Miss Witch's Devotion Has Gone… Twisted-Chapter 229: The Bloodline Rebels
Since arriving in the Uridia Kingdom, Movila's crows had been constantly scouring the area, but they hadn't found anything particularly useful.
Especially in the area Loren had sketched out, Movila had been keeping an almost constant watch, yet there were still no discoveries.
For Loren and the others to search themselves wouldn't be of much use either; all they could do was ask the people in the surrounding area.
Loren roughly narrowed down the area. Based on descriptions from the dessert shop staff, Lilith seemed quite wealthy and dressed very elegantly, so Loren focused his search on the affluent districts.
Initially, the people here were unwilling to answer Loren's questions. They were aware of the recent events and didn't want to get involved in the mess. But under the power of Loren's money, they ended up telling him everything they knew.
People here had indeed seen Lilith, but it was still of little use. They had only seen Lilith passing by a few weeks ago and had no idea where she was now.
In the end, Loren just went back to the same few dessert shops from yesterday to buy some food before heading home. These were the shops Anna had screened as the most delicious, and they were also places Lilith visited frequently.
"Still no real leads..."
Loren looked at the newspapers from the past few days, feeling somewhat troubled.
Anna leaned against Loren, feeding him bites of dessert from time to time.
"The Bloodline Rebels threaten the safety of the Uridia Kingdom; everyone should resist them.
"Count of the Bloodline personally takes the field, annihilating a group of rebels; the rebels are now cornered.
"Monster Hunters have reached a cooperation with the Bloodline Rebels; Monster Hunters have also become a danger to societal safety.
"The Bloodline Rebels have utilized the power of the Church of Light and Fire, betraying the Church of Night and Thunder."
The newspaper was utterly devoid of substance. Loren glanced at it a few times before tossing it aside.
"The bias is so strong..."
These newspapers weren't even trying to hide it. Only vampires themselves referred to their kind as the 'Bloodline'; everyone else called them vampires. Yet the newspaper used 'Bloodline' to refer to them from start to finish, and it was either praising them or criticizing their enemies, slapping labels on the opposition.
But people were well aware of this situation; they just didn't say it out loud. The most credible content in the newspaper was the entertainment section.
"Finding Lilith seems to depend on fate. We've done all we can, but there's still no trace...
"Let's just start our vacation. Is there anything you all want to do?"
Anna picked up the newspaper, pointing at the entertainment section:
"Cecelia is coming to this city in a few days to hold a concert. Shall we go listen?"
"Alright."
Loren yawned, looking at the witches who were busy.
Laila and Luna were studying the game console in the room, Scarlett was trying to rescue the person inside the Walkman, Starnight was still perched on Loren's head, shooting hostile glances at Movila who was lying across Loren's lap. Naclis met Loren's gaze for a moment before hurriedly turning her head away.
"Master, there's someone outside the window."
Movila suddenly opened her eyes, looking toward the living room window.
"I'll go check."
Loren got up and walked toward the window. Requiem had never left his body, ready to deal with any sudden situations at any time.
When it came to information gathering, Movila was indeed formidable, essentially equivalent to countless freely movable wards with no restrictions whatsoever, on standby 24/7. Now Loren didn't have to worry about being ambushed at all.
Just as Loren stood up, a knocking sound came from the window.
The person outside hadn't broken through the glass to enter, nor were they waiting outside to ambush him. Instead, they chose to directly inform Loren of their presence, which indicated they harbored no ill intent.
Their identity was quite clear then. They definitely had business with Loren but couldn't come through the front door conveniently.
So, they were from the Bloodline Rebels.
The moon in the Uridia Kingdom was normal, but the stars were the same as ever, so Loren had been keeping the curtains drawn. When he pulled them open, he discovered a woman hanging outside the window.
She was suspended outside using grappling hook-like equipment, a loaded crossbow strapped to her back, a silver dagger at her waist, and even wrist-mounted crossbows and hidden weapons on her arms—she was practically armed to the teeth.
"A Monster Hunter?"
Loren recognized her identity. This equipment was basically the signature gear of Monster Hunters, but it was rare to see someone so fully outfitted.
Silver wasn't cheap. To assemble a full set of gear like this, she must have backing from someone. Who that backer was went without saying.
The strength of Monster Hunters varied, but at best, they were about as strong as a Divine Envoy. They just knew methods to counter those monsters. So Loren wasn't too wary of her. He simply opened the window, wanting to hear what she had to say.
"Respected Master Mentor..."
She had just begun her polite formalities when Loren cut her off. He couldn't be bothered to drag things out with them:
"Get to the point. What's your purpose in coming to me?"
"We beg you not to help the vampires."
This Monster Hunter lady had some brains. She kept her posture very low and used extremely respectful language.
"We don't dare hope for your assistance. We are people who have nothing left. The only meaning left in our lives is revenge. So we have nothing to offer you. But we still beg you not to help them."
The Monster Hunter jumped into the room, directly kneeling before Loren, her head knocking heavily against the floor:
"We can agree to any request you make, even if it's demanding we all commit suicide after our revenge is complete."
"..."
Their attitude was indeed much better than the vampires', so in Loren's eyes, they left a much better impression than the vampires did.
"Get up. I truly don't like vampires. It's highly unlikely I'll help them."
Loren's words were quite tactful. If there were truly substantial benefits, he might still lend a hand. But even this kind of answer satisfied the Monster Hunter.
"By the way, I'd like to meet your leader."
"I will inform him. He can come to see you tomorrow." 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
"The day after tomorrow. I have plans tomorrow."
"Understood."
The leader of the Bloodline Rebels, the mastermind behind all this. The vampires had searched for so long without finding even a shadow of him, and here he was, getting an appointment just because Loren casually mentioned it.
What's more, Loren even postponed it by a day because he was busy.
After concluding negotiations with Loren, the Monster Hunter escaped through the window. Their meeting had been hasty but filled with sincerity.
"I'm even a bit conflicted about whether to help them or not..."
There were many people who harbored such extreme hatred for vampires, many Monster Hunters were like this. Even after the game began, the number of such people hadn't decreased.
The reason was simple: vampires truly committed evil deeds in this country. Their status was indeed high. If they really committed a crime, going through official channels was often useless. That's why people were becoming increasingly radical.
When the law fails to deliver justice to the victims, from that moment on, private retribution becomes justified, even noble.
It must be said, the people of the Uridia Kingdom had much more spine than those of the Gedlan Kingdom.
