Chapter 140: Found!

Frank saw no need to stretch things out and simply decided to bite the bullet as he opened his mouth to speak, gritting his teeth together to stop himself from stuttering the words out. ’I lied! He hasn’t been found yet!’ He was prepared to say and had just opened his mouth to say those exact same words when he suddenly heard noises from behind him.

Where they stood was close to the main doors of the mansion, so the second they heard the noise of footsteps, both Frank and Cain turned to look as they heard loud voices right after.

"We found him! We found him!" a guard dashed in through the door, heading straight for them the second he spotted Frank and recognized Cain, who stood in front of him. The guard instinctively lowered his gaze to the floor as he moved closer and knelt down to greet them.

"My lord! We fo-found--" his words trailed off as he spoke, only to look straight ahead and see the sight of the bodies in front of him, littered in pieces on the ground. His eyes widened in horror, and he stumbled back in shock as the question of how so many guards and people had died was stuck in his throat.

"Where is he!" Cain spoke in a louder and more authoritative voice as he pushed Frank aside and stepped closer to the guard, who was still half-kneeling on the ground and trembling in fear. He lowered his head back to the ground.

"The-they at-are—" The guard stuttered badly as he failed to put his sentences together in a coherent manner, especially with Cain’s eyes still blazing a faint red even in his human form, a gaze that seemed to want to tear him to utter shreds.

But thankfully, he didn’t have to stutter for long. More voices and footsteps could be heard as other people walked in with excited expressions on their faces. Cain was already walking toward them the second he caught sight of the slender body in the arms of the guard in the middle.

Cain instantly moved closer, knowing who it was even before he fixed his eyes on the body, which had been bruised with a bloody cloth tied around her face. Blood still dripped from her mouth, where it was obvious her tongue had been cut out.

Her skin was littered with cuts, and after another cursory look, it was clear that the pinky finger on her left hand had also been cut off. She was barely hanging on by a thread as Cain reached out to place his finger under her nose, only to discover that she was barely hanging on to her dear life.

Frank had already dashed forward, and the expression of relief on his face seemed much greater than anyone else there. He watched Cain intensely, trying to gauge his emotions as he opened his mouth to speak.

"I’ll call a doctor and a witch!" Frank said. All he could sense was anger wafting off Cain, and that was enough. Moreover, the fear he still felt hadn’t disappeared, and until it did, he felt safer distancing himself from Cain.

He had served Cain wholeheartedly for years, and the thought that he could have died seconds ago jarred him in a way that made his loyalty shake. He lowered his head and asked Cain for permission.

Taking his phone out of his pocket as he began dialing the numbers, his gaze slid toward the bodies on the ground. The stench of blood and rotting flesh slowly filled the air in a way that almost made it difficult to breathe. He realized that he also had to call more doctors to save those who could still be saved.

Cain, on the other hand, didn’t do anything. He stood there, watching Viole with a cold look in his eyes, even as the other three guards held their breath. They had been excited until they stepped in and were assaulted by the smell around them.

Cain’s bloody body was all the evidence they needed for the culprit. Their bodies shook as they lowered their heads and waited for Cain’s decision.

Surely, he won’t kill us! ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

We found his lover! ...the fucking demon hasn’t said a word to us!

Lord Cain killed everyone?

Yet Howie was the one who seemed the most unsettled. His heart pounded in his chest as he continued to carry Cain’s lover in his arms. He kept his expression neutral, even though his body threatened to betray him.

The anger in Cain’s eyes was visible, but the fact that he simply stood there without doing anything else as silence settled among them made Howie uneasy. Frank’s voice on the phone was the only thing that could be heard as Howie lowered his head.

She’s on the brink of death, and he’s not moving an inch... maybe he doesn’t actually care as much as he seems, Howie thought. That’s not a good thing since my escape hinges on him caring enough to create an opportunity for me to escape.

Worse! The last thing I expected to see was a bloodbath!

Frank finished his call and turned to Cain, speaking in a low voice, though all the other guards could still hear. "They should be here in minutes!" Frank informed him, and Cain nodded his head to show that he heard before he finally opened his mouth to speak, his question directed to one of the two guards right behind Howie, ignoring the one kneeling on the ground.

"He found Viole!" Cain gestured to Howie, who was covered in bits of different smells of blood, to which the guard hurriedly nodded his head. "Yes! He managed to kill the one who committed the atrocity but only after Reddrick had killed Savi, another guard!" he explained with his head bowed.

"I could check..." Frank began to offer, only to stop as he saw Cain shake his head and raise his hand to stop him from speaking.

"Take all of them and lock them in the basement along with every other guard or servant in this mansion!" Cain said, ignoring the way their mouths dropped open. He gestured toward Howie to pass him Viole, who was still completely unconscious.

"Break each of their legs too! It’ll be difficult for you to manage them by yourself!" Cain said, even as he wrapped his arms around Viole’s body. It was only the second day, yet her body felt like bones—almost like there was no more flesh clinging to it.

"...my... my lord!" they began to stammer and protest one after the other as they dropped to their knees and pleaded, all three of them, including Howie, who was the most panicked.

Terrified beyond words as he realized that things weren’t playing out the way he had expected. Getting locked up was never part of the plan.

"...my lord! We’ve done nothing—" Howie began to say, even as anger boiled within him. He tried not to let it take control, even as Frank moved forward, pushing one of the three guards to the ground and breaking his leg. The guard tried hard not to scream but took it like a man.

The other two guards were about to protest even louder, but they shut up as they felt the intensity of Cain’s gaze on their faces. Cain spoke to them, "If you’d rather be dead, I can have that arranged!" Cain coldly said, his gaze lingering on Howie for a second longer before gesturing toward Frank, who was in the process of breaking another leg.

"Lock this one up tightly!" he ordered Frank before moving closer to Howie and speaking in a way only he could understand. "You found him, right? Then you’ll keep what you found to yourself, and you will be rewarded!" Cain promised him before turning around to head back to his wing.

Howie didn’t know whether to be delighted or relieved, even as he watched Frank move toward him to break his leg. "You don’t have to... I won’t—"

"Look around you!" Frank snapped, anger visible in his eyes as he spoke. The only reason he was sure most of the elite guards were safe was because they were guarding the gates. "...If you’d prefer to die, that’s your choice!" Frank warned, even as he beckoned for Howie to come closer before going ahead to break his legs since flesh healed quickly, but bones were much harder and took much longer.
