Master Of None-Chapter 2827. Intentional
The trees started to be clear in an odd path. The area that they were traveling through even seemed to have plants that grew which would deter most common monsters. Looking more closely, Walker found that the tree roots grew in ways that made it impossible for plants to grow on the path they walked. He even noticed that the thorn bushes growing between those trees were tougher than normal.
"It’s like these trees and bushes were grown in ways to make sure that there wasn’t anything else that would grow here." Walker and Gil knelt to look at them more closely. The two of them had seen enough intentionally grown plants to understand that this was something very well planned out.
"You don’t think this was done because it was a road at one point?"
The two were starting to come up with their own theories. "Even if that was the idea, the ancient mages could have grown it to force monster sin to a chokepoint. It made it safer for them to live in this area. We just see the rough tenements." between the theory that it was done for strategy or for this moment was interesting. Both had plausible potential.
But it also presented the idea that there might be much more a time mage could see as a potential in the future. "And the stone sticking up there with a lot of rune carvings on it?" Remey sighed and looked ahead where she spotted something that everyone else hadn’t been looking for since they were getting in to their own theories.
"Berries!" Midnight leaped up in excitement as she recognized the tart and sweet red raspberries she and Su had developed a taste for in the tarts they bought from street vendors. It seemed that these had also been placed amongst the thorn bushes to deter monsters.
"This all feels very coincidental brother. Even the tree branches are covering the path we are walking like it was made to be shady and pleasant." Onyx slithered in and out of some shadows because he felt comfortable doing so along the path. It was overall too nice compared to the fact that all other areas had tracks or proof that monsters moved through the area. Here, there was none of that. It was like a peaceful heaven by comparison.
Even the herbs and other plants that had poisons or venoms were not around. This land was full of unique ecosystems that survived untouched, yet this area was the opposite. It was a deterrent to those ecosystems to the point that it was like another world all within itself.
’Ward rune
This is a small part of the ward rune formation. It naturally deters those of strong bloodlines due to the unique mix of manas flowing through it. Most monsters and powerful beings would feel uncomfortable crossing the borders of this rune formation making it valuable to many who wish to live in peace.
This formation is degrading but was created to last for hundreds of years...’
The rune formation could be vaguely seen on the ground too connected to what must be another pillar standing in the same situation in the distance. Walker could sense the slight clashing of the mana within it which was why he could tell it was uncomfortable. That clashing of manas would make anyone or anything with some sensitivity to mana feel like they were on a rocking ship.
It wasn’t a violent deterrent, just something that made someone feel unwell. Enough to make someone wish not to be within a certain area.
"Yeah, I don’t like this." Alice didn’t sound so sweet as she recoiled. With how she drew in light mana naturally with her words, suddenly feeling that disrupted made her feel very sick. This would be how one of the angel race felt if they walked through this rune formation. The ward would disrupt the flow of mana to their wings, causing them to feel ill.
"It’s just a formation about a foot thick. Just push past it and you will be fine." Walker showed everyone the way that the runes were carved in stones that the roots seed to grow around rather than through, under, or above. It was an incredible detail in terms of planning. It proved this was all more intentional than anything.
"If this is all growing so well, then why are we looking for ruins? Shouldn’t we be looking for something more intact?" Gil was speaking the exact thing that everyone else was thinking now. It made a lot more sense that they should all be looking for a solid village living safely at this point. Not some ruins from ancient times.
"I took time to get the forest and bushes to grow. Time to make sure the warding rune formation is set up and kept up. I have a feeling this was all made for the fact that it would develop over time. It was built for the future, not for the now."
"So you think that they built it all knowing they wouldn’t see it safe and sound?" Su knew this was exactly what Walker was saying. But that didn’t mean she liked hearing it.
This sounded like they had intentionally sacrificed themselves in their present to make a path for the future. Yet who was here to see it and utilize it?
No one but the party right now.
"What about the people who are adventurers here looking for materials, monsters, and herbs? If we leave these lands undeveloped for those ready to explore, this is a safe place for them to rest. We aren’t close to our camp at all. We are very far from it."
"Walker has a good point. I would see this place on a map and make it sort of my intended travel. This could be a camping spot or a trading spot. It’s perfect to think of where else I could go from here." With Walker and Gil falling in to their own planning with scouting and mapping, Midnight and Alice spotted more of the stone pillars. These had markings on them though.
"Are these street signs?" They looked worn and worse for wear, but they were identifiable.
"They might be, there are rough paths here too." Su sighed, realizing she would never understand what the exact intentions were of the ancient mages. Time was already complicated and those who used that mana would definitely be complicated too.
Looking further ahead, they spotted stone buildings. "This ruin isn’t a tower, it’s a small village." Walker laughed a bit before he felt mana flowing toward the deeper side of this rough stone village.
"They didn’t have much building skills. You think they set it all up knowing it wouldn’t be the same as what we have today?" Since Remey knew a few soft hits could break these stone buildings without doors, she felt her idea was right.
"If they just wanted to set up a base line for the future, it’s perfect. Plus, they saw potential and maybe potential future visions. I would assume that they prepared what they could since they didn’t have the skills for other things like advanced building in the same ways we had."
"So they could make extremely amazing sets of gear to wear, but they couldn’t make a house?"
"They couldn’t make a house that lasted many years of natural growth and elemental mana complications." Du countered Remey again but this time she also gestured to the way that the trees grew around here. The roots moved in to and over the stone homes holding them together. It was all intentional so that everything lasted.
"It’s all pretty amazing then." Remey hurumpherd before she locked in on the spark of flames ahead.
"Those are stone goblets burning aren’t they?"
’Eternal flame goblet
These flames are unique in the way that the town formations carved allowed them to absorb mana from the air and remain lit. They were made to share basic warmth and light at all times. The work through...’
The complicated rune formation talk after made Walker note it down mentally after explaining it a little. He didn’t understand it perfectly but it was information that would help others and be useful in Genesis for the coldest times of the year.
"That’s the place I feel the strongest mana." Walker pointed out the dilapidated stone building. This one seemed to be more similar to the ruined earth tower than the huts made of stone they had seen. Here it felt like a real ruin made to last and protect something. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
"I bet there is a lot to explore in there." Gil and Midnight seemed to spark a little competition as the room the forward position in scouting. It appeared the two were not going to be holding back their curiosity at all. Not one bit.
