Mercenary God: Reborn with a talent for fighting.-Chapter 40: Ch Even
Dragged from the skies via his hold on the rope, Alex’s expression shifted slightly, blood trickling down his cheek.
At the speed at which he was falling, he would crash right into Selena, and when he was within her grasp, victory would be stolen.
So he abandoned his weapon and hauled himself at her sword.
Grabbing it off the ground and running at Selena, who spun to gather momentum before launching the spike of the rope dart at him, he groaned, moving the sword to intercept the spike in a clean cut.
His parry, effective, clashed into the spike, causing it to bounce back into the air.
For a moment, Selena lost her hold on the dart rope.
It wasn’t a weapon she was adept with; hence, she only focused on imitating what Alex had done.
Raising one leg over the rope and slipping it underneath, she coiled it around her leg, then drove that leg down, pulling the spike down at Alex.
He sidestepped, but Selena kicked the air to the side, navigating the spike to pursue.
Leaping back as the spike veered past him, he ended up knocking it aside.
It snapped back in rapid precision, not at his hands but at the hilt of his blade.
The rope then looped twice around the blade, and Selena grinned.
"Gotcha."
Selena planted her feet and pulled, a sharp and powerful jerk to rip the hilt from his grasp.
Felix didn’t resist; he surged forward with the force.
"My weapon... my rules."
Entering her range, his right knee was pivoted forward to knock her side.
Selena, releasing one hand from the rope dart, guarded it.
Alex then used her now weakened hold to grasp a part of the rope, then tieing it around his palms, pulled her toward him.
She stumbled, drawing in the spike in a reverse grip as she came at him with a swing.
Alex ducked, releasing his hold on the sword while his now empty hand shot upwards, knocking Selena’s hand in the air.
The impact also released the spike from her grasp as it was flung into the air.
Alex then swept her off her feet, sending her to the ground as he catch the falling spike and pushed it down at her gut.
Moving in time to stop him, she grabbed his wrist, her expression tensed as she tried preventing the spike from piercing her deep enough.
Selena’s breath hitched, feeling the cold steel against her skin.
Alex’s weight was behind it, the continuous application of pressure driving the dagger deeper and deeper through her shirt and into her skin.
Her arms trembled, her desperate attempt to halt his attack growing weaker by the second.
Realizing she couldn’t stop it, she made a sacrifice. Pushing her left palm under the spike, she allowed it to pierce it, then with a powerful growl, she drove her impaled palm through the spike.
Blood splattered, scattering across her body and spraying into the air.
Some ended up caught in Alex’s field of vision, distracting him long enough for her to grab hold of his fist, lock his legs in place, and flip him over, now on top of him.
She then clenched her right fist and sent a punch down at him.
Alex quickly tilted his head, narrowly missing the punch that carved a fractured hole in the ground beside his head.
Pulling back her bruised knuckles, with fragments of stone jammed within them, she groaned and punched again.
Alex dodged once more, twisted the rope still in his grasp, and yanked the spike out of her left hand.
Selena bit her lip and quickly rolled to the side as it spike snapped at her.
Clenching her wounded palm, she further rolled until she was a fair distance away and stood up. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Alex, his expression worn out, tossed the dart rope aside and took a hand-to-hand combat stance.
His center of gravity was lowered, his heel raised while his fists clenched and ready.
Selena, with the injury to her hand, could no longer wield her longsword either, but a punch she could throw. Hence, she imitated him, and shortly after, the two lunged at each other.
Alex began with a light but swift jab with his left hand.
Selena veered to the side, watching as the fist snapped past her before she pushed her head back just as another punch from his right hand was thrown.
Stepping back slightly, she followed with a side kick at his ankle.
Alex dodged, but she pursued, her right fist lashing out like a whip.
Using rigid and swift footwork, Alex maneuvered through her attacks.
Punches he blocked, kicks he dodged, and tackles he retaliated.
There wasn’t a time where Selena had him beat.
The more they fought, the more the crowd concluded.
It wasn’t just that he was faster—no, he was stronger and more agile. That was until a crack was shown.
Alex had just countered a strike from her attack by altering the trajectory of her blow with his palms, and just as he was about to counter, his body convulsed and blood splattered out of his nose.
Selena blinked, but this chance was the only way she could attain victory. So pulling in her all at this once-in-a-lifetime chance, she stepped fully into his range, her fist surging with explosive aura, all accumulating into a volume of mass that crashed into Alex’s side and launched him back.
An explosive boom echoed, and his body slammed hard into the barrier, then slid down to the ground unconscious.

"Oh!"
A dead silence filled the coliseum at such an anticlimactic finally.
A minute ago, they saw how the black sheep of the family dominated the clash and was claiming victory by the second, but just a single opening broke his rhythm, and he now lay unconscious on the ground—having lost the battle.
Shock, disappointment, and so much negativity spread through the arena.
"I guess that was his limit."
At the top of the coliseum, Abel sighed and held his aching heart.
Victory had almost been in their grasp, but his brother couldn’t handle the burden.
He wasn’t mad... just saddened.
And yet, somewhere, he was proud.
"You did great."
Just as he proclaimed it, his eyes widened as an impossible sight took place.
