Miss Witch's Devotion Has Gone… Twisted-Chapter 219: A New Case
"You... holy shit..."
Movila was a pure rookie. The moment Loren started talking, she rushed forward to bite and tear, with no technique at all, relying purely on combat instinct.
"Not those two!"
Even at this critical moment, Loren still maintained his bottom line. He pointed at the two smallest ones and shouted.
"Understood, Master."
Although that was the response, those two smallest Movilas still didn't withdraw from the battlefield. Instead, they started playing a support role, with the teenage girl and the mature woman Movilas acting as the main damage dealers.
...
"Good morning, Master."
At noon the next day, Mirrorheart entered Loren's room, woke him up, and incidentally helped clean up the mess all over the floor. Several Movilas were still lying beside Loren.
"Good morning."
Loren was used to it by now. Even being stark naked with Mirrorheart at such an awkward moment didn't make him feel embarrassed.
Loren got dressed and woke up the Movilas as well.
The other Movilas all turned into crows, leaving only one loli to follow Loren out of the room and to the dining table.
While eating, Loren saw Mirrorheart carrying the tattered and torn bedsheets into her own room. Loren was quite certain the laundry room wasn't in that direction.
Having known Mirrorheart for so long, it wasn't strange that she could do such a thing. Loren continued eating peacefully.
"Master Mentor, I'd like to go home for a while."
During the meal, Luna suddenly announced she wanted to return home. This was the result of her deep contemplation yesterday. Her lifelong matter needed to be discussed with her parents first.
However, she felt her parents definitely wouldn't object, at most they might question whether she was truly worthy of Loren.
This wasn't due to her parents' discouraging style of education. They were commoners from the lower class. Aiming too high wasn't a good thing. Being a bit insecure was better than accidentally offending someone they couldn't afford to provoke.
"Do you need us to escort you?"
Since meeting Loren, Luna had spent more time with him than with her own parents. Loren thought it was normal for her to want to go back, and there weren't any dangers right now, with the Pseudohumans already dealt with.
With the Abyssal Gaze Eye and Movila's crows, even if Luna encountered any danger, Loren could react immediately.
"No need to trouble you..."
Luna was afraid that if Loren really came along, she'd be too embarrassed to have a heart-to-heart talk with her parents.
"Alright."
Loren had originally considered having the Church send a few nuns to escort her, but on second thought, he decided against it, since Luna was still a witch.
Now that Loren held immense power at court, even if she were truly exposed, at worst she'd just need to change her appearance, and could even continue appearing by Loren's side. However, Loren still intended to be cautious.
Luna left, and Loren continued his daily life. Recently, there hadn't been much movement from Gwen's side either. The high-level interest exchange between the two sides was almost complete, and it was about time for the ceasefire.
The Bardo Kingdom had already fought its way to the Royal Capital of the Canaan Kingdom. Up until now, only unimportant commoners had died. If they truly advanced further, threatening the safety of the Nobles and Royals, then it would become a fight to the death.
So the King of Bardo had grasped this limit well and only now began negotiations.
There had been no warfare for the past few days, and Gwen was also on her way back.
With Scarlett not around, what Gwen could bring back was limited. So Gwen only brought the Ten Thousand Soul Banner and some precious items, leaving most of the other things in the properties within the Bardo Kingdom.
It was just as Gwen was traveling back that a nun arrived at Loren's doorstep and knocked on the door.
"..."
Seeing the nun's otherworldly appearance, Loren was momentarily dazed. He had been living a blissful life at home these past few days, and the witches were too pleasing to the eye, to the point that Loren had almost forgotten the insane underlying nature of this world.
"What happened now? How many died?"
For minor matters, the Church basically wouldn't bother Loren, even if a few people died. A big shot like Loren shouldn't be disturbed casually.
Previously, Loren had said they could come to him if anything happened. Loren said that, but if they actually did it, that would be considered lacking tact.
"People have been dying these past few days, more than a dozen in total. The Church hasn't been able to figure out the cause."
"Take me to see."
Being idle was just being idle. Loren decided to go investigate a case while he was at it, cosplaying as Sherlock for old time's sake.
"Alright, please follow me."
Once Loren decided to set out, only two words were in the nun's mind... "It's settled."
Since Loren became famous, there hasn't been anything Loren couldn't solve.
The previous battle with the Pseudohumans didn't cause much damage. In fact, most of the destruction was caused by Loren himself, so repairs were completed within a few days.
The nun led Loren to the Church. The corpses were stored in the basement.
These corpses had already turned into mummies, so there was no need to worry about decay. They were just casually placed here.
"Master Mentor!"
Everyone in the Church, from nuns to bishops, greeted Loren one by one. The newly appointed bishop eagerly followed behind Loren.
"The position of Bishop is quite dangerous. Two have died in half a year."
Loren casually remarked, and the bishop could only smile and agree.
He was essentially pushed into the role. With so many incidents happening recently, there weren't many spare hands available, not just in the Gedlan Kingdom, but even in the Nofica Theocracy.
So his duty was very clear: to please the Master Mentor and keep him comfortable.
Loren didn't pay much attention to the bishop, squatting down on his own to examine the corpses.
These corpses had many bite marks. Judging by the gaps, the perpetrator's mouth size was similar to a human's, just that the bite patterns were somewhat different.
The bitten areas were random, mostly on exposed skin, but there was one very consistent location: the neck. Every corpse had bite marks on the neck, and they were all on the artery. It seemed the perpetrator used this method to drain the blood.
"Have you discovered anything?"
Seeing Loren deep in thought, the bishop quickly asked.
"The fatal wounds are all on the neck. The perpetrator drained the blood while biting the victim's neck."
"This makes the wounds elsewhere seem completely unnecessary. Moreover, there isn't much blood around the bite marks in other locations."
After observing for a while, Loren had already discovered this many issues. The bishop felt genuine admiration from the bottom of his heart, but before he could continue with the flattery, Loren revealed the perpetrator's identity:
"The perpetrator is a vampire. Many perpetrators have a misconception: they always like to use various complex methods to hide their modus operandi. But the more they do this, the more information they inadvertently reveal."
"For example, we can deduce from this that this vampire isn't very strong, which is why he needs to work so hard to conceal his identity. If his vampire identity were exposed, even a few ordinary people could probably kill him using items that counter vampires."
