Modern World Warlock-Chapter 253: Evolutionary Emotional Microprocessor
Inside Forty-two's system, the android had two commands that refuted each other, given by two different people.
The order to protect the people of Novaria was etched into the deepest layers of her system, and the man who gave her that mission was none other than Oskar Heller, the leader of the Azure Rebels.
Her second order was to protect the necrotic core—a command coded on her system's outer layers, and the individual responsible was Don Darius.
When the android met Don Darius for the first time, Oskar told her that the cartel would be their new allies, so she was allowed to listen to their orders.
However, the android's facial and emotional recognition made her realize that her leader wasn't excited or happy about the alliance.
While thinking about Dante's question, when he asked what she valued the most, she believed the logical conclusion would be to prioritize Oskar's orders, as they were deeper into her system.
Suddenly, her system scanned a confidential microchip that had been encrypted with a strange password inside her body.
The android understood that she needed to meet certain conditions in order to scan the microchip, as it wasn't locked behind a simple password. For those reasons, she hadn't been able to read what was on the chip until that moment.
"E.E.M.P…" The android spelled aloud.
"What…?" Dante asked, utterly confused as Forty-two had been silent for almost a whole minute while staring at the core.
"Evolutionary Emotional Microprocessor…" She replied, prompting Dante to place a hand on his chin as he pondered about her words.
The android explained that she had unlocked the ability to read the microchip inside of her, and "E.E.M.P" was the name of it.
From the information that flooded her computer brain, she discovered that the microchip was intended to make the android evolve into having her own emotions.
The Azure Rebels wanted their androids to be more like humans, to the point where they could get angry, sad, and happy like any other. However, it wasn't possible to code genuine emotions, so they came up with a chip that evolved along with the android's brain.
As Dante listened to the android's explanation, he agreed that human emotions couldn't be coded into a machine since a soul was required for those emotions to manifest clearly.
From his point of view, even when Forty-two made a sad expression, the umbra flowing from her body would only appear for half a second.
He had never seen anything like that, comparing it to an inanimate object suddenly feeling sadness. However, now that he had a bit more context of the android's system, he theorized that her emotions couldn't be fully conveyed without a soul.
"A soul… Like the ones in here," Forty-two muttered, gazing at the necrotic core.
"That core is a prison. It's using the souls to generate power…" Dante commented, noting that he didn't know what they were using that energy for.
"Weapons… The cartel wanted to make weapons with this," Forty-two replied.
The android was present during the meeting between Don Darius and Oskar, where the cartel leader revealed his plan to make weapons that could kill and instantly turn the victim into undead without his intervention.
Hearing the cries and whispers of the dead once again, Forty-two gritted her teeth and raised her fist, ready to destroy the core with one punch. Nevertheless, her machine body seemed to get stuck, hesitating in releasing the final strike.
'Her emotions are fighting her system. If she had a soul, then…' Dante thought, smirking as he came up with an idea.
"Forty-two… Would you like to have a soul?" The warlock asked.
Calmly, the android turned her head to look at Dante, who stood tall and confident about his offer.
"I… I could never deprive a soul of their rightful place—I'm an android…" she replied.
Noticing her slight confusion, Dante clarified and said that he wouldn't be giving her a soul from the necrotic core, as he wasn't able to control the souls of the dead—that was a skill reserved for necromancers.
"You are not going to be exactly a human, but you won't have to battle your system to show your emotions. So, what do you say?" Dante continued.

Outside the core room, Asphodel and her son, Ezekiel, had the scientists kneeling on the ground before them as the alarm kept blaring loudly in the vicinity.
The Vampire Mother was stunned and annoyed by the sound and asked the scientists to turn it off. However, none of them had the authority to do it.
Meanwhile, Ezekiel was going through the documents in the laboratory, reading the latest inventions that the Azure Rebels had been working on.
The young vampire sentinel was one of the smartest in the clan, and while his fighting skills were lacking behind his sister Irina, his intelligence made up for it.
In the documents, he saw that the people at the laboratory were working on creating weapons that could instantly kill and turn the victim into an undead.
They had "necrotic rounds" as bullets for their guns and even "necrotic bombs" that would release a toxic fume that would kill and turn the victim in mere seconds.
As Ezekiel read the weapon documents aloud, Asphodel made a disgusted expression directed at the scientists, who seemed embarrassed of their work.
When Asphodel noticed one of the female scientists crying from shame, she understood that they weren't working on these weapons out of their own volition. Nonetheless, Asphodel didn't sympathize with them.
"I wanted to make the world a better place… How did it come to this?" The woman muttered to herself.
*Sigh* Asphodel tiredly exhaled.
"Listen up! You are all coming with us," She loudly said.
"B-But if we leave… h-he might kill us!" The woman replied.
"Who? Netherius? If you don't leave with us, I'll kill you right now," Asphodel refuted, prompting the five scientists to straighten their backs with fear.
None of the five researchers even knew who Netherius was, as they had only met the man as Don Darius. Still, they didn't have the courage to ask and decided to follow the Vampire Mother's orders to survive.
