Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 224: Not meant to mix
Cyrus had returned to the room and gently placed Sage on the bed, noticing how weak she was from the pain she had felt earlier.
Sage regained her strength after he left the room and cleaned herself up in the bathing room before changing into a comfortable ankle-length white dress.
When she decided to lie back on the bed, she felt Cyrus’s anger rising above what it was, and became concerned as the temperature dropped sharply.
She was about to stand up when she heard a knock on the door, which immediately opened to reveal Katherine, who rushed to her happily and hugged her tightly.
"What were you?" She inquired, her hug tightened, and Sage smiled despite being distracted by Cyrus’ rage.
"It is a long story." Sage murmured, and Katherine yanked away from the hug.
"There is an ice god here." Sage nodded slowly as Katherine informed her.
"I know." She sighed. "We seem to be dealing with deities rather than dragons." She stated that she sat on her bed, tapping her side, asking Katherine wordlessly, to take a seat next to her, which she did.
"Isn’t Cyrus immortal because he is half a god?" Sage’s eyes widened as Katherine inquired. "I am certain he is immortal, which means that those who wish to kill him will fail."
"Cyrus died once, Katherine," Sage said, looking at Katherine with interest.
"Yes, but what if his death simply reawakened his immortality?" Sage nodded when Katherine asked.
"It is possible..." She paused thoughtfully before telling Katherine everything Anghel had told her, and Katherine froze.
"If the statkus mages are linked to the ice gods in some way, that means they are also linked to us, the mages!" Sage grimaced as Katherine exclaimed.
Her thoughts returned to what Ioas had told her, and her lips trembled as those words escaped her lips. "Don’t give it to any of them."
Katherine gave her a puzzled look. "What’s wrong?"
Sage muttered once more and swallowed hard. "Don’t give it to any of them."
"Sage," Katherine exclaimed, still perplexed.
"I... my head is all over the place, Katherine! I believe I understand why the statkus mages want my fire core." Sage revealed herself and stood up, raking her fingers through her hair. She was working hard to keep her emotions in check and her mind from going crazy.
"Everything will be fine, Sage." Katherine stood up and patted Sage’s shoulder, but Sage only laughed.
"We shouldn’t fool ourselves, Katherine; nothing, absolutely nothing, will be fine." Her eyes were a fiery red. There was no time for mopping, sitting, to watch whatever fate the universe had in store for her.
"I know. And I am pretty sure I need to find those books I hid before losing my memories." Katherine mumbled and rubbed her brow.
Sage sighed deeply in guilt as her heart ached slightly. She needed to figure out how to resurrect Katherine’s memories.
"I will find a way to bring your memories back, Katherine, but first I have to find Cyrus." Sage told her as she could still feel Cyrus’ rage rising, but this time it was mixed with fear, which he was attempting to suppress.
She dashed to the door, opened it, and started running as fast as she could down the hall and stairs until she reached the entrance to the round table room. She was about to walk in when she overheard Cyrus and Anghel talking about.
When she heard Anghel say, "How do you think your wife will react now that the Statkus mages and ice gods have formed an alliance to take her fire core, the only thing that can kill you?" Then he laughed. "But you don’t want it to kill you; you want it for something else... something even the demon doesn’t know." she froze, her fiery eyes widened, her eyes filled with tears that threatened to spill.
Cyrus next words made her heart clench. "If they get that piece of mother’s shattered soul, they’ll destroy the soul containment I kept in the ancient mansion, and Antica will be destroyed." He then sighed in frustration. "They don’t just want to kill me; they want to destroy Antica and erase all trace of the ice dragon’s existence."
She gulped. Hard. And, speechless, she took a slow step into the room to find the chief warriors, Ashton, River, and Reagan staring at her in shock, while Cyrus and Anghel were backing her and too angry to notice her presence.
Cyrus’ rage, fear, and confusion were all palpable to her, but his fear and confusion vanished abruptly, leaving only a trace of his rage.
"Didn’t you hear? Not just me and my wife, but Antica as a whole, is in danger."
She shook her head and scoffed. It was all bigger than she imagined. Much larger.
"Indeed." She sighed, lowered her head, and turned away but Cyrus appeared in front of her.
"Sage.." He sounded concerned and appeared agitated, as if he had been caught stealing.
"Do not.." She paused and turned to face him. "Do not look at me that way."
"But I..."
"Shhhh." She pressed her finger against his lips to silence him, then turned her gaze away from his seemingly pleading gaze. "Do not speak as if you have done something wrong."
"Then why are you looking away from me?" Cyrus spoke even with her finger on his lips, and Sage shook her head without looking at him.
She didn’t know what to feel, but she was certain she felt like a sacrifice or something. Was her life force that important? That destructive? The only thing that could kill her husband and bring an end to the ice dragons? She wanted to scream.
Cyrus let out a groan of annoyance, grabbed her wrist, and they both vanished from the round table room, arriving on top of the mansion’s roof.
Sage was engulfed in cold, but she didn’t shiver or seem surprised.
Cyrus stared at her and let go of her wrist, waiting for her to look at him and say something to him because he couldn’t read her mind, which meant she wasn’t even thinking about him. But he could tell she was regretting so many things and trying to process everything she had heard.
"Look at me, Sage." He whispered.
"No."
"Sage."
"I said no!" Sage screamed and pushed him away in rage, slipping and falling backwards off the roof in the process.
Cyrus’ heart skipped a beat and he jumped after her, wrapped his arms around her, and just as her back was about to touch the ground, his powerful wings bursted out and flapped powerfully, lifting them up and to the sky.
Sage had no fear of falling but her eyes were wide with awe as she and Cyrus flew into the grey clouds.
They were in the clouds, surrounded by clouds that appeared angry.
She put her hands on his shoulders and felt his chest rise and fall in relief.
"You are driving me insane!" exclaimed Cyrus.
"Is this why you are holding me back? Because the more powerful I become, the more useful my fire core becomes?" Sage asked slowly, and her gaze eventually fell on his face.
Cyrus sighed, his gaze fixed on her fiery eyes. It was almost as if he was staring at a calm hell about to erupt in full force.
"Do you ever wonder why I can’t break a fire mage’s spell?" Sage blinked at him, waiting for an answer from Cyrus because she had no idea what he was asking. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
"Because fire and ice aren’t supposed to mix. Either fire melts the ice or ice completely engulfs the fire." He mumbled, his voice as heavy as his heart.
"We are stronger than that Cyrus, I feel your fear every time no matter how hard you try to suppress it," Sage said with a faint smile. "Fire melts ice to form water, and if ice engulfs fire, it can also form something extraordinary. At the end, we will be able to create something powerful and unimaginable. We shouldn’t give up on each other; if we trust, believe, and love each other, we can overcome this." She whispered and placed her hand on his cheek, her smile brightening, a smile that reached her eyes.
"But, you..."
"It is difficult to take in, but I can do it." She cut his words with a giggle and blushed as he planted a soft heart-fluttering kiss on her brow.
When he saw how bright her smile was, he drew back and smiled. It warmed his frozen heart even more, and he couldn’t help but return a smile that brought out his dimples.
"Let’s go save the mages." Sage’s smile faded as he abruptly stated.
"What?" Her brows furrowed.
"Let’s just go." He chuckled and carried her comfortably in a bridal style, while she wrapped her arms around his neck.
Cyrus’ now calm emotions were mirrored by the white clouds and the bitterly cold weather.
