Chapter 2106: Chapter 2083: You Should Leave

After several transfers, they arrived in Ukraine, still disembarking in Kiev, then Gao Yang and the three others began heading to Donetsk.

Now, doing anything in Ukraine is incredibly easy for Gao Yang. He truly has a foothold in both the underworld and official circles, with influence reaching from earth to sky, obtaining from Poloneshenko a special pass that won’t face any obstacles nationwide. Shava sends transport until they reach the militia’s territory, finally handing over to the Angel Mercenary Corps, allowing Gao Yang and company to travel soundly across Ukraine even with their eyes closed.

To meet Nate, one must schedule the time in advance—it’s not because Nate is grandstanding, it’s simply that without a prior arrangement, who knows where Nate might be.

Now Nate’s situation is quite different from before; he has troops when he wants them, artillery when he needs it, his force isn’t the largest in Ukraine, but his is certainly the most potent. Except for lacking money, Nate is wanting nothing.

Yet when Gao Yang saw Nate again, Nate appeared deeply troubled, lacking the vigor one would expect after expanding his influence, and instead seemed worn out.

But despite Nate’s weariness, his appearance remained immaculate and commanding.

"Sit, coffee."

Nate seemed to have little else to offer Gao Yang in hospitality; while the Angel’s command center was tightly defended and impenetrable, the living conditions were unimpressive, with commendable security but only average comfort.

Sitting across from Nate, Gao Yang took a cup, waiting for the Wizard to fill it with coffee, then smiled at Nate, saying, "You look quite stressed, why?"

Nate was silent for a moment before sighing, shaking his head: "Because of those damned Russian Guys!"

Gao Yang tossed in two sugar cubes, asking in surprise: "Russians? What about the Russians?"

Nate spoke softly: "You can’t trust Russians, don’t you understand?"

Gao Yang rubbed his chin, chuckling: "I think Russians are alright. I’ve been dealing with them recently." 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Nate spoke impatiently: "Those damned Russian Guys are never to be trusted."

Gao Yang thought Russians were decent; Grand Ivan’s group was mostly Russians, the Black Demon wasn’t Russian but was a Soviet person; most importantly, Glolov was Russian. Gao Yang’s girlfriend Yelena was Russian, and that was crucial.

Seeing Gao Yang furrow his brows, Nate shook his head: "Alright, let me specify. If it’s just a few individual Russians, that’s fine, but the Russian Government absolutely cannot be trusted."

Gao Yang laughed: "You should have said so earlier. Of course you can’t deal with the Russian Government; they are notoriously unreliable. Look at how horribly India got swindled; Russia is a strange nation, with upper-level bigshots known for being capricious, while the lower-level small people are straightforward."

Nate shook his head, helplessly: "Every country is like this, but Russia is too much."

Gao Yang wondered: "Why such a lament over Russian credibility? Oh, I get it; you’ve caught the attention of the Russian Government!"

Nate nodded, speaking solemnly: "Just less than an hour before you arrived, I had just sent away a Russian emissary."

Gao Yang clapped lightly, smiling bitterly: "Indeed, it was inevitable, given your current power, it’s natural to attract Russia’s attention."

Nate spoke quietly: "The Russian Government promised to provide me with equipment and supplies, even clandestine intelligence support. Most importantly, they pledged experienced fighters and junior officers, as long as I agree to cooperate with them, logistics would no longer be a concern, nor would a shortage of ground-level officers."

Gao Yang frowned: "Certainly tempting, but you can’t agree."

Nate took a sip of coffee, resolutely: "Of course I know I can’t agree. The Russians have expanded from a corner of Eastern Europe and Kievan Rus into the vast Russian state over centuries, but when have they ever kept their promise? Russians are not only untrustworthy, but their ambition and control are too strong. After hundreds of years, I’d be foolish not to know what Russians are about."

Setting down his coffee, Nate looked at Gao Yang with disdain: "Russian soldiers are good soldiers, but the Russian Government is absolutely off limits. No matter how pleasant they sound, the problem for me is serious right now. Accepting Russian support means all we’ve worked for will end up benefiting them. But if we don’t accept, other militia groups could soon surpass us, no matter how strong we currently seem. Once Russia gets involved in a major way, our advantages will quickly diminish."

Gao Yang shrugged: "In this matter, I really can’t help."

Nate said: "Didn’t expect help from you either; nobody can help in this. I’m just angry, and I’ve already made my decision. No matter the offer, I’ll never cooperate with the Russian Government. Their promises are never fulfilled; their sweet deals are poison. Historically, the Russian Government is synonymous with betrayal."

Gao Yang spoke softly: "Let’s just abandon it, shall we? You can’t really fight a major power. If Russians consider you a threat, they might directly target you; supporting rival factions or even waging war against you is not impossible."

Nate sighed: "We’ll see how it goes. Currently, total control over Eastern Ukraine is out of reach. The best outcome would be to effectively control Donetsk Oblast. It’s extremely difficult, but I won’t give up, ever."

After that, Nate waved his hand, smiling: "I wouldn’t say this to anyone else, but just chatting with you. Don’t take it to heart. So, what brings you here? Don’t tell me it’s only for coffee."

Gao Yang chuckled: "Of course, I have business; I’ve acquired a new sniper, quite excellent. I need to place her here, let her feel the war."

Nate said dismissively: "Can’t just be that. Experiencing war doesn’t warrant personally bringing her here; is there a problem with her?"

Gao Yang laughed: "A slight background issue; so don’t engage with her. Just let her fight alongside the soldiers. But for another woman, take extra care—she’s Rabbit’s girlfriend. Just help ensure she stays alive."

Nate frowned: "Is that all?"

Gao Yang coughed lightly: "Of course there’s more; uh, lend me an Artillery Company. I just need people, not guns."

Nate rolled his eyes at Gao Yang, giving him a once-over, then smiled slightly: "I get it. Look after two ladies, right? Got it. This coffee is good; finish it and be on your way."
