Chapter 415: Scary Invitation

"WINTER, just who are you?"

Huh?

That was Julian’s question as soon as the young master saw him.

Winter wanted to brag about how he finally learned how to clean the backyard, but now he couldn’t do that.

And why does Julian look pale?

Hence, he had no question but to ask.

"Young Master, what do you mean by that?"

"It’s not like I didn’t believe in your ability, but this is still a surprise."

"Young Master, I really don’t understand what you’re saying."

"The vision that you saw recently had come true," Julian said, his voice full of wonder and admiration. "Now, His Majesty is inviting you to the palace."

What?

His fake vision had come true?!

To say that Winter was surprised would be an understatement.

Did I gain a new power in this timeline?!

But he had been bluffing about every stupid thing ever since he came at that weird timeline, hence he had no idea which lie had come true.

He didn’t want to ask Julian because he might get busted.

Fortunately, the young master answered his question even though he didn’t ask.

"Apparently, you saw the palace being attacked by man-eating monsters," Julian said worriedly. "It happened, Winter."

Okay, that was shocking.

Winter almost forgot about scaring the emperor with his fake vision.

Thank you for the reminder, Brother.

"Fortunately, the attack happened when the king had already returned to the palace," Julian explained, and he looked relieved. "Hence, they were able to protect the capital without a problem."

What a shame.

It would have been nice had the emperor been attacked by those monsters.

"Winter, you caught the emperor’s attention."

Well, that was the plan.

"The king decided to hold a royal banquet to celebrate the fact that they were able to save the capital from the monsters," Julian continued with his explanation. "And the king wants you to be there, Winter."

"Do I have the option to turn it down?"

"You want to refuse the king’s invitation?"

"I’m too shy to attend a banquet, my lord."

Julian looked at him in disbelief. "You just don’t want to go, Winter."

Haaah.

Winter avoided his brother’s gaze. "To be honest, I’m just afraid that the king might exploit my talent, my lord."

Julian let out a gasp as if he couldn’t believe what he heard. "Winter, don’t speak that way towards the king. You’re lucky I’m the only person here. But if someone else heard you, then they might report you to the palace. If that happens, not even Father could help you."

Oh, right.

Winter covered his mouth with his hand. "I’ll be really careful then."

"You... you don’t have positive feelings for the king." 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"That’s not true— I’m just indifferent to people I don’t know."

"The king isn’t some ordinary person."

Winter just shrugged.

On the other hand, Julian sighed as if he had already given up on him. "If you have a problem with the king’s invitation, then please consult Father. I can’t help you with turning down His Majesty’s invitation since I don’t have that authority."

"YOU WANT to turn down the king’s invitation?"

Winter gulped, but he nodded at Kalel Moonchester’s question.

He followed Julian’s advice.

And that was how he ended in his father’s room.

His father was busy reading a book and hadn’t lifted his head ever since Winter entered the room.

But Winter didn’t leave even though he could tell that his father was busy.

He simply knelt in front of him and said what he wanted to say.

"Please help me turn His Majesty’s invitation down, my lord."

That was what Winter said earlier.

"Child, do you think you have the right to turn down the king’s invitation?"

Winter flinched.

To be honest, he already knew that a servant like him had no right. In fact, he should be honored to receive an invitation from the king.

But he didn’t really want to go.

That’s why I went to Father and asked for his help, but Father is being difficult.

"Give me a reason," Kalel Moonchester said, closing the book he was reading before lifting his head and looking straight into Winter’s eyes. "Why do you refuse to go to the palace?"

"Can I be honest, my lord?"

"You’ve always been brazen, so go ahead."

"I don’t want the king to exploit my ability."

He was ready to get scolded by his father.

After all, even Julian had a negative reaction to Winter’s refusal to attend the royal banquet.

So, Winter was surprised when Kalel Moonchester laughed.

Oh?

Father is laughing?

"Child, you think the king would exploit your talent?"

"Yes, my lord," Winter said, nodding. He was actually confused by his father’s reaction. But he decided to answer properly first. "I heard from Lord Julian that my vision has come true. So, I won’t be surprised if the king suddenly asks me to work for him."

"Your life will be more comfortable if you start working in the palace, child. Since you already caught the king’s attention, I’m sure he’ll give you a comfortable life."

"I don’t want a comfortable life, my lord."

"What do you want, then?"

"I want to stay here with you and Lord Julian."

Kalel Moonchester raised an eyebrow. "Why do you want to stay with me and my son here?"

"You need me, my lord," Winter said bluntly. "And I also need you."

***

WINTER left his father’s room with a disappointed heart.

After all, Kalel Moonchester didn’t say that he would help him turn down the king’s invitation.

His father just asked him to return to his room.

Haaah.

"Winter."

Aigoo.

Winter was surprised to find Julian in his room. "What are you doing here, young lord?"

"I have a question for you."

"What is it, my lord?"

"Are you here to challenge my authority?"

"Excuse me?"

"My father," Julian said, frowning. "Are you trying to steal my father from me?"

Winter blinked rapidly. "Where did you get that idea, my lord?"
