Modern World Warlock-Chapter 302: Fire Death Knight (Part 2)
As the battle against the fire Death Knight got more intense, Zac's muscles seemed to strain for a brief moment as he swung the bat with all of his might.
Even when the Death Knight protected himself from the attack, the force was enough to blast him away, destroying a pillar and crashing through the display of another store.
Curtis followed it up with a powerful spell called "Fire Surge," which generated a massive wave of flames that covered the entire shop.
Still, the Death Knight emerged from the fire, his body covered in flames, and waved his sword with one hand, releasing a fire slice that caught the platform they were standing on, making it collapse all the way to the ground floor.
Both Curtis and Zac stayed calm and dropped down to the bottom floor along with the Death Knight, debris and glass shards falling all around them.
The redhead and the blond had good synergy when fighting together as if they knew each of their moves by memory. After having trained together for weeks, their teamwork had improved without them noticing.
While Curtis shot fire bullets at their opponent to divert his attention from Zac, he flanked the knight and slammed his torso with another powerful swing of his bat that resonated like a bell.
When the Death Knight stood up and shook the debris off his body, the pair could see a crack and a dent in his armor, so Zac knew that his attacks were working. He just had to keep hitting him.
Nevertheless, the crack on his armor seemed to be the catalyst for the Death Knight to increase the intensity of his power, releasing a nova of fire around him that scorched everything it touched, making Zac and Curtis step away with haste.
In the blink of an eye, right after the nova dissipated, the knight appeared in front of Zac and waved his sword horizontally, aiming at the redhead's neck, who managed to duck and avoid it.
Curtis shot a small fireball from the side that hit the knight in the head, and while it didn't cause any significant damage, it was enough of a diversion for Zac to retaliate with a spartan kick to the chest.
The Death Knight slid back as his armor cracked a bit more from the strength of Zac's kick, but the redhead didn't leave him a moment to rest, quickly advancing towards the knight with his bat in hand.
Their weapons clashed continuously for a few seconds in a barrage of attacks that were almost too quick for the ordinary human to discern, and Curtis used that moment to flank the knight.
Zac noticed the blond's plan, and instead of blocking one of the attacks directed at him, he threw his bat upward to distract the knight.
The redhead received a slash on the shoulder, but he didn't stop and grabbed the knight by the arms with all of his strength, preventing him from moving.
When the Death Knight realized the position he was in, his armor began producing powerful flames that burned Zac's hands, making him yell with rage and pain while strengthening his grip even more.
After a few seconds of struggling, Curtis appeared behind the knight and placed his hand on his back.
"Inferno," Curtis muttered, prompting Zac to instantly back away with a long jump so he wouldn't get caught in the spell.
As the cracks in the knight's armor began to glow, a massive pillar of fire surrounded him, followed by an explosion that turned his body to ash along with his armor.
The fire rose all the way to the glass ceiling, shattering all that was left of it and scorching the surroundings with intensity.
When the intense flames slowly dissipated, most of the mall was caught up in the fire, prompting Curtis to exhale and lower his hands in a slow motion that made the remaining flames go out.
Still, he knew that it didn't matter if the entire structure was demolished since it had been wholly corrupted.
Zac sat on the ground for a moment and glanced at his hands, which were charred black from the burnt he received after grabbing the Death Knight's armor, and he could still hear his skin sizzling from the burn.
After the redhead used his healthstone to heal his third-degree burns, Curtis extended his hand to help him stand up.
When the pair first entered the mall, it was fully corrupted and filled with zombies, and as they took one last look around, the structure couldn't be recognized as such anymore—it was all in ruins.
"Let's go back to the checkpoint for now…" Curtis said, noticing that his earpiece wasn't working.
Their mission was to scout the necropolis to look for any clues or weaknesses, and knowing that there were necrotic cores spread around the city, the blond believed it would be helpful to inform the others.
However, their signal was jammed, so their best option was to return to the checkpoint outside the necropolis.
"How are our communications jammed? It was working before we entered the mall…" Zac pondered.
At first, the pair thought the mall's location was the cause, but after walking outside and trying to contact the other teams, they concluded their communication was being jammed by someone else.
"I'm getting a bad feeling…" Curtis muttered.
Just as the blond spoke, the pressure around them seemed to increase, making their bodies feel heavy and halting their movements entirely.
"This feeling…!" Curtis said as he struggled to stay standing.
Suddenly, a large man crashed down from the skies into the streets, generating a shockwave that pushed the pair back a few meters away.
*Tch* "Now!?" Curtis exclaimed, knowing the man who had just arrived. freēwēbnovel.com
"Ahaha! I thought I sensed a familiar presence nearby… But, who do we have here?" said the man as the cloud of dust slowly disappeared, showing Saturio's frame standing tall before the pair.
"You know this man?" Zac asked his friend with a bit of hesitation.
"That's the Death Knight that broke my arm…" Curtis replied with a frown.
