The Enhanced Doctor-Chapter 767 Happy to Meet
These past few days, the constant flurry of surgeries had indeed put a considerable amount of stress on Liu Banxia. Physically, he was alright; he'd just pop an energy potion when it got too much. But mentally, he was beyond exhausted.
Not only did he have to perform surgeries, but he also had to guide the interns. The strain of this dual responsibility was immense, far more than a slight increase in difficulty.
As for the competition for the Associate Director position, he had lost all interest. Now, his mind was more occupied with the underground criminal group.
Later, they brought in two more girls who had also been targeted by that criminal group. According to Captain Shen, similar cases had also been found in other high schools.
So these people were despicable, and their actions were abhorrent. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call them utterly devoid of conscience.
However, the progress of this case wasn't entirely up to him. He was just a doctor, after all; the specifics of the case were in Captain Shen's hands.
Perhaps Heaven was giving him a break. Today, the number of emergency patients was relatively low. After helping with some debridement and suturing, the day passed by uneventfully.
"Alright! See you guys the day after tomorrow. I'm off!"
When it was time to leave, Liu Banxia, who had changed his clothes, shouted loudly.
Everyone waved at him, knowing his heart had already flown home.
Just as everyone thought, he had to obey traffic rules; otherwise, he would have floored the accelerator.
"I'm home!"
Upon arriving home, he practically rushed in.
"Oh, you're back. No need to yell," Qiaoqiao, who had been about to run over, settled back down and said lightly.
"Haha, I missed you, honey! Where is everyone else?" Liu Banxia moved closer to Qiaoqiao and pressed his ear to her belly.
"Oh, get away from me. There's no movement yet. Go look at Tang Dou's puppies," Qiaoqiao pushed him away.
"No, I want to listen. Come on, give me a hug. I missed you so much at work, I was lost without you," Liu Banxia coaxed, moving closer again.
It was a joyful reunion. Even though it had only been about ten days, Liu Banxia truly missed her terribly.
"That's more like it. But I'm warning you, don't you dare forget the baby's mom once the baby arrives," Qiaoqiao said with a serious warning.
"Of course! Tang Dou, come on down!" Liu Banxia shouted upstairs.
Within a minute, Tang Dou ran down and squeezed onto the sofa.
"Such a little traitor. I treat you so well, yet you're still closest to him," Qiaoqiao said, ruffling Tang Dou's fur.
However, Tang Dou ignored this, hopped off the sofa, and gently nipped at Liu Banxia's trouser leg, trying to pull him away.
"Go on, go on. Only you get this special treatment. The most I get is to play with her puppies twice a day," Qiaoqiao said, waving her hand dismissively.
Liu Banxia was helpless. Sometimes Tang Dou could be quite persistent. Plus, he felt honored—this meant she considered him the most trustworthy person.
Arriving at Tang Dou's room upstairs, her four little puppies were still sound asleep. They looked completely different from when they were first born; now, each one was adorably chubby.
Liu Banxia reached out to touch them. They seemed to have gotten used to Qiaoqiao's fussing, so they barely reacted.
"When will their eyes open?" Qiaoqiao followed him upstairs.
"Usually around ten days, so it's almost time. Just two or three days left," Liu Banxia said.
"You can't help them; they need to open their eyes on their own. Are we heading to Brother Qiu's place now? We shouldn't keep everyone waiting too long."
"Okay, you bring Tang Dou. She's worried about her puppies," Qiaoqiao said.
"Everyone says they've never seen such a protective dog. Their own dogs just focus on feeding the pups after giving birth, not like Tang Dou, who's always watching over hers."
"It's because Tang Dou was raised by you. You're a good mother, and so is Tang Dou," Liu Banxia said.
Qiaoqiao's spirits instantly soared; she looked incredibly pleased.
"Tang Dou, let's go get a good meal. We'll eat at home tomorrow," Liu Banxia said, petting Tang Dou's head.
Tang Dou looked at him, then at her sleeping puppies, before scampering downstairs.
"Honestly, why does she listen to you so well?" Qiaoqiao grumbled.
"Haha, it's because I'm not home often, so she misses me a bit," Liu Banxia said with a laugh.
"Haven't you noticed? Both Tang Dou and Tiggie can count. If one of us is missing when we go out together, they'll look for that person. They're smart dogs."
Qiaoqiao seemed to accept Liu Banxia's explanation and didn't press the issue further.
When they got downstairs, Tang Dou was already sitting by the door with her leash in her mouth.
What a good dog. Who wouldn't adore a Tang Dou like this?
They strolled over to the Qius' home, where Liu Banxia's parents and Qiao Xuezhi were already there.
"Finally, you're back! Taking tomorrow off, right? You have no idea, Qiaoqiao is practically counting the days on her fingers waiting for you," Wang Jingxian teased.
"Jingxian, that's not true! I don't miss him at all," Qiaoqiao quickly declared.
"I've been quite busy lately. In about another week, I should be able to step down as Chief Resident. Then I'll have more time and can come home right after work," Liu Banxia said.
"How long were you two planning on keeping this from us? This is tremendous news, why didn't you tell us?" Qiao Xuezhi spoke up. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
"Comrade Old Qiao, it's not that Banxia didn't want to tell you. I was just worried you'd leave Xiaoyu home alone!" Qiaoqiao shot back.
That one sentence completely deflated Comrade Old Qiao.
What else could he say? His daughter was thinking of her husband and her younger brother. As her father, he'd just have to endure this little grievance.
"Dad, when is Auntie Tong coming? I'm really looking forward to her braised fish," Liu Banxia said.
"It'll be a few more days, until Xiaoyu finishes his final exams. Then he'll come here for tutoring. Ah, his heart has long since flown here," Qiao Xuezhi said.
"Mom, Dad, what about you two? Can you stay here for a bit longer?" Liu Banxia turned his attention towards his parents.
"Your mom can stay a few more days, but I can't. The pharmacy at home needs to stay open; otherwise, it's not so easy for people to buy medicine. There really aren't as many places selling human medicine as there are selling veterinary medicine these days," Liu Qingdong said.
"If it weren't for seeing you and having a few drinks with our in-laws and Old Qiu, I'd have rushed home already. City life is good, but I'm just used to being at home."
"What 'used to'? You just enjoy hearing people praise our son," Peng Xiuzhi said.
"So what? Our son is so capable now, shouldn't I let them praise him a bit?" Liu Qingdong said nonchalantly.
"By the way, Banxia, didn't you say you filmed a new TV show? Why haven't we seen it yet?" Qiu Huaili asked.
"It'll be a few more days. They still need to do post-production and then schedule it for broadcast. Besides, that program is mainly to promote our Second Hospital and the Emergency Center; I'm barely in it," Liu Banxia said with a smile.
"Our Chief Director initially arranged it to boost our Second Hospital's reputation and help recruit some doctors. But since it's a major network, they came quite late. After filming, there's still post-production and scheduling."
"So, have the doctor recruitments mostly wrapped up? Then you won't be so tired, right?" Peng Xiuzhi asked with concern.
All she cared about now was whether Liu Banxia was tired. Fame and recognition didn't matter to her.
"I'm not as tired now, and I'm about to step down as Chief Resident, so I'll have more time," Liu Banxia said.
"In a few more days, once the results are released, I'll get my Attending Physician contract. Then I'll officially be an Attending Physician—that's a mid-level title, at least."
"So, if you become an Associate Director, that's a senior title then?" Liu Qingdong asked.
"Dad, that's not quite right. Associate Director is an administrative position. Attending Physician, Associate Chief Physician, and Chief Physician—those are professional titles," Liu Banxia explained.
"It'll take several more years to reach Associate Chief Physician. But I estimate it won't be a big problem for me. I'm not bragging; I really do have the skills."
"Hahaha! If anyone else said that, it might be bragging, but what my brother says is spot on!" Qiu Huaili said with a laugh.
Even though his understanding was a bit off, Liu Qingdong was still thrilled. This was new information he could share with his old friends back home.
"Alright, everyone wash your hands and get ready for dinner. Ming Yuan will be here in a few minutes. There are just a few vegetable dishes left to stir-fry, and then we're done. Banxia, can you have a drink tonight?" Wang Jingxian asked.
"I can. Major accidents don't happen every day, and most of the time, patients are triaged to different hospitals anyway," Liu Banxia said.
"Right now, our Emergency Center's general surgery department has the most resources. Once the interns sign their contracts, things will be even better; they'll be able to handle patients independently too."
"But you can't always push them so hard. Doctor Xu already complained, you know. She said you operate day and night, and even working in shifts, they can't keep up," Peng Xiuzhi said.
"That girl... she's always running to Qiaoqiao to complain about me behind my back," Liu Banxia said, feeling quite helpless.
As for Xu Yino and Liu Yiqing, those two little informants, even though they'll officially be part of the Emergency Center, their loyalty lies with Qiaoqiao.
With such a powerful figure like Qiaoqiao looking out for them, they can be quite mischievous.
"But it's true, both girls have gotten thinner. They're young women, after all. Even as doctors, they care about their looks," Qiaoqiao said.
"Well, isn't being a bit thinner a good thing?" Liu Banxia said with a smile.
"Oh, it's different! If they're too thin, they won't have any stamina. But being too heavy isn't good either... It's quite a dilemma. Anyway, they shouldn't get thin from overwork," Qiaoqiao rambled, not quite sure what point she was trying to make.
This made everyone laugh.
It felt like three families had become one big one here, all connected by Liu Banxia, and they all got along very well.
