Marvel : I'm in Westview Town-Chapter 55 - : Apostle of Mephisto
Chapter 55 - 55 : Apostle of Mephisto
---
**East Township of Westview Town**
In front of a small two-story building, the black SUV of S.W.O.R.D. Bureau drove slowly and parked on the side of the road.
"Is this the building?"
The car door opened, and Wanda got out of the vehicle, pointing to the European-style building in front of her.
"Well, I hope they're home."
Monica Rambeau walked over first, her expression filled with worry. "I hope so. The recent disappearances have been disturbing. This morning, when the Burkes realized their daughter might be targeted, they demanded we find the necromancer."
"You know, it's ironic," Jimmy Woo chimed in. "The wealthy are more likely to believe in necromancers than anyone else."
Finn and Wanda both raised an eyebrow, a smirk forming on their faces.
"Uh-huh," Finn nodded in agreement, glancing at Wanda beside him.
At that moment, Wanda was engrossed in the *Darkhold*, the book of the ancient god Chthon. She had been reading it during the drive, likely hoping to find answers within its dark pages. After all, the *Darkhold* contained records of the arcane and the forbidden, which could provide insight into the disturbances in the area.
Beep!!!
"Mr. Burke, are you home?" Monica Rambeau pressed the doorbell, and the sharp tone of the bell echoed in the stillness.
After a short while, the door opened. A man with an elegant demeanor and an air of authority appeared. His dark, sharp features spoke of his Asian descent, and there was a quiet majesty in his eyes as he peered out.
Upon seeing Monica outside, he frowned. "What are you doing here? The police can't handle this."
"Mr. Burke, I understand how you feel," Monica began, her tone empathetic. She could understand his frustration. His daughter was being targeted, and the police were helpless. "But, we're not here to discuss the police. The real help comes from others—more powerful than the law enforcement."
Burke raised an eyebrow. "What are you talking about?"
Monica stepped aside to reveal Wanda and Finn standing behind her. "The ones handling this case aren't just any agents. They're some of the world's most powerful superheroes, including the Scarlet Witch."
"Scarlet Witch?" Burke's voice softened as he processed the information. He glanced up at the woman standing before him.
Then, a woman's voice echoed from inside the house, and she came out to greet them. A look of recognition spread across her face as she saw the visitors. "Burke, they're the ones who saved my daughter and me that night in the alley."
"I know you, Scarlet Witch," Burke said, his eyes lighting up. He walked forward with a smile and extended his hand.
"Hello," Wanda replied, slightly taken aback by his enthusiasm. She reached out and shook his hand, albeit a bit hesitantly.
"Well, well, well," Finn teased, lowering his head to whisper into Wanda's ear, "looks like the Scarlet Witch is a double bonus, and the S.W.O.R.D. team is stacking the odds in her favor."
Wanda shot him a side-eye, clearly not appreciating the playful remark.
"Who is this...?" Burke had naturally noticed Finn, especially given how close he and Wanda were standing.
He assumed Finn was another superhero—likely one of the Avengers.
Finn, ever the polite one, extended his hand with a smile. "I'm Finn, Wanda's... boyfriend."
"Boyfriend?" Burke blinked in surprise. He wasn't sure what to think of the revelation but shook Finn's hand nonetheless.
"He's just here to watch, but don't worry, he won't cause any trouble," Jimmy Woo interjected quickly, trying to clear up the misunderstanding. "The real team you should be focusing on is Wanda."
"Alright, let's go inside," Burke suggested, a little embarrassed but quickly masking it. He gestured for everyone to follow him.
Once inside, they quickly made their way to the second-floor bedroom, where the door was tightly shut.
"Since the nightmare last night, Josie's refused to come out of her room," Burke explained, gently opening the door.
Inside, the room was dimly lit, the windows tightly shut and the curtains drawn, creating an atmosphere of darkness. On the bed in the middle of the room lay a small girl, curled under the covers. When she heard the door open, she cautiously raised her head.
"Dad, who are they?" Josie asked, her voice filled with unease at the sudden influx of strangers.
"Josie, don't be afraid. They're here to help you," Burke said softly, walking over to the bed to comfort her.
"Josie, do you remember me?" Wanda asked gently as she stepped closer to the bed.
"Scarlet Witch!" Josie's face lit up with recognition. "Dad, you really hired a witch to help me!"
"Yeah, that's right," Burke said, breathing a sigh of relief. "Now, remember, you have to cooperate with Wanda and be brave, okay?"
Josie hesitated before looking up at Wanda. "Everyone else can stay outside, except for him," she said, pointing at Finn.
Clearly, Josie recognized Finn, the man who had helped her a month ago.
Jimmy Woo coughed awkwardly. "Uh, well, I guess I didn't pass my policeman disguise... She called out an ordinary guy by name."
Monica couldn't help but be a little embarrassed. The girl had specifically called out Finn, and it was clear she didn't need anyone else in the room.
"Okay, you stay here with Wanda," Burke said with a smile, looking at Wanda and then at Finn. He nodded at Jimmy and Monica, who reluctantly left the room, closing the door behind them.
Finn noticed the subtle shift in Burke's mood but didn't say anything. Instead, he focused on the girl lying in the bed, her small form seemingly fragile.
Squatting down beside the bed, he reached out and gently pinched Josie's cheek. "Little one, you remember me?"
Josie grinned, imitating Finn's earlier move. "Of course! You kicked the bad guys down with one kick!"
Finn chuckled softly. "When you grow up, I'll teach you how to do that."
Josie beamed at him, and for a moment, she looked like a normal child, free from the terror she had been through.
But then, Wanda's voice cut through the light-hearted exchange. "Let's get back to business."
Wanda looked at Finn, her expression more serious now. "Josie, can you tell me about your dream from last night?"
Wanda knew from S.W.O.R.D.'s reports that very little had been recorded in the official files. The situation was murky, and the nightmares Josie had been experiencing were unsettling.
Josie seemed to shrink into the blankets at the mention of her dream, her voice barely a whisper. "Last night... I dreamed someone was going to take me. He was wearing strange clothes..."
Wanda placed a gentle hand on Josie's back, using her chaos magic to calm the child. A faint red glow surrounded her hand, soothing Josie's nervousness.
"Go on," Wanda urged softly, her voice like a comforting sister.
"He... he wants to take me away. I saw a place—a dark place... It was an altar. There were many others, like me. All of us had been captured from different places..." Josie's words trailed off as she started to fall asleep mid-sentence.
Wanda's gaze softened as she watched Josie drift off into a troubled slumber. She exchanged a knowing look with Finn.
"An altar..." Wanda murmured. Her voice was calm, but her mind was racing. She turned to Finn and spoke in a low voice, "It's the Nightmare."
Finn frowned, his suspicions aligning with Wanda's. "Nightmare," he repeated. "One of the most dangerous manifestations of Mephisto's influence. He feeds on dreams, using them to grow stronger. This could be his work."
Wanda nodded. "I want to meet the Apostle of Mephisto. He's the key to this."
Finn knew this wasn't something that could be solved with small steps. "If we don't deal with the Apostle directly, this will keep happening."
Wanda's expression hardened. "I trust you," she said softly, her gaze never leaving Josie.
Time was slipping away, and they both knew this was only the beginning. Mephisto's influence was seeping into the town, and if they didn't act quickly, they might find themselves facing something far worse than just nightmares.
---
Time passed quickly.
Soon, the deep blue sky was covered with a layer of darkness, dotted with stars, and the night wind kept blowing through the trees by the roadside.
*Rustle...*
Inside the room on the second floor.
"Finn, are you not afraid of my wrong judgment?" Wanda sat on the edge of the bed, her eyes resting on the sleeping girl beneath the blanket.
"I trust you." Finn rubbed her head and said softly, "Let's get out of here first; she might be about to enter a dream later."
"I'm just worried that if something goes wrong, I won't know where she'll be taken." Wanda nodded and stood up, taking one last look at the girl curled up under the blanket.
"Wanda, do you like children very much?" Finn noticed the emotion in her eyes. The witch had shown this expression several times today.
Women really like cute human children, and Josie's appearance was indeed delicate—her pink face and high nose made her hard to not cherish at first sight.
Thinking about it, Finn smiled slightly. "You like it. We can have one when we get back."
"Who...who said I like it?" Wanda froze for a moment. She was innocent, but not stupid, and naturally knew what Finn was planning.
*Drip drip!!!*
At this moment, Wanda's phone rang, interrupting them. It was Jimmy Woo, who was next door. "Josie's brainwaves are abnormal. She's entered a dream."
Hearing this, the two hurried to the next room.
At the moment, there were only Jimmy Woo and Monica in the room. As for the Burke couple, they were picked up by the S.H.I.E.L.D. this afternoon, to avoid hindering their work.
"There's been a lot of volatility, and it looks like she's having nightmares again." Monica pointed to the electroencephalogram on the screen of the instrument, which was fluctuating with increasing amplitude.
The greater the fluctuation, the more intense Josie's dream activity was. As time went on, the brainwave curve kept rising.
"She's terrified... terrified..." Wanda closed her eyes slowly, feeling the girl's emotions from the next room. Her own breathing became short and quick.
"Calm down, it's okay, this is normal behavior," Finn said as he stroked Wanda's back, comforting her.
"She's up."
At this time, Jimmy Woo, who was watching the surveillance screen, saw the girl standing up from the bed. Her eyes were tightly closed, clearly unconscious and dreamwalking.
Then, the girl walked to the window, exerted great strength with her arms, and slammed the window open, standing on the windowsill.
Clearly, she wanted to jump.
"She's going to jump!" Seeing this, Jimmy Woo hurriedly got up to save her.
"No, she'll be fine." Finn grabbed him and stared at the girl in the picture.
"Are you crazy? This is the second floor!" James Woo tried to break free but found Finn's grip like iron clamps. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't break free.
"Finn, you're right..." Wanda just finished speaking.
The girl jumped.
Then, she disappeared from the monitoring range, and the screen flickered violently, as if paralyzed by the influence of a powerful magnetic field.
"Shet! Crazy!" At that moment, Finn let go, and Jimmy Woo cursed, rushing downstairs.
The three of them followed, and when they got downstairs, the scene in front of them shocked the two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
The girl who jumped from the second floor was unharmed. Instead, she ran quickly toward the north.
A girl who was obviously so small, yet running so fast.
"Damn it!" James Woo stared at Finn in disbelief. How did this guy know?
"Don't be dazed, hurry up and take a look." After Finn's prompt, he pulled Wanda to follow Josie's figure, and they plunged into the darkness ahead.
"I think we should wait for reinforcements first," James Woo said, scared, but couldn't stop them. He could only watch the two go ahead.
"Follow up quickly, do you want to be left behind by an ordinary person?" Monica wasn't about to wait for reinforcements. She hurriedly chased after the two, not forgetting to turn to Woo.
"Fack..."
Reluctantly, Jimmy Woo glanced at the empty road, his heart pounding in terror, gritting his teeth as he followed behind.

Ten minutes later, the group followed Josie, still dreamwalking, to the woods outside the town. There stood a decaying old church with a messy yard, clearly abandoned for a long time.

Josie walked up to the church, and the door opened automatically.
The group, hiding behind trees, saw several other dreamwalking figures in the distance.
There were old and young, men and women. They walked into the open doors of the church one after another, and then the heavy doors slammed shut. The closed windows sealed the church from the outside world.
"Okay, now that we're all here, I want to be assigned as the doctor." Jimmy Woo took a deep breath, nearly exhausted from running all the way. He sighed in relief, then continued, "Finn, you stay here. The three of us will go in."
But before he finished speaking, Finn and Wanda had already started walking toward the church.
"What? Monica, are you sure you don't want to stop him?" James Woo was frustrated. "An ordinary person is cannon fodder when facing supernatural events, even if he has the strongest Avenger as his girlfriend."
Jimmy Woo saw Finn ignore him completely, and he complained angrily with some embarrassment.
"Shh, hurry up." Monica didn't pay attention to him and strode after the two of them.
James Woo had no choice but to follow them. Before leaving, he left a communicator with the location of S.H.I.E.L.D. in case something unexpected happened.

"It's kind of spooky here, but I've only seen it in movies before." Finn looked around at the gloomy forest, frowning slightly.
"Shh, Finn, be quiet."
Wanda put her hand over his mouth and noticed a few crows flying overhead.
After spending so much time with him, the witch realized that Finn was always optimistic, even when facing Mephisto's apostles. He could talk and laugh, making the atmosphere feel relaxed, as if there were no fears at all.
Perhaps that was Finn's unique "super ability."

Just as he was thinking, the door of the church opened automatically.
"How did it open?" Wanda was puzzled.
"He's provoking us. Do you want to go in?" Finn sensed the presence of eyes watching them.
It was unfortunate for the person on the other side. Their magic skills were too low to escape Finn's perception.
"Go in." Wanda hesitated for a moment, thinking about Josie, who had just entered the church. She clenched her fist slightly and walked in first.
"You two are free." Seeing this, Finn hurriedly followed. It seemed really interesting to face a messenger of Mephisto for the first time.
James Woo and Monica exchanged a glance before they followed.
After everyone entered, the heavy door of the church slammed shut.
*Bang!*
A huge sound echoed through the forest.
However, what the group didn't know was that as they were about to enter the church, two figures appeared on the hillside not far away. One was thin, the other large, and they stood there, staring at the church.
"Stephen, are you sure it's here?" Wong wondered.
"Yes, Wong, though you are the Sorcerer Supreme, my attainments in this area are higher than yours," Doctor Strange Stephen Strange replied, slightly dissatisfied with Wong's question.
"Then don't talk nonsense. Hurry up and go look. I have to deal with other things in the dojo later."
"Come on, Wong. Dealing with Mephisto is what a Sorcerer Supreme should do!"
The two of them glanced at each other, said no more, and flew toward the church, wrapped in golden light.
