Mated to the Mad Lord-Chapter 344: Mad
Eldric sat calmly in his office with his eyes fixed on the blue sky outside. Everything was serene. The servants went about their day and everything seemed to be going well.
All except something in Eldric’s gut that told him that something somewhere was amiss, he just couldn’t see it.
Sometimes he would glance at the paperwork on his table before glancing away to glance back through the large open windows of his office at the topmost floor of his mansion. The sunlight filtered in through the sheer curtains, illuminating the polished mahogany furniture and casting faint golden streaks across the floor. Everything looked perfect — yet that very perfection made the unease in his chest twist even tighter.
Soon he could no longer remain seated as he slowly got on his feet intending to pour himself a drink. His chair creaked softly as he pushed it back, the air heavy with the scent of old wood and ink.
’Wine.’ It was too early for anything harder, even though it was close to impossible for him to get drunk from a cup or two since he was a Werewolf.
Slowly, he moved towards the wine bar, picking a bottle — one of the ones he stored for emergency — and going ahead to open it with a slight smile on his face. The cork popped softly, echoing faintly in the quiet room.
’William was easy to get rid of... and his baby is a matter of time!’ he thought to himself, aware that if by some miracle the baby still lived, it was going to be his grandchild.
’All I have to do is get rid of Fervor. Fiona is too broken to ever be a problem!’ Something he was content with, confident that he had indoctrinated her with ideas that she wouldn’t deviate from regardless of how angry she was. He had broken her spirit carefully — methodically — until even her fury served his cause.
’What more! As long as I can get her a cure for her nasty scars. What can I not get her to do for me!’ he thought to himself, since that had always been the plan since he found out that William had taken Fiona, thinking he wouldn’t attack him because of that.
"The fool!" Eldric muttered out loud as he went ahead and took a long sip out of the glass cup he had poured for himself, a satisfied smile curling on his lips as he looked around his office. The dark shelves lined with scrolls and ledgers stood like silent witnesses to his triumphs.
He even went ahead to close his eyes almost as if he was savoring the taste in his mouth, but his lips were still spreading apart in a smile when he suddenly froze — almost like he had recalled something bitter that he would rather forget about.
’Lady June!’ he thought with a slight frown on his face as he stared at the empty air in front of him.
She had been supposed to show up as per their agreement to ensure that they were on the same page, but not only had she not shown up, Cain, his nephew, was still very much alive.
’How much longer does she need to cultivate his heart before I have to rip it out of his chest!’ he thought, his jaw tightening. Cain was a thorn in his flesh and would continue to be one as long as he was alive.
Just like his brother had been before he had him killed. A sneer spread across his face as he took a longer sip of the wine in his cup, trying to push the annoyance he felt to the deepest part of his belly.
His thoughts strayed over to what he had to do the most, which was to kill Fervor and Cain and get their territory. He was aware that Lord Bernard, who was old and recovering, wouldn’t recover — since he was the reason he had fallen sick.
’Lady Bella is controllable, especially with her many secrets!’ he thought to himself with a proud smile, aware that as long as he eliminated the lords that would be problematic to him and replaced them with ones he could control, then he would have no problem being KING.
The more he thought about it, the more satisfied he was about the conclusions he came to, beaming at himself for how smart and cautious he had been.
Patient too, since with Lady June’s help, getting rid of the vampires one after the other wouldn’t be a big problem.
’It would have been even better if Cain had been able to kill more apart from just Masdaw!’ he mused, aware that the vampire’s bloodline abilities were a trump card that each of the lords possessed — dangerous, but also valuable if turned to his advantage.
He took more sips from his cup, downing it in one gulp before placing the glass cup back on the table and storing away the bottle just before he got to his feet, prepared to leave. The wine left a faint burn in his throat, but it did little to ease the restless energy that now hummed through him.
Lady June was someone he couldn’t go looking for, but he didn’t have to, as he picked up his phone and began to send messages to the other lords one after the other for a meeting — including to Lord Cain.
But he had just gotten to the door, pulling it open, only to be surprised to see his head of guards standing there, bowing the instant his gaze fell on Eldric’s own.
The man went as far as to fall to his knees the second he realized that it was Eldric standing there.
"You have something to report?" Eldric asked, his voice low but commanding, even as the man nodded his head, still on his knees.
"It’s about Lord Cain! You asked me to report anything that happens close to him. After we sent as many as we could to watch his movements!"
"Okay! What did you find out?"
"He transformed last night and his wolf growls echoed all night through the city. There are huge rumors that the woman he had been with for a while suddenly disappeared and he had been unable to find her!"
"A woman?" Eldric asked, his mind instantly going to the one called ’Violet,’ whom he had previously considered offering money to bring her over to his side and convince her to work for him.
"Have you confirmed that she indeed went missing?" Eldric asked, even as his guard gently shook his head, his head still slightly bowed.
"Not yet! We’ve had problems doing that!" he said, even as Eldric muttered angrily under his breath.
’Useless!’ A deep frown creased his face as he went ahead to continue typing on his phone, sending reminders to all the lords for the monthly meetings that held in his district.
’But it’s good to know that he’s mentally unstable! Any more and I might have a way to get the others to go to war against him!’ Even though he doubted it, since Cain was strong... much stronger than he himself would like to admit.
Who would want to face him, knowing that meeting him would turn into eventual death?
"Continue paying close attention to him! Also find the girl. I want her before he gets her!" he told his head of guards in a gruff voice, who instantly nodded his head vigorously to show that he understood what he was trying to say and would carry out his instructions.
It was morning, and although vampires had issues stepping out under the sun, it was much easier in their district since there had been weather-generating technology that had helped them figure out easier ways to obstruct the sun.
As long as they wore huge cloaks that fully covered, most days — unless they chose to sleep — they could go about their usual days. Hence the reason why humans flocked to the cities, since there were more jobs for them compared to other Werewolf districts.
Vazer sat at the dining room with Tinari beside him, and although he seemed to be eating — food they could eat but not taste — except it was drenched in blood.
Tinari sat there paler than usual, a jittery expression on her face. Her fingers tapped the table and her legs rocked back and forth, almost like she didn’t care about anything else in the world except sprinting up from the table and heading out. The crimson tint on her lips and the faint stain of blood at the corner of her mouth only deepened the eerie air around her.
Vazer had a sober expression even as he focused his gaze on her, watching her drain her cup, which was filled with blood, and go ahead and fill it before draining it again.
Clearly, it was obvious that there was a big problem — one that wasn’t hard to see — which stemmed from the trauma she had gone through.
He had fed her more blood than usual to make her body recover, considering the fact that her head had been separated from her body for too long and the rest of her body had also been badly damaged.
Heart thrust through with a stake. It could even be said that it was a vampire miracle that she was still alive.
So it hadn’t been too surprising when it became clear that she had blood lust — a complete addiction to blood even when the body didn’t need it — so much so that the body starts to pretend and act like it did.
’She has been fed, but her skin looks pale like it hadn’t! She would become stronger, but it was also a fact that she would become much crazier with every day that went by, losing herself to the pleasure of drinking since that would be all her brain knew.’
The longer Vazer stared at her, the longer he could not take his eyes away from his one and only living family member. Recalling how pure she had been before Javi had killed the rest of his family.
Vazer looked calm, but under his red eyes was a fury that threatened to blot out the world and everyone in it.
"Brother! I’ve had enough! Can I leave now?" she asked in the tiny soft voice he knew of. "I want to go to the slave center!" she asked, aware that that was where she had been going recently, and Vazer slowly nodded with no intention of stopping her.
A soft, sad smile appeared on his face as he watched her beam, flinging herself at him, wrapping her arms around him before dashing away with the speed of light.
His fists clenched together, aware that a time would come when she might not even recognize him enough to call him ’Brother,’ and that...
That made him MAD.
