Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 167: Family Colors
Chapter 167: Family Colors
"Wha-what?" she stammered out in visible shock, completely taken aback by what she had just heard, even more surprised to hear Frank speak again as he stepped in front of her, speaking louder to the guards who looked just as stunned as she did. "Open the gates and let her leave. The Lord’s lover is not a prisoner!" he ordered the guards. Some of them looked like they would like to argue, but Frank’s expression left no room for it as the main two guards by the gates immediately bowed their heads before going ahead to do as they were ordered.
"What time will you return?" Frank turned around to ask Violet, who hadn’t in the slightest expected her leaving to be so easy.
"Do you need a guard?" Frank gently asked, even as she immediately shook her head with a hint of a smile on her face as she responded.
"I’m a man! I can take care of myself!" she said, stepping forward to leave and walk out through the gates, never intending to come back. Freezing for a couple of seconds, she turned around to send Frank a pitiful look, which he seemed not to understand.
At that moment, she was aware that leaving would immediately cause problems for Frank, who had allowed her to leave, even as she hoped that Cain wouldn’t be angry enough to directly kill him the moment he returned.
If you can, you should find a better job! Violet thought before turning back around to walk out the gates, ignoring the guards who stared intensely at her but otherwise did nothing else as they allowed her to leave, shutting the gates after receiving Frank’s orders to do so.
Frank mumbled under his breath, already heading towards the other entrance that only he was aware of. As a werewolf, just asking to be fired is the same as leaving the pack and asking to be killed! he thought, aware that even if another lord accepted him, earning Cain’s ire wasn’t worth it.
Putting the matter behind him, Frank ran as fast as he could, ignoring the gaze of the guards by the gate as he headed out the gates through another route, intent on catching up with Violet and following Cain’s orders of tracking her down.
For Violet, the moment she was out of the gates and they were closed behind her, she couldn’t help but soak in the freedom she felt as she raised her head and let the heat of the sun touch her face.
Deep down, she still felt the urge to return, to obey the strange feelings wiggling in her chest, not to stray away from Cain, even if she knew that staying with him meant watching every word she said, her every movement and speech, in order not to piss him off in a way that would make him treat her like the people he had previously killed.
That’s not the life I want to live! she thought, aware that if she stayed, regardless of what she thought, her body would no longer reject him, something she didn’t want for herself.
True to what she said, Violet didn’t immediately jump into a cab that would take her straight home. Instead, she walked for a few moments while looking behind her to ensure that she wasn’t being followed by any of Cain’s guards.
She had no idea why Frank had easily allowed her to leave, but since she was already out, she refused to dwell on it. Looking back to make sure she was indeed alone, she hailed a public cab that would immediately take her home.
Breathing a sigh of relief the moment she entered and the car began to move, she looked out the window, ignoring the rest of the people in the car. Violet couldn’t help but wonder why, instead of feeling excited, she felt the subtle sensation like she was losing something. Again, she buried her feelings deep within, concentrating on getting home and moving her family elsewhere.
The journey took a while after changing cabs, but she couldn’t help but smile as she entered through the doors of her house, impatient to see her family whom she hadn’t seen in a while, again ignoring the fact that they weren’t related to her by blood. They were the only family she had ever known, and moreover...her real family obviously didn’t want her or why else would they have tossed her away.
"Mum! Sarah! Oliver!" she shouted the second she entered the house, beyond excited to hear footsteps right before all the members of her family walked into the living room where she was.
"Vio-Violet!" her mum gasped with a completely shocked expression on her face, one that was mirrored on the faces of every single other person there, right from her father Luke to Sarah and Oliver, her siblings.
"We-we thought you had abandoned us!" her mother continued, even as tears began to slide down her face when the shock wore off. But while her mother cried and hugged her, the others had a different feeling as they looked at her almost in a cold manner—so cold that they couldn’t even bring themselves to show excitement at her return.
"What are you doing here? Today isn’t your off day!" Luke, her father, began in a tone that made Violet glare at him as she hugged her mother in return.
"Father is right! We-we heard that the Lord killed everyone!" Sarah gasped in a low voice, her eyes scurrying around with worry, almost like she was expecting people to burst into their homes at any second.
"Violet! Why are you here? Did you bring the money? You could have just sent it!" Oliver also said when he opened his mouth to speak, which made Violet shake her head as she turned to look at her siblings, completely ignoring her father as she spoke.
"...It’s nice to see you too! What? I don’t even get a hug?" she asked them, satisfied to see them immediately move closer to do so, even if Sarah’s eyes were fixed more on the bag she carried than her face.
"What’s in the bag?" Sarah asked, even before she had completely pulled away from the hug.
"I took it!" Violet honestly responded, knowing better than to hide the seriousness of the issue from them since they would be involved in whatever happened going forward.
"Wha-what?" Sarah and her mother gasped, and even Luke was flabbergasted, looking at Violet like she had gone mad, even as Oliver was the only one that found the proper words to explain what she meant. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
"You-stole it!" he gasped, even as Violet nodded her head and began to hurriedly explain with an anxious look on her face, worried that her family might not understand.
"He killed everyone! Most of them are dead. If I stayed...I would die sooner than later!" she responded, eyes pleading, begging them to understand. She knew she was putting them in a difficult situation, but there was no other choice left for her. The more she waited for them to show that they understood, the darker their expressions became.
