Chapter 166: Escaping?

The second Cain stepped out, the first thing he did was try to settle the expression on his face as he adjusted his shirt and pants to ensure that nothing was amiss. Ignoring Frank, who stood by the door waiting for him, Cain headed right past him towards the stairs.

Apart from the bow Frank offered the second he saw Cain step out, he didn’t open his mouth to speak as he followed behind Cain without attempting to strike up a conversation, knowing better than to do so after catching a hint of anger on Cain’s face as he stepped out. Know your place, Frank! he thought to himself, aware that all he had to do was diligently serve and nothing more.

With Frank walking behind him, the servants around them parted to make way the moment Cain remotely came close to them, bowing their heads to show their respect as he walked past. Cain didn’t spare them a glance, almost as though their entire existence wasn’t worth noting, as he headed out the main entrance of the mansion.

Right towards where the cars had been parked. Cain had no intention of leaving Violet by herself and would have gone ahead to completely turn down the requests of the letter if he hadn’t been slightly worried about what the consequences would be. Falling out with his uncle Eldric was something that was bound to happen, but doing so at the right time was the only way he wouldn’t be affected.

With the massacre he had committed, it was a lot to think that the council would ignore, which meant that to keep his district, he still needed Eldric’s help. I just need to find Fiona and nothing more! he thought to himself, even as he headed towards the parked cars in the driveway and the drivers and bodyguards who were already waiting for him.

With a mostly stony expression on his face, he had just pulled the door handle of the car he would be entering open, ignoring the bodyguard that ran to do it only to do it first. Turning around, he fixed his gaze on Frank, who stood behind him in his black uniform, a gun holster by his waist, prepared to enter the car right behind Cain.

"You won’t be coming with me!" Cain told him, to Frank’s complete and utter shock, which he barely managed to conceal as he immediately bowed his head to show that he understood the order. He heard Cain continue to speak.

"I shouldn’t take long, but in the meantime...you’ll remain here!" he informed Frank, who continued to nod his head to show that he understood, stamping down the urge to ask for the reason unless Cain decided to give one. He heard Cain lower his voice as he spoke to him.

"Watch Violet! If he tries to escape, let him!" he said, uttering words that completely astounded Frank. It was almost unnoticeable, but it was still clear to him just how much Cain liked his lover, considering the fact that if not for Violet, he would have already been dead...and beast food.

"To confirm..." he found himself opening his mouth to say, "...If he wants to leave the moment you’re gone, I should let him?" Frank asked, making sure that he wouldn’t make a mistake and do the wrong thing, which would, of course, immediately get him killed.

"Yes!" Cain replied, already turning around to enter the black-tinted car through the door he had pulled open when Frank hurriedly continued to speak with a trace of confusion on his face.

"Should I track his movements?" Frank asked, finding it hard to believe that Cain would suddenly let him go. Only to watch Cain get into the car, the expression on his face colder and crueler than usual, as a hint of a nasty smile flashed across his face.

"Follow from afar. Just you! But unless he’s about to die...don’t step in!" Cain ordered, slamming the car door after him the second he was done speaking. The car took a couple of seconds before it was fired up and drove away, along with the entourage of cars that housed the bodyguards Cain would be taking with him. He had already gotten clues to Fiona’s whereabouts, and all he had to do was find her and send her back to her father.

As long as it’s a peaceful affair! he thought to himself. His body felt much better, and just like before, the connection with his beast was much stronger, which meant that his body was also more resilient. But that didn’t mean he had any desire to fight on Fiona’s behalf. If something has happened to her, then Eldric should take care of it! he thought to himself as he stared at the environment, leaning his elbow against the door as the car increased speed and zoomed towards the center of his district.

Back in the mansion, Violet had taken the first ten minutes to sit back on the bed and make sure Cain wasn’t coming back before jumping off the bed to vigorously look around the room, searching for whatever she could find that looked remotely valuable. With enough money...I can disappear and might even be able to live a good life! she thought to herself, knowing that it was something that couldn’t happen if she continued to stay close to Cain.

For all she knew, he might suddenly decide to take her life anytime he saw the need to. He might treat her better, but she knew that, unlike the rest, she was still a prisoner, but simply one with a longer chain.

Stamping down the memories that threatened to overflow her senses, ones filled with pleasure anytime she thought about him, Violet instead concentrated on taking as much as she could in the bag she carried until she could find nothing else. His watches and rings were taken, and even cufflinks that looked like they had been made from gold were promptly taken before she finally headed out the door.

She still looked every bit like a man but one with slightly longer hair that reached her nape, her violet eyes blinking rapidly as she did her best to settle her racing heart as she slowly made her way down the stairs with the bag on her shoulder.

Act normal, Violet! Just act normal! she mumbled to herself, ignoring everyone else as she headed out and towards the gate. Taking the car was something she could have done since the elite guards belonging to Frank knew who she was, but at the same time, she knew it would be easy for Cain to track her down.

I’ll have to move my parents away the second I get home! she thought to herself as she got to the gates, raising her head and straightening her shoulders without showing any iota of fear as she opened her mouth to speak. "I’m going for a stroll..." she began, but she wasn’t done speaking when one of the guards immediately interrupted with a huge frown and visible anger in his eyes.

Of course, he knew who Violet was, and at the same time, he knew just why most of the people he knew had been killed overnight. "Get back in! You’re not going anywhere without the Lord’s permission!" Aware that if something happened to the Lord’s lover or he went missing again, it would be his head in the noose. And until he found a better job, he had no intention of allowing that to happen.

But Violet had just jerked back in shock, about to open her mouth and insist, when she heard a familiar voice. Turning around, she saw Frank, whom she had assumed had gone with Cain, standing a few feet behind her, speak, "Let him go! It’s just a stroll!"

But he had just spoken when Violet heard warning bells ring in her head, her mouth dropping open since Frank was the last person she expected to hear something like that from.
