Master Of None-Chapter 2821. Clearing Of Crystal Light
Alice hummed the entire time that the pair followed the flow of light mana. The bracelet that had come from the set storing the haven of the fairy dragons was also seemingly resonating with her music. The light mana seemed to be absorbed by it as if it was hungry for a chance to feed the light mana to the herbs, monsters, and fairy dragons within. That might be the case too for all the party would know.
They really didn’t have more knowledge since Walker couldn’t get more appraisals from the set of items that would degrade in to nothing if they failed to find places for the fairy dragons. The level of crafting utilizing magic was beyond them right now. Another reason to try and find more of these ruined towers that acted as bastions of safety for mages who no longer existed.
"Sister. We are close, I can feel the mana." Midnight spoke and seemed like she was actually a little more chatty than usual. She also called Alice sister which made Alice quite a bit happier.
While Alice and Midnight had not been far apart in terms of their relationship, Midnight has been focused more on her battle side lately. She also spent a lot of time with the young hatchlings who could become dragons mixed with the people of Genesis more than the older dragons. So, it left Alice and Midnight apart more often than not.
"Mhm, the light mana is stronger in the clearing there. It’s also brighter?" The surprised gasp at the end was something Midnight shared since they both realized they were looking at a clearing in some trees that shined more than normal. It actually seemed like a mirror might be reflecting light or some form of light magic was already in effect.
It was very different from the naturally formed light elemental runes that they had seen or heard of. It shouldn’t be bright and reflective at all. Then again, this was why the two were now on higher alert. They didn’t trust that they were going to land on the ground and be amongst safety if this was such a visible area.
Visible meant easier to find, which should have been good.
Visible also meant that more monsters could also find it. And since monsters also needed strong light mana to consume, hunt monsters that consumed light mana, or consume herbs that grew around light mana dense areas, it was not a good sign that the pair found this area so quickly.
It would have made both of them feel more comfortable if it was a ruined area with an older naturally formed light elemental rune that was fading. It could be exposed to more sun or repaired using magic in some form if they asked Walker for help. But this rune was clearly stronger than the other light elemental runes for some reason.
Landing in the wooded area a little further allowed for them to move slowly and prepare themselves for what they might find. However, when their feet touched the ground, both realized that the leaves crunched under their feet in odd ways. It felt like they had stepped on leaves and a mix of thin glass instead of just the leaves. The sound would make more sense in a blacksmith workshop or a damaged greenhouse.
Looking down and moving some of the leaves with her claws, Midnight uncovered what appeared to be thin crystal leaves covered in dirt and dust. The light filtering through the trees caught the clear crystalline structure and glinted off of it leaving a dull glow around it.
"What is this?" Alice leaned in and took one scroll from inside the robes she wore. She had asked for it to be modified to hold a few small potions, scrolls, and other useful materials in pockets so she could still have the light gathering aspect, but also a more practical use for her everyday robes. It was perfect since she often didn’t have time to rush off for more bandages or even a snack with how busy she was.
The scroll she took out was an all around appraisal scroll since she hadn’t been lucky enough to learn a proper appraisal skill just yet. Midnight somewhat had one but it was still not as good as the scroll based entirely off of Walker’s skill. The fact that they were also made constantly to be shared through Genesis made them much more useful.
Then again, magic scrolls were becoming more and more popular because merchants were having specialized appraisers contract with them to have such scrolls made. Therefore, they could have a scroll to help them while they were out doing business. It was a unique way to get around having a traveling appraiser which was another mouth to feed, another person at risk during travel, and also a larger fee to pay someone who would travel with them while moving in a merchant caravan.
’Crystal maple leaf
This is a single leaf fallen from the crystal maple tree. Many would see this as a piece to harvest and sell while others would see it as a material in alchemy to create a unique light affinity potion. Although it is not necessarily a light affinity material, instead it is an earth affinity material that gained light affinity due to the closeness to a naturally formed light elemental rune...’
Now the pair understood. This area had been under the effects of a light elemental rune formed through the flow of natural light mana in a clearing. It was because of this that the environment changed, becoming a grove of crystalized trees reflecting the light mana and allowing for the naturally formed rune to become stronger. Lasting through generations.
Even without the flow of mana from the elemental planes, this naturally formed light rune had to have survived enough to become this bright. It was a stand out event for sure.
The two pushed through the trees and saw that they too became like crystals. The trees reflected the light coming from the flickering light affinity rune and making the air warm. It also purified the ground causing decay to be nearly impossible. Meaning that a few small bodies of monsters had also been purified and crystallized over time. It was a unique form of earth and light mana working together in ways that only the two elemental planes border lands would have acted on.
Yet this was the world. Making it that much more unique of a place and event.
The crackling of crystal leaves made them look up, finding what appeared to be white bats hanging from the branches of different species of crystalized trees growing there naturally.
’Crystal fur bat
These bats are opposite to the other species of bats that prefer the night time to hunt. Instead of using their eyes, they sense the flow of light mana and pursue insect type monsters with higher light affinity. They prefer to live in areas with high light mana because they can more easily protect their young there by utilizing the light mana as a weapon.
Their main attacks are using their light mana to attack in small beams they shoot from their mouths or to strengthen their wings and clash with attackers slicing their enemies to pieces using the light mana. They are actually a peaceful monster that will not harm others if not threatened, this is why they allow the crystal spiders to form webs around them, they will often consume any parasites trying to bother the youngest crystal fur bats...’
Alice and Midnight looked around and soon saw the perfectly camouflaged crystal spiders. They blended with the crystal trees and clearly reflected the light as well. They would stand out a lot outside of this area or a cavern with plenty of glowing crystals. They also appeared to be peacefully sitting in trees or moving around the bats that were resting.
In a small shift, Midnight and Alice noticed several eggs and two sleeping fairy dragons getting pulled out of the bracelet which then began to crack. It fell to pieces right before their eyes and the first bit of shell cracked as light mana was dragged in from the light elemental rune.
Yet, the naturally formed rune didn’t fade, it appeared to grow stronger as if it was waiting for a change like this. Surprisingly, a few light elemental spirits showed themselves, some that should have been on the cusp of becoming members of the spirit race yet seemed to have held themselves back. Whether it was the bond with the naturally formed rune or not wasn’t something either of them would understand.
What they did grasp though, was that they were witnessing the return of one part of the fairy dragon species, so, they would witness it and remember it clearly.
