Miss Witch's Devotion Has Gone… Twisted-Chapter 220: Vampires
"Vampires? Aren't they supposed to be under the God of Night and Thunder's domain? Why would they come here?"
Looking at the corpses, the Bishop began to lose his composure, then complained:
"And vampires can really suck people so dry, huh? I always thought they were so elegant..."
"Because hunting opportunities are rare, they cherish each feeding chance.
"Vampires have strong regenerative abilities, but they need a huge amount of blood."
Thinking of this, Loren suddenly realized just how overpowered the witches' mechanism was.
Anna could also heal herself using other people's blood, and her efficiency was nearly a hundred times that of a vampire.
"Therefore, something must have gone wrong on the God of Night and Thunder's side. A vampire severely wounded himself and fled here, trying to take every opportunity to recover."
Loren had already analyzed the situation. The threat was small, and it didn't require Loren to intervene directly.
The purer a vampire's bloodline, the stronger they are. Vampires have ranks, and the higher the rank, the purer the bloodline.
For example, the highest rank is Prince, with the rest ordered like dukes, marquises, earls, viscounts, and barons. Loren guessed the vampire who showed up here was probably a common vampire without any rank.
"A vampire only needs a bite to feed, usually leaving just a tooth mark. He made it look like this to frame someone.
"All right, that's as far as my analysis goes."
At this moment the Bishop's eyes were full of admiration. With just one glance Loren could deduce even the killer's underwear—he finally understood what the honorific Master Mentor truly meant.
"So how should we catch him?"
The Bishop asked, planning to obey Loren's orders outright.
"Vampires die in sunlight, so he can only operate at night. Right now he's probably hiding in some dark corner. The fact that incidents have been happening for days means he hasn't left this area.
"I suggest you send people to search places that block light, especially coffins in the graveyard. If you don't find him, stake out at night. He will most certainly strike again."
"Understood!"
The Bishop immediately felt relieved. Having Loren as a leader was wonderful—everything was arranged clearly; all they needed to do was follow orders blindly without thinking.
Compared to Loren, the Bishop's previous leaders had been garbage—clueless, bossy, and always shifting blame and responsibility onto him.
"We'll move out now!"
"Good. Remember to capture him alive. I want to interrogate him. I suspect something has gone wrong over at the God of Night and Thunder's domain.
"Also, you could publicize this so people carry silverware when they travel..."
As soon as he said this, Loren sensed something off. Where would commoners get silverware? They didn't even have many silver coins.
"Forget I said that. You could hire demon hunters experienced with vampires; they know what to do."
Although vampires are affiliated with the God of Night and Thunder, they still lack human rights. Even if a human killed them, it wouldn't be illegal. The Church's protection only meant the Church wouldn't hunt them down.
If a special race didn't affiliate with any god, their prospects were bleak—like the merfolk deep in the ocean or the elves in remote forests.
Still, humans and vampires generally coexisted fairly harmoniously. The reason was simple: vampires were strong, and ordinary humans couldn't compete. On the other hand, vampires also marketed themselves well; leaders in many fields were vampires. They packaged themselves as refined individuals, and many who had never seen vampires instinctively liked them—like the students Loren had once taught at the Gedlan Royal Magic Academy.
So a lot of people willingly let vampires feed on them, becoming their blood servants.
After receiving Loren's orders, the Bishop acted at top speed. He first arranged for Church members to search likely vampire hideouts, then sought demon hunters, and finally personally escorted Loren home.
"What happened?"
Back home, the others immediately began asking. This time Loren had gone out alone.
"A vampire came here."
Loren thought things over. In theory, vampires shouldn't come into the God of Bountiful Harvest's territory; sunlight is their deadliest weakness. In the God of Night and Thunder's domain there is no daytime, so vampires can avoid that weakness entirely.
Other places lack that condition. Maybe they operate by day-hiding at night, but accidents happen. If one night a vampire drank too much and didn't return before sunrise, they could end up dying here.
Besides, the God of Night and Thunder's domain had many vampire-friendly facilities. High-ranking vampires treated common vampires well, and there were shops that sold blood.
Here, you had to kill to feed, so the vampire who ended up here must have been forced into it.
Loren reviewed vampire-related knowledge and found it scarce. Even when he later intended to confront the God of Night and Thunder, vampires hadn't reacted much.
The only clear impressions he had were that little half-vampire girl and the Princes.
Most vampires were female; all the Princes were female, and they were quite attractive...
"Write Cecelia a letter. She's over there right now."
Loren took out an envelope and began to write. He also hoped to probe the situation elsewhere; if vampires had come out, Gedlan wouldn't be the only place affected. Similar incidents should appear in other regions.
When Loren finished the letter and planned to go post it, Church members arrived:
"Master Mentor, the vampire you mentioned has been captured."
"Already?"
With Loren's orders, the Church's efficiency had clearly improved, but Loren hadn't expected it to be this fast. He'd barely finished wondering how to deal with vampires when they were already caught.
"Take me there."
"Yes."
Walking along, Loren asked about the details:
"Where did you catch the vampire?"
"In the graveyard. We found a secret passage in the grass beside a tomb. After opening that grave, we found the vampire. When we lifted the coffin his body had been partially burned."
"I see."
This vampire had been cautious. A typical vampire might hide in a basement for the sake of appearances, but this one had crawled into a grave. If Loren hadn't emphasized searching the graveyard, the Church might not have found him.
The Church took Loren to the dungeon; he'd come here before during the interrogation of the Rainbow Plague patient.
"Master Mentor!"
The guard saluted Loren, and Loren nodded in response—reputation +1.
"We're here."
Loren reached the cell door. Inside, a person whose body had been half-burned was tied up. For a moment Loren couldn't even tell the person's gender.
