Marry the Demon Sect Girl with No Bride Price-Chapter 64: Husband and Wife Both Reach the Fourth-Layer
The next day.
Morning.
Qin Gengyun woke up early. Every night for the past ten days, he had practiced for two additional two-hour sessions after dual cultivation, which consumed a lot of his energy, so he usually woke up later than Qiu Zhihe each morning.
But today was different. He wanted to be the first to share the good news with Qiu Zhihe.
Qin Gengyun got up, dressed, and sat by the bed. After a moment, Qiu Zhihe slowly turned over with slightly blurry eyes as if she had just woken up from a dream.
Her round little face still carried a trace of confusion. After a moment, she became alert, holding the quilt as she sat up, raising a hand to smooth her slightly messy hair, her expression returning to its usual coolness:
"What are you doing?"
Qin Gengyun chuckled, "Taoist Friend Qiu, I’ve reached the fourth layer of Qi cultivation!" 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
He looked forward to seeing the joy on Qiu Zhihe’s face, perhaps a few encouraging words, maybe even a couple of "Husband, you’re amazing!" or "Keep it up, husband!" That would feel even better.
However, after a moment, he heard Qiu Zhihe say plainly:
"I need to get dressed."
"Uh?"
Qin Gengyun blinked, then nodded and walked into the kitchen.
Outside, the sound of clothes rustling was heard. Unable to resist, Qin Gengyun called out to the other room:
"Taoist Friend Qiu, I’m at the fourth layer of Qi cultivation!"
There was still no reaction from outside. After a while, Qiu Zhihe’s faint voice said:
"Alright."
Qin Gengyun walked out of the kitchen, and his eyes brightened at the sight of Qiu Zhihe wearing the red embroidered velvet jacket he had bought for her, looking quite festive.
It was then Qin Gengyun realized how terribly tacky the red embroidered velvet jacket actually was.
It was only because Qiu Zhihe’s appearance and figure were so striking that she could pull it off; if it were an ordinary female cultivator, she would have looked like a village lass in it.
No wonder Qiu Zhihe had sneered at it the day he bought it back.
Moreover, the embroidery on the jacket was bizarre, with two twin dragons spitting pearls embroidered on either side of the chest, amidst white petals with a touch of red in the centers.
These two spots of red happened to be at the peak of each side, making one’s heart itch.
Seeing where Qin Gengyun’s gaze was fixed, Qiu Zhihe’s face turned cold:
"What are you looking at?"
"Nothing, Taoist Friend Qiu, you look beautiful."
Qin Gengyun quickly averted his gaze and asked with a smile, "I’ve reached the fourth layer of Qi cultivation, aren’t you happy?"
Qiu Zhihe looked at him strangely, "It’s just the Qi cultivation stage, what’s there to be happy about?"
"Uh..."
Qin Gengyun was taken aback, and after a long pause, he said:
"Taoist Friend Qiu’s reminder is noted. I must reach the fifth layer of Qi cultivation within half a year, or else Taoist Friend Mo will be in danger."
"Today, I’m not going to buy groceries; you’ll have to cook yourself."
Qiu Zhihe sat on the bed, arms crossed, speaking coldly.
Qin Gengyun walked to the bedside and sat next to her.
Qiu Zhihe suddenly turned to look at him, her eyes frosty:
"Go away."
Instead of obediently getting up as before, Qin Gengyun spoke earnestly to Qiu Zhihe:
"Taoist Friend Qiu, I have something I want to discuss with you regarding Taoist Friend Mo."
Qiu Zhihe’s delicate brows furrowed, her eyes frosty, her long hair moving as if blown by an unseen wind: "What do you want to say?"
Qin Gengyun said, "Taoist Friend Mo has been pressured by Zhou Kun, and she’s likely working even harder these days to earn spirit stones and improve her cultivation. Taoist Friend Mo has helped me a lot in the past. Without her help, I wouldn’t have been able to settle in Yunling Town half a year ago."
"So, I want to help her."
Qin Gengyun genuinely wanted to help Mo Xiaolan, not only out of friendship but also because Mo Xiaolan had assisted him a lot.
But he needed to be honest with his wife, to get her support. If he went behind Qiu Zhihe’s back, it would damage their trust and taint Taoist Friend Mo’s reputation.
"It’s only right to repay kindness."
Hearing Qin Gengyun’s words, Qiu Zhihe’s gaze softened slightly, but her voice remained cold:
"How do you plan to help?"
Qin Gengyun said, "I’ve refined seventy high-grade first grade pills over the past few days. We’ll keep twenty for our own needs, and give fifty to Taoist Friend Mo to sell so she can earn more spirit stones, but..."
Qin Gengyun paused, then continued:
"If we sell these pills at the Pill Talisman Tower, we could fetch a higher price. If we give them to Taoist Friend Mo, we’ll earn fewer spirit stones. It’s a matter of our household’s income, so I wanted to know your opinion."
Qiu Zhihe was momentarily stunned, her small cherry lips slightly parted, murmuring:
"Household..."
"Yes, we are already husband and wife, naturally, we are a family."
Qin Gengyun smiled, "Taoist Friend Qiu, if you disagree, I’ll think of other ways to help Taoist Friend Mo. But don’t worry, I will seek your consent no matter how I help her; I won’t deceive you."
"Alright."
Qiu Zhihe said, then quickly got up and walked into the kitchen.
Seeing her agree, Qin Gengyun breathed a slight sigh of relief, then asked:
"Taoist Friend Qiu, what are you doing?"
"Cooking porridge." came the answer from the kitchen.
Qin Gengyun curiously said, "Didn’t you say you weren’t cooking today?"
"I said I wasn’t making breakfast! Aren’t you leaving yet?"
The cold voice came from the kitchen, Qin Gengyun chuckled, got up, and said:
"Then I’ll go out and buy breakfast. What do you want to eat?"
"Nothing!"
Qin Gengyun shook his head with a smile, went out to the alley to buy two bowls of beef noodles, and called out to the kitchen upon returning:
"Taoist Friend Qiu, I’ve got some noodles. Hurry and come out, or they’ll get soggy."
Moments later, Qiu Zhihe finally came out of the kitchen, her face cold, biting her lip, walking in small steps, her movements causing mountains and valleys to shimmer as she angrily sat down at the table.
She looked like a cold and alluring young wife sulking with her husband.
Seeing Qin Gengyun smiling at her, Qiu Zhihe got annoyed: "Don’t look!"
"Alright, alright, I won’t look."
Qin Gengyun immediately agreed, no longer staring at her, allowing Qiu Zhihe to focus on her noodles.
After they finished breakfast, Qin Gengyun took the fifty pills and said to Qiu Zhihe:
"Taoist Friend Qiu, I’m going out to discuss the sale of pills with Taoist Friend Mo. I’ll be back soon."
Qiu Zhihe glanced at him, "Did you bring your talisman paper?"
Qin Gengyun smiled and patted his chest, "Don’t worry, it’s the one you gave me. I always carry it with me."
Qiu Zhihe no longer looked at him, sitting on the bed with her eyes closed.
Qin Gengyun smiled, opened the door, and left.
After he left, a red light suddenly surged from Qiu Zhihe who was on the bed, which then turned into a white light.
Her long hair also changed color, alternating between bright red and frosty white, ending in half a fiery red, half a snowy white.
The room bizarrely brimmed with heat and cold coexistence, making the space around Qiu Zhihe somewhat distorted.
For a long time, Qiu Zhihe opened her eyes.
"Fourth layer of Qi cultivation."
...
Qin Gengyun hadn’t been out long when he was stopped before finding Mo Xiaolan.
It was Yang Fengshan with two subordinates from the Spirit Pill Workshop, blocking Qin Gengyun outside Narrow Rain Lane, pointing at him and shouting:
"Qin Gengyun, we finally found you! You didn’t expect it, did you? What you’ve done has been exposed!"
Qin Gengyun frowned slightly. Had the Pavilion Master finally discovered the matter of the two hundred bags of Clear Wind Powder?
Yang Fengshan, however, sneered coldly:
"Taoist Friend Qin, you feigned resignation but secretly stole the bronze furnace to sell it. This act was truly despicable. The Pavilion Master ordered me to bring you back to the Spirit Pill Workshop. Since your cultivation is low, don’t resist to avoid suffering."
