Married To The Last Ice Dragon-Chapter 243: Sudden merge
River rushed after Cyrus to the courtyard, grabbing hold of his cloak and stopping him in his tracks.
"What do you think you’re doing, trying to escape? Your wife is pregnant and desperate to save you, haven’t you realized that?" He asked angrily.
"I’m beyond saving!" Cyrus snarled, his eyes flashing from black to blue as he fought to maintain control.
He ground his teeth and leaned back against the wall, his breathing ragged.
River freed the cloak and stood tall, confronting Cyrus. "What’s your plan, then? To give in to your demon and destroy everything that matters? You need to save yourself, too!"
Cyrus quivered, clutching his chest as he struggled to draw breath. "I can’t bear the thought of her seeing me like this, so broken."
River sighed. "Is there really no way to avoid this fate?"
"He could merge all his souls," Ashton suddenly appeared, his voice flat but his eyes betraying concern.
"You think I’m not trying to do that?!" Cyrus bellowed, glaring at the demon. "My mother told me her brother has already reached Videnia. He met Sage. The ice gods are coming, and I need all the strength I can get!"
"And you think that strength comes from your wife’s fire core?" River pressed on. "Cyrus, she’s pregnant, and I fear that relying on her core will only bring harm to both her and the child. I may not fully understand your struggles, but I know that there must be another way to overcome this."
Cyrus’s teeth ground together, his head jerking to the side as he battled to contain his demon soul. His eyes squeezed shut, he strained to hold on to his shield, feeling his demon soul rage against it.
"I... Can’t do this!" Cyrus groaned, gasping for air.
Ashton and River watched in terror, their eyes wide with fear as they struggled to find a way to save him.
But before they could act, Cyrus’s eyes snapped open, transformed into thick black orbs filled with demonic rage. A cold smile spread across his face.
"Her fire core is nothing but a faint ember, a useless spark. She is insignificant."
"What?!" River’s eyes widened in shock, his fists clenched in preparation for a potential attack. He took a cautious step back, while Ashton’s brow furrowed in confusion.
"Do you mean her fire core is weak?"
"She’s useless to me, and she will be eliminated!" 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Cyrus choked, dropping to his knees. He closed his eyes, breathing heavily. "Don’t you dare!" And he opened his eyes, they were burning in their ice blue form.
Suddenly, a bright light enveloped his body, transforming him into a radiant silhouette.
"Step back!" Ashton shouted, quickly retreating and urging River to do the same.
They sought cover behind the trees, watching with wide eyes as the glow intensified and blazed brighter.
"What is he trying to do?!" River asked, highly confused.
"Cyrus’s original soul is still intact, and he’s attempting to merge it with his dark state." Ashton replied slowly, watching in awe.
River couldn’t believe his ears. "Cyrus is still alive? How is that possible?"
Ashton swallowed hard. "I... I don’t have an explanation."
As the light reached an unbearable intensity, Snowflake and the demon panthers emerged, surrounding Cyrus in an aura of pure brilliance.
River instinctively shut his eyes, while Ashton continued to stare, his concern evident. "What is happening?"
"Cyrus!" Sage voice echoed, filled with fear.
Sage burst onto the scene, utterly unprepared for the intense light that assaulted her eyes. She raised her hands to shield them, her heart racing with a fear that wasn’t her own, her body heavy with a pain that wasn’t her own.
Kion, Reagan, and the treacherous four followed close behind, all equally blinded by the light.
"Your Majesty, I don’t think you should go closer." Reagan caught her by her wrist, stopping her in her tracks.
"No.. no he is in pain." Sage jerked her arm away from him and began running towards the light.
Seeing her, Ashton’s eyes grew wide. "Sage don’t!" He was about to leave his hiding a place but suddenly, a familiar dragon appeared, snatching her up and lifting her into the sky.
Stunned, everyone lifted their attention to the sky.
The dragon lowered Sage to the roof and transformed into Stefan, who collapsed to his knees.
Ashton exhaled with relief.
"Stefan?!" Sage was taken by surprise. She dashed up to him and hugged him tightly, breaking down in tears. "You are okay!"
Stefan returned her embrace, breathing deeply in relief. "You are okay."
Sage pulled away from the hug and helped him to his feet, a bright smile on her face. "I met Mother. I know how to rouse Father from his slumber!"
Stefan acknowledged her with a smile. "I am proud of you."
All of a sudden, Cyrus let out a piercing scream of pain, and Sage immediately vomited a large chunk of blood.
Stefan’s eyes widened. "Sage?"
She clutched her stomach, losing her balance. Tears streamed down her cheeks as the combination of hers and Cyrus’ pain created a harsh mixture in her heart.
Stefan snatched her up into his arms, searching her face with concern. "You are okay. You are okay."
Sage forced a smile. "Please take me to Cyrus."
Stefan looked down at Ashton, who shook his head in disapproval. He returned his attention to Sage. "I can’t."
She shook her head. "Please. Please just take me to him."
’Stay there, Sage. Give me a few seconds, please. Hold on.’ Cyrus’ voice suddenly erupted in her head.
Her body tensed up. ’What?! What are you doing! You are in so much pain!’
’I am sorry, I am so sorry. I had no idea it would hurt this much.’ Cyrus apologized, and she felt her heart melt from the familiar calm of his voice.
’Cyrus? ’Normal Cyrus?’ she asked, tears streaming down her cheek from her closed eyes.
’I am merging both souls. I need you to hold on.’
’But how is this possible?’
’I am not sure either. I thought that was the end of it in Videnia, but it turns out that a small essence of my soul remained. I have been trying to merge with my dark state for days now. I am finally succeeding, but I did not expect my actions to harm you,’ he explained, his voice heavy with guilt and pain.
’I can handle it. Go on.’ Sage whispered. ’Do it.’
And the last thing she heard was Cyrus’s loud scream, followed by a strong surge of pain that knocked her out cold.
