Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 199: Cannot be done
"Are you saying she just woke up?" Cyrus inquired nonchalantly.
"Do you think I am lying?" River asked, scoffing.
"Perhaps," Cyrus hissed, shifting his gaze to Sage and Katherine, who were sitting on the bed, excitedly speaking to each other.
Cyrus and River stood outside beside the open door, both hands in their pockets. They felt it was important to share themselves because Katherine and Sage had clearly missed each other’s company, and Cyrus could feel Sage’s overwhelming excitement, which brought a small smile to his lips.
"The fire mage is..."
"Have you heard from your uncle?" Cyrus cut in straight.
"No." River responded with a suspicious look at Cyrus, asking, "Why?"
"Videnia has been attacked." Cyrus responded by chewing his lower lip and turning his gaze to River, who appeared slightly stunned.
"The barrier..."
"It is still impenetrable."
"That’s a relief." River let out a sigh. "After all, only you can go in there," he added, narrowing his eyes at Cyrus, who was now staring at him dully.
"I am taking Sage there." Cyrus was revealed.
"That will be your biggest mistake, Cyrus." River snarled at him.
"There will be no more secrets between us." Cyrus smiled, a smile that touched his dull eyes.
"What the hell happened?" River couldn’t believe what he was hearing and seeing from Cyrus. What happened to emotionless Draco?
"She has the potential to be terrifying. Plus, I don’t want to be punished by her." Cyrus sighed and pushed the strands of hair on his face backwards, but they felt back on his face anyway.
"Are you madly in love with the being you’re about to kill?" River asked, surprised.
"Isn’t it ridiculous?" Cyrus chuckled as he asked rhetorically.
"It is a big mistake, Cyrus." River voiced his concern.
"Oh? You have a soft spot for me in my dark state. I feel so loved." Cyrus said sarcastically while mockingly smiling.
River squinted deeply. "You are not going to listen." Then he sighed and moved his gaze into the room. "Just go and resurrect Katherine’s memories; I want her back." He spoke quietly, his gaze fixed on Katherine, who was laughing and smiling as she spoke with Sage.
....
"Come on, your face was so red. I almost mistook you for a tomato." Katherine burst out laughing.
"Don’t tease me, Katherine," Sage said, her lips pursed.
"I have no choice. That scene will never be forgotten in my mind." Katherine laughed. "Are you telling me you wanted him to kiss you on the lips?" She leaned in closer to Sage, whose face was turning slightly red.
"I expected him to go above and beyond." Sage sighed and rested her head on Katherine’s shoulder as Katherine burst out laughing.
"I had a feeling!" Sage’s head was pushed off her shoulder as she exclaimed and pinched her cheek.
Sage burst out laughing. "You have no idea."
Their eyes twinkled with the same level of excitement as they stared at each other, but their smiles began to fade from their faces like dust blown by the wind.
"Sage," Katherine called softly.
"Katherine." Sage let out a sigh and lowered her head.
"I came here to look for River, but mostly because the name Leimpia sounded familiar. When I first arrived here, I had a strange desire to go to the mountains, but then I met River, who promised to take me there. We went to a bakery that looked familiar, and River revealed that he and I had been there previously. I don’t recall anything from the moment I walked out of the bakery. I’m not sure how I got here." Katherine explained in a panicked tone, her eyes welling up.
Sage slowly raised her head, gazing into those tear-filled crystal blue eyes. Her heart clenched as pain, fear, and panic filled those eyes.
Those Statkus mages were so desperate for her fire core that they decided to use her friend as a pawn. It infuriated her, and all she wanted to do was go to that portal and destroy it.
But was it really that simple?
"You were manipulated by the Statkus mages, and Leimpia sounded familiar because you had been here... You summoned the portal of the land of the sea of blood and placed the mages there.." Sage spoke slowly, hoping Katherine would understand.
"The land of the blood sea?" Katherine inquired, completely perplexed.
"It’s a terrifying place for mages, like hell." Sage replied with a fake smile, then sighed deeply.
"But how exactly...? Statkus mages..."
"There are elder mages in there, and it turns out that they wield great power in the land of the sea of blood. They also had control over me."
Katherine’s pupils dilated. "Is this all for your fire core? And why on earth did I put our people in such a repulsive situation?!" Katherine’s head was starting to hurt from the confusion. "I summoned a portal to such a heinous sacred location? How did I become so powerful?"
Sage burst out laughing. "You also built a barrier that sent me flying off a mountain."
"What?!" Katherine exclaimed in surprise, then groaned and rubbed her brow. "They had complete control over both of us... Do you mean you went to the mountain as well?" She inquired.
"I don’t remember much, but our people are now out of there." Slowly, Sage responded.
"Did the portal get destroyed?!" Katherine inquired, both eagerly and fearfully.
"I did not destroy it."
"I annihilated it." Cyrus spoke up, and the ladies’ gazes were drawn to Cyrus and River, who were now standing beside the bed.
"How? And, honestly, why have I never heard of the land of the sea of blood?" Katherine questioned sternly.
"Because you young mages have been deceived since the day you were born." Cyrus responded directly.
"What?!" Katherine was taken aback and asked.
Cyrus’ lips twitched, and Katherine sighed sadly and lowered her head, recalling all what Sage had told her.
"Our generation of mages has been so thoroughly deceived that we don’t even know who we are." She raised her gaze to Sage, who was staring at her with concern and holding her hand.
"Don’t worry, we will bring your memories back." Sage told her with full assurance and Katherine nodded with a faint smile as she moved her gaze to River, who was staring at her with full concern.
"I can’t." Cyrus abruptly stated.
All eyes were drawn to him in surprise, and River and Sage both inquired.
"WHAT?!"
Cyrus, his face expressionless, inhaled deeply and revealed, "I am not capable of breaking a fire mage’s spell. It has and can never be done."
