Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 153: Assigning Blame
Chapter 153: Assigning Blame
"It’s your fault I was kidnapped, and I blame you!" she snapped, tears running down her face, aware that if she hadn’t gotten close to him, such a thing wouldn’t have happened.
"I have nothing to give you!" Her gaze was fierce even though her vision was still blurry, and she could only make out Cain’s image without being able to see the expression on his face or other tiny details.
"If you want to fuck me, then fuck me and let me go!" she told him as plainly as she could, meaning every word. At that very moment, all she wanted was to distance herself from Cain and never have to see him again.
"Please!" she begged, knowing she would have fallen to her knees and hugged his legs if she thought it would help change his mind.
"I don’t—" but she was still speaking through an even blurrier vision from crying when she suddenly saw Cain get on his feet and move closer to her. His tall stature towered over her with ease, even as she raised her head to look at him, still unable to tell what expression he had on his face. But at that moment, Violet didn’t care.
"I don’t want to be here anymore! I want to leave!" she continued, going ahead to finish what she had been about to say, only to stiffen ever so slightly as she watched Cain move even closer, dropping his arms on the bed and caging her there as he leaned in until his face was barely inches away from her own.
Her eyes flurried around, even as she leaned back, feeling the heat of his breath against the side of her cheek as she leaned forward, trying to avoid him, and heard him respond.
"If you want to leave, I’ll graciously point out the door!" he said, his tone calm and voice soft in a way that should have made her feel more relieved, but instead, all she felt was goosebumps rising against her skin and a shiver running down her spine in fear.
"You want to leave? Then I’ll tell the guards to open the gates for you!" Cain continued before moving back and falling onto the bed to sit right next to Violet, who seemed to watch every single one of his movements, even though he was sure she could barely see his entire profile from the way she squinted at him.
For a moment, Violet said nothing as she sat on the bed, twiddling her thumbs together, allowing the silence to settle between them, only to jump up the next moment and slowly begin to move to the door while talking to Cain.
"Then I’ll thank you in advance! I don’t need to take anything with me and—" but Violet was still speaking when she heard Cain interrupt her before she could finish as he hummed.
"...Like I said, you’re allowed to leave, but there’s no telling what the other person who kidnapped you knows!" He sighed, even as he leaned his elbows against his knees, watching her, satisfied to see her body stiffen in response to his words.
"Witches aren’t allowed to live on werewolf land, and once caught, everyone who helped hide them will be killed! If you leave, I can’t promise that it won’t—" but this time, it was Violet who didn’t allow him to finish as she jerked her face back to glare at him, her voice rising in anger and fury.
"...You wouldn’t dare! You—you wouldn’t dare implicate yourself!" Violet snapped at him, wondering what his aim was. At that point, she was completely and utterly tired, enough that she almost didn’t care what Cain did to her parents as long as she could escape.
Even as she spoke, her hands trembled as the memory of what she had gone through and the urge to weep and scream was still embedded in her bones. She refused to crumble in front of Cain, knowing he would only use such a weakness against her.
The pain she had felt...the fear...made her powerful, but at the same time, it made her apathetic to everything else. All she wanted was to flee and never again come back, only for him to threaten that she wouldn’t even make it home before she was caught.
"I AM LORD! I killed all the servants...I can think of more than one reason why I’ll be fine!" he responded with a light chuckle that made Violet want to break something as she heard him continue to speak.
"You make it sound like I’m imprisoning you when all I want is to protect you!" he said, which only made Violet grind her teeth together in anger as she seethed in fury, her fists balled together by her side.
"THEN LET ME GO!" she screamed at him, tears cascading down her face as she raised her hands to wipe them off with the back of her hand before they streamed down her cheeks.
"What do you want from me? I can never like you! Ever! You’re a monster!" she began speaking, hoping that saying such words would make him angry enough to let her go and forget everything about her.
"You kill humans like they’re ants. You care about no one but yourself, and you simply do what you want! Even if your parents were alive...I’m sure your heart would still be just as cold!" she spat at him, her body trembling in fear, but otherwise, she still didn’t care.
If you want to kill me...fucking kill me! The thought of ever going through what she went through made her completely fearless of death as she continued to look in Cain’s direction, even as she watched him sit on the bed without doing anything else.
He simply looked at her, which worried her even more, considering the words she had just spoken out of her mouth.
"If you think I care about you, then you’re mistaken! I could never care about someone like—"
"You think I’m a monster?" Cain suddenly interrupted before she could finish, even as he got to his feet, standing by the side of the bed without making any moves to come closer to where she was.
Yet it wasn’t his tone that made her wary but the light chuckle that accompanied his words as he spoke. "You think I’m a monster?" he asked again, even as he continued to speak. "...Well, you’re the monster’s mate! So what do you think about that!" he said, even as a confused expression appeared on Violet’s face as she processed his words.
An utterly confused expression appeared on her face as she heard him speak, "Wha-what?"
She had read quite a number of books in the mansion’s library, so she knew the meaning of a mate to a werewolf, and she was already shaking her head as she heard it. "Tha-that’s impossible!"
"I’m a hum—"
"You’re a witch!" But Violet didn’t care as she took a step forward with an ugly expression on her face.
"I’m not a werewolf!" she snapped. "And moreover, I feel nothing for you! I—I would know!" she stuttered, recalling the details she had brushed through and wishing she had read more about it as she heard Cain respond.
"You’re a witch! It’s rare, but it’s quite possible!" Cain told her, but Violet, who was already trembling on the spot she stood in, continued to vigorously shake her head.
"I—I can’t!" she mumbled under her breath, even as she thought back to all she knew, coupled with the rumors she had heard. Opening her mouth the very next second to speak, "I, Violet Triv, reject you—" but of course, she didn’t get to finish that sentence before she felt her back slam against the wall.
