Mated to A Rival Alpha-Chapter 311: The Scraps of Hope? [3]
[OBREN]
"Holy shit," Bai Ting said as he looked at the emptiness they were met with. It may have been a dark night and with the moon shining selectively, but goddamn, it was the one thing that made them see what had remained of Calindra, the once-powerful pack.
It was not even a shell of what it once was anymore. This was something else. Calindra looked like a version of hell that no one had been to for years; it looked like a blank space, one that many wouldn’t want to be in. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"What the hell happened here?" the vampire King asked as he took in the sight before them. If the things he had expected, this was certainly not it and it wasn’t even on his long list of expectations.
It was almost like they had walked into a madhouse, one that no one could ever be able to explain without everything turning out to be a chaotic home. This was absurd and it was making him wonder what else was here.
Right now he was seeing the madness that would happen if anyone crossed Kim Rania and as difficult as it would always be for the vampire King to admit, his daughter stood no chance with the woman.
"She never had a chance," bai Ting whispered defeatedly as he saw the charred remains. He could see the rot that had remained of the bodies that had fallen.
There were skeletons all over and each time he put a foot forward he was risking shattering someone’s bones. There were vultures in the area, who had clearly been there for a long while.
It had been three months since they had received the letter from Luna Park.
Three months since the woman had asked them for help and three months that they had spent contemplating whether shit had really happened or Luna Park had been out of her mind.
"We should have reached out sooner," King Nathaniel said to his brother, but even he knew that none of this would ever make it any better for them.
They wouldn’t have been able to do anything, no matter how guilty they felt. It didn’t matter that their friends had gone through this, because clearly, there was a more powerful creature involved here.
"Do you think she is involved with Kaia Seto?" Bai Ting asked, even though the statement sounded crazy, but then there had to be an explanation for this. Because no regular wolf would be able to do what Kim Rania had done.
"We came here for Yanagida Seto. Don’t jinx it," the King said to his brother, though even he had a feeling that something was amiss here.
There was no hope here anymore.
Calindra was a lost case and as much as they wished this was some illusion, the stench of death that was still hitting them, and the blank space not to mention the grass that had overgrown, and the house that were covered in wildflowers was proof that this was real.
The houses may have been chartered but the mess that had remained was one that screamed horrors, endless horrors for anyone who was stupid enough to try and go after Kim Rania.
"Well, it does seem like we are not going to be getting any answers in the middle of this mess. Look around brother, this is crazy. Whoever this Rania is, I am starting to like her," Bai Ting said and his brother stared at him blankly.
This wasn’t the time for such, but then they couldn’t deny the obvious fact that Kim Rania was a piece of work.
"Oh come on. You know what I mean, brother," Bai Ting defended and Nathaniel just sat on the ground, his head between his knees as he tried to understand what the hell he was doing.
He was a King, one who had just decided to up and leave his Kingdom because of a woman he wasn’t even sure was his daughter. But then again, Paloma had confirmed it and Paloma believed in family, so she wouldn’t have left.
Even then it was driving him nuts. It was like he was making rash decisions but then hope always did that to people.
At the first glimmer of hope, he had upped and left his home to come and avenge his little girl, even though a part of him was hoping for something, anything positive about his daughter.
There was just nothing about Yanna out there. It was like the King was walking in the shadows and hoping that everything would make sense.
"Do you think I should go back home and forget about all this?" Nathaniel asked his brother. There was little information but then he was clinging to hope, and it was dangerous.
"Honestly, that is what I wanted for you the first few months. I wished you could just let everything go, because there was literally nothing on your daughter.
"Many knew her as the Calindra Luna and now with the Calindra people gone, there is no information out there about her. The only thing we know is that the mad King triggered the Lunar trial for her.
"That had to mean that she was loved by her people. But then now that we are here and Calindra is as empty as it comes, there is no telling what we will hear about her.
"I know this is probably not what you want to hear at the moment, but it is the one truth that we have to face," Bai Ting said earnestly and his brother just sighed. Of course, there had to be more to this.
Even Nathaniel knew that no one in their right mind would hate someone so bad like that. It just wasn’t logical in any universe. There was just no way the psycho would decide to come after his child, not one, but twice, and make sure that she killed her a second time.
It was wild in every sense, and that could only mean that whatever Yanna had done, it had to be crazy enough for Rania to want her dead, twice. But what had she done?
He was just a father, desperate and now as he looked around him, he could see that perhaps hope was the only thing that would ruin him.
"—But I have seen you cry yourself to sleep and while you will deny it, one way or the other, losing Yanna fucked you up really bad. In all my days of knowing you, a broken heart is something that I have never seen you with.
"And yet for the past ten months that is all you have been suffering through. I want you to get closure brother, even if it means that we get our asses kicked along the way. We will find the truth about this.
"We will know what really happened. And you won’t be doing it alone," Bai Ting added earnestly. This was the only thing he could accord his brother. Perhaps at the end of the day, they would get to some point with this, right?
"Everything will be fine. I suppose our next stop is at the Obren people’s palace. Perhaps there could be someone there who knows what the hell happened and could shed more light on why this is messy.
"I have never seen Obren this empty," Nate said after a long silence. He wanted answers and maybe they would find them at the people’s palace, even if that meant going to meet with his former best friend, who wanted him dead too, King Seojoon.
