Chapter 412: The Future

TO BE HONEST, Winter wasn’t sure what he could say or not.

Of course, he wasn’t stupid enough to reveal things he knew he shouldn’t.

Having said that, I’m still conflicted.

After all, Winter didn’t know if this entire thing was a dream or not. Because if it was just a dream, then he could say anything he wanted to say to comfort Julian.

However, if he really returned to the past...

Then I can’t carelessly change things here because the future might be affected.

"Winter, are you okay?"

"I should be the one asking you that, Young Lord," Winter said, his train of thought getting cut off because of Julian’s question. "Have you calmed down?"

To be honest, he felt bad that he could only watch Julian cry.

["Then why don’t I feel Father’s love?"]

That was Julian’s question that Winter couldn’t answer.

I mean, I know Daddy was a jerk to Brother Julian in the past.

But that was only because his father was under the influence of the bad emperor.

The problem was he couldn’t say it out loud. After all, in this timeline, that bad emperor was practically ruling the world.

Oh, right!

"Young Lord, do you believe in reincarnation?"

"I suppose I do," Julian said while nodding. "Our religion teaches us that your accumulated karma will dictate whether you’ll be lucky or not in your next life. Why do you ask?"

"You’ll understand everything in the future, Young Lord," Winter said, awkwardly patting Julian on the shoulder. "But please know that you’re loved— trust me on this."

"I don’t know what to feel about that, Winter."

"Huh?"

"Are you saying that I need to die and be reborn first before I experience being loved by my own father?"

Oh, no.

I was never good at expressing myself with words, so why did I even try?

Now Winter couldn’t help but kick himself.

"Don’t feel bad, Winter," Julian said, smiling. "I was just joking."

"Young lord, self-deprecating jokes don’t suit you," Winter said firmly. He knew he was crossing the line, but he had to say what needed to be said. "I know it’s not okay that your father is mean to you. But I can tell you one thing for sure— your mother loved you. If she were still alive, she wouldn’t let your father treat you like this."

Julian blinked as if he was surprised, and then he smiled. "Did you see my mother? Was it in the past? Or are you talking about the mother I’ll have in my next life?"

"They’re the same person."

Actually, Winter said that on purpose to test if this world would punish him for giving Julian a "major spoiler."

However, nothing happened.

Is this a dream then?

"Winter, your nose is bleeding."

"Huh?"

Julian immediately ripped his sleeve, and then he used the cloth to cover Winter’s nose. "Don’t look down."

Ah, Winter suddenly felt dizzy.

Is this my punishment for saying something I shouldn’t have?

***

WINTER wasn’t really built to be a servant.

In fact, I made my brother take care of me when it was supposed to be the other way around.

Last night, Julian took care of his nosebleed. Then his brother even tucked him in bed. And then he left without asking Winter about his "visions."

Winter was also tired from using his brainpower, so he immediately fell asleep.

Then, that morning, he was woken up by the head servant of Julian’s palace.

I was woken up to work.

The head servant tried to make Winter help in the kitchen— but he just broke the plates that he was supposed to wash.

He was kicked out of the kitchen then.

After that, the head servant tried to make Winter chop wood.

However...

"Why are you making a frail child chop wood?"

Hmm?

Winter actually didn’t mind, and the axe was already in his hands.

But that axe was suddenly taken away from him by an invisible force, and then the axe turned into ice.

And when Kalel Moonchester snapped his fingers, the frozen axe broke into pieces.

Yes, it was his father’s doing.

But why is Daddy here?

"M-My lord!"

All the servants went on their knees and bowed their heads towards Kalel Moonchester.

Then Winter met his father’s cold gaze.

Oh, right.

I’m supposed to be a servant.

Winter was about to kneel, but he was surprised when his tiny body suddenly floated. The next thing he knew, he was already in Kalel Moonchester’s arms.

But why?

He was just as shocked as the servants around them. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"This child isn’t a servant," Kalel Moonchester said firmly. "He is my guest."

Winter looked at his father in disbelief. "I am, my lord?"

***

"EAT."

Hmm.

Winter wondered why Kalel Moonchester was acting like this, but he’d wonder about that later.

For now, he couldn’t resist the tasty-looking pastries on the table.

Hence, he thanked his father and started snacking on the deserts.

Wow, they’re good.

"Child, are you stupid or just too trusting?"

Aish.

This version of my father is really frustrating.

"It’s not like I trust my lord 100%," Winter lied after finishing a bread that he didn’t know the name. And then he gulped down the tea before speaking again. "But I just know you wouldn’t kill your son’s friend, my lord."

Kalel Moonchester raised an eyebrow. "You use foreign words, child."

Oops.

I’m too careless since I feel relaxed around Daddy.

Winter stopped eating, feeling like he’d get indigestion because of the mistake he made.

I should really be careful from now on.

"Eat," Kalel Moonchester said firmly. "I won’t ask you about the way you speak, so be at ease."

Really?

Winter started eating again, cautiously this time.

"Let me ask one thing, though," Kalel Moonchester said in a soft voice, the look on his face melancholic. "Tell me about the woman you saw in your vision."

Ah, Daddy is asking about Mommy.

Since Winter didn’t get a punishment when he opened his mouth last night...

I guess it’s okay, then?

"The beautiful, brave, and kind woman I saw in my dreams..." Winter said, gulping because he suddenly felt nervous. "My lord, she is your savior— argh!"

A sudden pang in his heart made him clutch his chest, shutting his eyes tight.

It hurts...

"Child!"

As Winter lost consciousness, and before everything turned black, he heard an angry voice ringing in his head.

"I didn’t bring you to the past to console your family, you foolish child!"
