Marrying His Nemesis: Kicking My Scumbag Fiancé Away!-Chapter 126: Being a Homewrecker Is the Most Shameless! (Part 2)
Late at night.
Snow started falling at some point.
Nathan slowly drove the car back to the villa area, his face also showing signs of fatigue.
These past few days, he had to take care of Chloe and handle legal cases, even though it was New Year’s Day today, he still had no time to rest, feeling both physically and mentally exhausted.
He turned the car into the garage and noticed a snowman sitting on a chair not far from the door, which made him slam on the brakes in shock.
Upon closer inspection, he realized it was a human figure.
The person stood in the shadow of the pine trees, dressed in black, covered in snow, almost blending into the night.
If it weren’t for the glowing red cigarette being held by the person, you might not notice them at all.
Nathan jumped out of the car and walked through the snow towards the figure.
As he got closer, he finally saw the person’s face clearly.
"Ethan Sterling?"
Ethan extinguished the last cigarette in the ashtray.
With snow on his hair and shoulders, he walked over and extended his right hand to pass some documents to Nathan.
Nathan took the envelope and looked at it under the streetlight, surprised.
"Where did you get this?"
"That’s not important." Ethan shoved his cold hands into his coat pockets, "Will this... help Caleb overturn the case?"
"I found some evidence over the days as well, with your information added, it definitely can." Nathan’s gaze fell on the man’s pale face, "Let’s talk inside, it’s cold out here."
"No need."
Ethan’s tone was very indifferent.
Like the drifting snow in the air, lacking warmth.
"If you don’t want to come in, that’s fine."
Nathan understood Ethan hadn’t forgiven him yet, and didn’t insist.
"Rest assured, I will handle Caleb’s case as quickly as possible, strive to overturn the original verdict and give him freedom."
"This was your debt to him."
Ethan walked away, stepping through the snow.
Nathan turned and watched the tall, thin figure disappear into the snow, wanting to call him, but didn’t make a sound.
Watching Ethan’s figure leave, he looked at the documents in his hand, climbed the steps, and took out his phone to call his assistant.
"Cancel everything scheduled for tomorrow, meet me first thing in the morning."
Walking into the living room, he took off his coat, didn’t bother to change his shoes, and hurried upstairs.
He flipped through the documents, carefully reading them from start to finish.
Nathan opened his laptop, created a new document.
Solemnly typing a few words—
"Application for retrial of the ’Zenith Apartments Collapse Case’."
...
...
The orchestra is always busiest during holidays.
After the New Year concert, there are all sorts of performances.
As the lead violinist and the deputy concertmaster, Seraphina was exceptionally busy.
Besides rehearsals and performances, she was either traveling to performances.
At the end of the semester, it’s crunch time at school, and while music majors don’t have many exams, final evaluations are crucial.
For an entire week, Seraphina seemed like she was running on a motor, incredibly busy.
On Friday, after finishing exams at school, she performed at the theater in the evening and returned to the apartment she shared with Ivy Langley late at night.
Not wanting to disturb Ivy’s rest, Seraphina quietly opened the door and walked into the living room. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Seeing Nathan stand up from the sofa, she stopped in surprise.
"Nathan... why are you here?"
Nathan looked her over, his gaze landing on her face flushed from the cold, he frowned, a guilty expression in his eyes.
"I... only found out today that you’re living with Ivy."
Seraphina put down her violin and bag, "Is there something wrong?"
"Seraphina, Attorney Foster brought great news this time." Ivy Langley laughed and came over, holding her arm, "Your brother’s case is going to be retried soon."
"Really?" Seraphina looked uncertainly at Nathan.
Nathan took out the court notice from his bag and handed it to her.
Seraphina removed her gloves and accepted the notice.
The thin A4 paper had only three lines of text, a notification about the case retrial.
Three simple lines, Seraphina read them four or five times, and stared at the big red court seal before daring to believe it wasn’t a dream.
"Because this case is significant, higher-ups are also paying attention, so arrangements should go smoothly, the hearing will be next Friday." Nathan slightly curled his lips, "We’ve already organized all the materials and evidence, I’ll personally appear in court to defend Caleb."
"Thank you." Seraphina held the notice, her fingers trembling, "Thank you for helping, please wait a moment."
She quickly walked into her room, took out the prize cheque from her drawer, and brought it to Nathan.
"This is your attorney fee."
"No, I can’t accept this." Nathan refused to take it, quickly putting the cheque back, "This... was my debt to you."
Seraphina assumed he was referring to Chloe, she raised her face.
"Business is business, personal is personal, you’re my brother’s lawyer, I should pay your fee."
Nathan felt even guiltier, "Seraphina, I... can we talk alone?"
Knowing he wanted to talk about Chloe, Seraphina gently shook her head.
"I’m sorry, I’m a bit tired, unless it’s the case about my brother, I want to rest early."
Recognizing her refusal in her tone, Nathan nodded with remorse.
"Alright... I’ll go."
He placed the cheque on the table and turned to leave.
Seraphina chased after and placed the cheque back in his hand.
"If you don’t accept the cheque, I’ll find another lawyer for the hearing."
Nathan glanced at the cheque in his hand and Seraphina’s face.
He knew that with Seraphina’s personality, she would indeed find another lawyer if he refused.
Caleb previously gave up appealing entirely because of Chloe’s fault.
This hearing could not have any more complications.
At present, he was the most likely person to help Caleb.
If he revealed the truth to her now, she would definitely refuse his assistance.
Ethan had worked hard for this information, he couldn’t let anything go wrong with the case.
Gritting his teeth, Nathan stuffed the cheque into his backpack.
"Alright, we’ll... see you at the hearing."
"Seraphina, you’ve just returned, don’t go down, I’ll see Attorney Foster off."
Ivy Langley picked up the coat and escorted Nathan downstairs.
"Attorney Foster, can I ask you, what’s the likelihood of winning Caleb’s case?"
"Based on the evidence we have now, it should be over ninety percent." Nathan answered.
"That’s good." Ivy Langley wrapped her coat tightly, "I have another question for you. Do you know Seraphina is preparing to divorce Ethan?"
Nathan froze, "What did you say, they... are getting divorced?"
"Seems like you’re in the dark too."
In the cold winter night, Ivy Langley laughed coldly and shook her head.
"I’ll be honest, the divorce is entirely because of your sister Chloe.
Attorney Foster, I respect you, your professional integrity, your character.
Seraphina appreciates everything you’ve done for Caleb, she didn’t go confront Chloe, nor did she let me, I know she didn’t want to put you in a difficult position.
But, as her friend, I can’t swallow this anger, I hope Attorney Foster would tell your sister, being a homewrecker is the most damn shameful thing, don’t think her tantrums will let her bully others freely."
