaries and assistants. He didn’t need people—he needed her close by.

"There’s someone planted on my team." Logan’s eyes went cold.

Selina’s face turned serious. "Who?"

"I don’t know."

Selina froze. He didn’t know?

Logan not knowing was shocking. His assistants and secretaries had all been with him for at least five years—some even ten. If there was a traitor among them...

Logan’s gaze narrowed.

The Country Y trip hadn’t gone well.

Their offer had leaked in advance. Jack blamed the slip on the secretarial team, and they admitted fault. But Logan wasn’t convinced.

His gut told him someone had been planted close to him.

He had no idea who it was, or which faction they worked for.

For the first time since taking over Reid Group, Logan was on the back foot.

Selina asked, intrigued, "But how do you know me coming in will expose them?"

Logan’s mouth curved in a small smile.

"Because you’ll make them nervous."

Once they got nervous, they’d slip up. They’d show their hand.

Why had she suddenly been reassigned to the chairman’s office?

Did Logan already suspect something and want her there to keep watch?

Selina got it. "Okay. I’ll go with you this afternoon."

"Mrs. Reid." Logan suddenly called after her, bringing up something unrelated.

"After I got Scott’s shares, I now hold 17% of CY Club. If you want them, I’ll give them to you."

Selina paused.

Logan lowered his gaze and gently patted her hair.

"Your secrets are yours to keep. But if you want it, it’s yours."

Selina’s lips pressed tight for a moment, then relaxed.

"It’s not really some big secret. The previous owner of CY Club was my grandfather... the man who adopted me. Later he said he was giving it back to its ’original owner,’ so I stopped going there."

Logan’s eyes narrowed sharply.

"Previous owner? Original owner?"

"I don’t know who the original owner was. But that club..."

Selina looked puzzled.

"Riley said you gave it to Hunter?"

Logan’s expression turned grim.

—Yes. That was the rumor.

Everyone thought Logan had bought CY Club, then gifted it to Hunter when Hunter was at rock bottom, giving him the capital and confidence to rebuild.

But only Logan and Hunter knew the truth. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Logan hadn’t given him anything.

CY Club was Hunter’s own.

It was his biological parents’ inheritance.

Hunter had been adopted by the Nelson Family. They’d given him nothing. When they kicked him out, he survived thanks to CY Club. But in the Nelsons’ eyes, he was just a worthless foster child—how could he own something that big?

Hunter respected the Nelson Family and wanted to repay them, but he wasn’t about to hand over his parents’ legacy.

He knew that if he admitted it was his inheritance, the Nelsons would have seized it instantly.

So Hunter came up with a plan.

He let everyone think Logan had given it to him.

The Nelson couple were wary of Logan and didn’t dare touch CY Club.

Which meant—when Selina talked about the "original owner"...

Could she mean Hunter?

Logan didn’t say anything directly. He planned to ask Hunter about it.

If Hunter had known Selina’s grandfather...

When Selina came downstairs, Miller the butler already had lunch ready.

She felt a little embarrassed—she’d slept until noon.

"Wow... Miller, lunch looks amazing!"

Jack was sitting there bleary-eyed. They’d gotten back too late last night, so he and Jaxon had just crashed at Sapphire Valley Villa.

Selina looked at the exhausted Jack, startled.

"You guys... what happened?"

Jack suddenly looked like he’d found someone to confide in.

"Ma’am! We’ve been through hell!"

Selina blinked. "...Huh?"

Jack finally had someone to complain to and immediately launched in, sounding deeply aggrieved.

"We were supposed to be in Country Y for seven days. But because the bid leaked, we worked around the clock for two days straight fixing it. Just when we thought we could finally breathe, the boss suddenly decides we’re flying home two days early—so it was back to pulling all-nighters!"

"Tell me, what the hell was he thinking?! What’s so different between five days and seven?!"

"If I ever find out who made him change his mind and come back early, I’ll wring their neck just to vent my rage!"

Selina: "..."

Jaxon glanced at Selina, then at his brother. He was pretty sure Jack was a lost cause.

Selina cleared her throat.

"Uh... well, get some rest these next few days."

Jack slumped, exhausted.

"Yeah, I’m not going in today. Oh—Ma’am, I heard you’re going to be his assistant? Tsk. My brother and I aren’t going in either. I don’t want those people making things hard for you."

Selina blinked innocently.

"I’m Mrs. Reid. Who’s going to make things hard for me?"

Jack grimaced.

"Those secretaries and assistants might not have been with him as long as me, but it’s still been eight or ten years. They don’t care about your title when they’re working. They’ll—"

He frowned.

"Just... be careful. Don’t let them bully you."

Jaxon let out a tiny sigh of relief when he heard Jack change the subject.

Seriously, what an idiot. Everyone else might not know why the boss rushed home early, but as Logan’s personal assistant, Jack really had no clue?

Who else would it be for—Riley? Please.

Selina nodded. "It’s fine. They won’t be able to push me around."

Jack shook his head fiercely. "Don’t be so sure!" He suddenly remembered something and grit his teeth, face contorting.

"Watch out for that Stone guy in the assistant team. He’s a sneaky bastard! In Country Y this time..."

He trailed off, realizing he didn’t have solid proof yet. But he couldn’t hold it in. In the end, he just decided to rant about Logan.

"Ma’am, you don’t even know! These past five days I’ve been worked like a dog. I mean, is the boss even human? Is he?!"

Selina’s gaze drifted past him and landed on a tall figure. "...Uh, well..."

It was obvious poor overworked Jack was really on a roll, venting all his rage about his heartless boss.

But—seriously—when you’re trash-talking your boss like that, maybe check if he’s standing right there listening...
