Mommy Villainess-Chapter 413: Mission Impossible
"I ALREADY know you’re awake, Moon Serpent."
Argh.
Winter fell asleep for a moment, but only for a moment since his consciousness came back as soon as his back hit what seemed like a soft mattress.
He wanted to pretend to be asleep for a little bit to wait for something to happen.
But I got caught easily.
Winter opened his eyes.
The first thing that he saw was a little mushroom with a pair of little wings.
It was cute, but the deep female voice that came out of it was scary.
"Why are you wasting your time doing dumb things?!"
"A talking winged mushroom..."
That wasn’t the only strange thing there.
Winter also noticed that he was in what seemed like a cave.
The fancy kind of cave, if there was such a thing.
Well, the walls were sparkling because of the precious and colorful gemstones attached to them. Even the spring in the middle of the cave was shining. The full moon was also reflected on the water since the cave had a huge hole above.
On the other hand, Winter sat on what seemed like a giant leaf.
It feels softer than a mattress, though.
"Child, are you listening?!"
"No," Winter said bluntly, his gaze landing on the strange creature after he did a "tour" with his eyes. "I don’t listen to people— or things— that yell at me without telling me what I did wrong."
The winged mushroom was rendered speechless.
I have to let this, uh, person know that they can’t bully me just because I’m a child—
"Of course, a god is still a god."
Excuse?
Well, Winter knew that he was a god.
But that was only because of his father.
So, I’m like a demigod.
Oh, well.
That wasn’t what was important anyway.
"Who are you?"
"Right. Where did my manners go?" the winged mushroom said, obviously talking to herself. "I can’t give you my name since that will make the world notice my presence. If they find out that I sent you to the past, then we’ll be in big trouble."
Ah, so this entity was the one who sent Winter there.
"Are you one of the gods that guard the Plane?"
It was a fair conclusion.
After all, the last thing Winter remembered was being on the Plane while looking for a way to cut Aku Moonchester’s bond with his father...
Oh.
Oh.
"It seems like you finally remembered what you’re supposed to do, child."
"Did you send me here to find out how to undo the string that ties my father’s life to Aku Moonchester?" Winter asked carefully. Of course, he immediately went serious since the talk involved his father. "So, I have to act like a spy."
"You’re not just supposed to gather information, child— you have to cut the string in this timeline."
"What?" Winter asked, surprised. And then he knitted his eyebrows. "But won’t that have some butterfly effect? What if the future changes after I mess up in this timeline? I don’t want to risk it."
After all, a big change in the past would definitely have a huge impact.
Moreover...
"I don’t want a new branch of this world to open up."
Winter was talking about parallel worlds.
He didn’t know how he knew about that theory even though such thing didn’t exist in that time yet.
For some reason, I just knew it.
"You’re right, child. Changing the past would greatly impact the future— or the "present" where you’ve come from," the winged mushroom said while nodding. "However, we’re making an exception for you."
Winter didn’t bother who the "we" the winged mushroom mentioned.
He had a feeling that it was a question that couldn’t be answered.
Hence, he just stayed silent while listening.
"Once you cut the string that binds your father’s life to Auro Moonchester, you’ll be sent back to your current time right away," the winged mushroom explained. "We will use all that we have to support you. Hence, you must succeed. This is the only chance we can give you."
"I appreciate that, but how sure are you that the future won’t be affected?"
The winged mushroom was about to say something, but the entire place suddenly shook hard as if there was an earthquake.
I think I know what this means...
"We don’t have time left, child," the winged mushroom said in a hurry, just like what Winter expected. "Remember, you have to cut the string. Don’t get caught until then."
"I know that you’re in a hurry, but at least give me a power to protect myself," Winter said, almost impatiently. "How could I cut the string when I’m using a random, powerless body?"
The winged mushroom said something.
However, the loud noise of the cave collapsing blocked it.
And Winter’s consciousness was pulled away by darkness.

"BROTHER, why do you care so much about a peasant child?"
"This boy is Julian’s friend, Your Imperial Majesty. Please be careful with your words."
"Why are you addressing your brother so formally?"
"You’re not just my brother now— you’re the emperor of our land."
"You know I don’t care about that."
"Yes, you don’t— but your subordinates do."
"Should I kill them all?"
"Your Imperial Majesty."
"I’m just fooling around, Brother."
Haaah.
Winter already wanted to open his eyes, but he recognized the voice of the person talking to his father.
But even if he didn’t recognize it, his father only had one "brother."
Auro Moonchester...
"Child, how long are you going to pretend to be asleep?"
Tsk.
I got caught again.
Winter slowly opened his eyes.
He knew that he was supposed to be calm since he was pretending to be a peasant.
But anger suddenly rose in his chest when he saw Auro Moonchester.
It’s the person I need to kill...
Before Winter knew it, he was already hissing like the snake that he was— causing both Auro Moonchester and his father to be wary of him.
Oh, no.
