Chapter 430: I Don’t Believe It

Selina figured she’d better save him while she could, so she cut Jack off.

"Right, right—I get it. Calm down. Eat first."

Jack looked like he was about to cry with rage.

"You don’t get it! Everything was planned perfectly, but someone wanted him back early! Said they missed him or whatever! So he squeezed us dry to rush home! Ma’am, tell me—who was it? WHO?!"

"If I ever find out, I’ll teach her a lesson she won’t forget!"

Jaxon’s mouth twitched.

Logan curved his lips slightly and sauntered lazily down the stairs.

Selina cleared her throat twice, shooting Jaxon a desperate look to get Jack out of there.

Jack was oblivious.

"What’s with you two, coughing all of a sudden? You sick or something?"

Jaxon tried to smooth things over, hinting gently: "Jack... didn’t the boss also give you a full week off? And triple bonus pay? At least—"

"Bonus? You think I care about that pathetic bonus?" Jack was fuming. He didn’t get why Mr. Reid kept that Stone guy around. He snorted.

"Boss is so stubborn. You can’t even talk to him about it."

Jack was convinced Stone was the leak. The guy had been with the company eight years, sure—but he could have sold them out. There was no way the bid leaked just like that unless someone did it on purpose. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

But...

Before he could finish ranting, a smooth, low voice chimed in beside him: "Not just stubborn, right? Boss is also autocratic, doesn’t listen to anyone?"

Jack was shocked there was someone bold enough to agree with him—and they said it so perfectly! He let out a satisfied grunt.

"Exactly! He even defended that Stone guy in front of everyone. Total case of favoring the treacherous over the loyal—"

Jack turned mid-rant, all worked up.

And met Logan’s eyes.

Jack: "..."

He glanced at Jaxon, then at Selina, and his knees went weak.

"..."

God, I shouldn’t have left the house today.

Logan drawled slowly.

"Favoring the treacherous over the loyal? Didn’t know you had such a way with words."

Jack swallowed hard.

"Boss, sir, you misunderstood. That’s not what I meant. I wasn’t finished talking. I meant that most bosses would be fooled by Stone, and they’d favor the treacherous over the loyal. But not you! You’ve got sharp eyes—you’d see right through Stone’s little games..."

Selina thought privately that one big reason Jack had lasted this long around Logan was his complete lack of shame.

After lunch, Logan drove Selina to the Reid Group building.

When they stopped at a red light, he said evenly: "Miller told me the paternity test results came back?"

Selina hadn’t expected him to bring it up. Her face hardened instantly.

"Yeah. Biological father and daughter."

Logan didn’t look over.

"I don’t believe it."

Selina rested her chin in her hand and let out a cold laugh.

"Neither do I. But the report says there’s a blood relationship. My second brother wouldn’t lie to me."

Aiden was her second brother, and the Foster Family Hospital wouldn’t have covered for Joe.

So the DNA test was real.

Logan suddenly thought about how many times over the years he’d done paternity tests with Amelia.

Every single one said he was her biological son.

But how was that possible?

Everything—logic, emotion, memory—told him he was Anna’s child.

How could a paternity test fool everyone?

"Maybe," Logan said evenly, "you should talk to Kyle."

Selina let out a cold snort.

"Talk to him about what?"

Logan’s voice was calm.

"You and Joe are father and daughter. Kyle is Joe’s son. But what if you and Joe aren’t actually related?"

Selina fell silent.

That was... unsettling.

If she and Kyle were both Joe’s children, then whether they shared the same mother or not, they’d still be blood relatives.

But if she had no blood relation to Kyle while they were both supposedly Joe’s kids... then...

Logan ignored her shock.

"Maybe you should give it a try."

"Who knows what you’ll find."

Selina blinked.

The car pulled into the parking garage. Logan suddenly reached out and took her wrist.

"Do the test. Figure out your connection to the Morris family. But no matter what you find out, Selina—don’t let it break you."

Selina froze.

Logan gently pulled her into a hug.

"Don’t worry about it. You’ve got me."

His words didn’t even connect logically, but Selina understood them perfectly.

Her heart softened.

"...Okay."

They walked into the company together.

The HR manager had been waiting nearby and hurried over to hand Selina her new ID.

Then he asked carefully, "Mr. Reid, Miss Nelson is also reporting to HR today. Should I have someone take her—"

Selina’s head snapped up.

"Riley’s coming here?"

Logan waved the manager off, then nodded.

"Hunter wants her to get some work experience."

Selina rolled her eyes.

Logan suddenly chuckled.

"Do you know how many floors the Reid Group building has?"

Selina answered honestly.

"It’s too tall. I never counted."

"Sixty-five floors," Logan said. "Above the sixtieth floor is the core of the entire company. That’s where you’ll work. Riley’s going to be an executive manager, but she’ll be on a floor below fifty. You won’t run into her."

Selina: "..."

She gave a stiff "oh."

Logan had a few files to deal with. Selina glanced around.

"I’m going to the design department to say goodbye."

When she finished in the design department, she took the elevator up to the sixtieth floor—

And the moment the doors opened, she came face-to-face with the very woman Logan claimed she wouldn’t see.

Riley.

Twenty minutes earlier.

Riley had arrived at Reid Group HQ. Technically her office was on the forty-eighth floor as an executive manager.

But she’d walked right in and taken the elevator straight to the sixtieth floor—the company’s restricted core area—dragging her cousin Nancy along.

No one dared stop them.

One junior secretary saw them and started to approach to tell unauthorized people to leave, but her team lead yanked her back.

"Are you crazy? That’s Riley. The new executive manager in PR."

The junior frowned.

"Even so, the PR exec manager shouldn’t just—"

"Shh. Mr. Reid’s got deep ties with the Nelson family. He’s even closer with Hunter. Nelson sent his sister here for ’training.’ She might be called a manager, but don’t even think about bossing her around, understand?"

The junior nodded.

"Nelson? Isn’t she the one rumored to be engaged to Mr. Reid for some business deal? She’s trying to get close to him?"

The team lead shook his head.

"Maybe the Nelson family wants that arrangement. But it’s one-sided. Look."

The junior blinked.

"The sixtieth floor is full. Why add another special assistant... Selina? Didn’t she run the design department? She has time for this?"

"That’s Mrs. Reid, for real. Mr. Reid himself moved her up here. So you tell me—how much of a chance does the Nelson family really have for that ’business marriage’?"

Riley heard every word. She was so furious she was practically grinding her teeth.

And right on cue, the elevator doors opened.

And there was Selina.

Selina arched an eyebrow, taking in the dead-silent sixtieth floor. She let out a small laugh.

"I’m here to report in. Here’s my paperwork."

The team lead accepted it quickly, not daring to be rude.

"Miss Clark, welcome. You can officially start this afternoon."

Selina nodded and was about to head to her desk—When a sharp, mocking voice cut through the silence.

"Selina, what are you doing here?"

The entire office went quiet.

Selina turned back in surprise. The speaker was Nancy.

Selina gave her a meaningful look and said evenly: "You’re here, so why shouldn’t I be?"
