Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 179: A King’s Declaration (I)
A guardian angel...
Sisi had a thin smile upon hearing that sentence from Kael.
Jojo had said something similar about her, and she preferred that rather than "caretaker." In fact, she preferred that over being called Jojo’s mother.
Of course, she was very happy that Jojo saw her as his mother. But she wasn’t sure how long that sentiment would linger.
She still thought that Jojo would eventually grow apart from her once he got older. Maybe he’d be embarrassed to stay too close to her, just like any teenage boy would.
Sisi was very sensitive about Jojo, and she didn’t know if she could handle the heartache once her own ’son’ rejected her simply because he grew up.
"Let’s go back to Jojo. I’m sure he must’ve been sulky after being left alone for so long," Sisi said.
"R-right." Kael also didn’t understand why he had become so nervous around her. But seeing her smile just now made everything feel better.
Even the usually chattering curse inside his head suddenly went silent for some reason.
They walked side by side back to the pavilion, where Jojo had been sulking while playing with his nails.
His golden eyes were truly a marvel, but Sisi didn’t feel any joy seeing them, knowing that Jojo couldn’t see anything right now.
Kael noticed that Sisi’s steps hastened as they neared Jojo, as if she couldn’t wait to hug the boy and assure him that everything would be fine.
"We’re back, Jojo," Sisi said as she picked up the boy.
Jojo’s face brightened instantly as he clutched Sisi’s dress with his tiny hands. "What took you so long, Sisi? I thought you and Daddy left me alone in here."
"We had a little talk before," Sisi replied. "But everything is fine now. Your Daddy and I have made up."
"Oh! That’s great! That means Daddy has apologized, right?"
"I did," Kael confirmed. "Now that you and Sisi are doing fine, how about we go to the capital square and celebrate the spring festival first?"
Jojo hugged Sisi even tighter when his father said they had to go to the capital square. He was still worried that an evil person would try to hurt Sisi again, so he asked, "Daddy, what if someone attacks Sisi again? I don’t want Sisi to get hurt..."
"Don’t worry. With me here, nobody can touch the two of you—well, except me, of course!" Kael bent a little and hugged Sisi’s thighs with one arm.
"And up we go!"
"Wha—!"
"Uwaaa!"
Both Jojo and Sisi were surprised when Kael suddenly lifted them up and sat them on his arm like he did during the royal banquet.
They looked like a funny stack-of-three family, but rather than being embarrassed, Kael was actually happy to have the two most precious jewels in his arm.
"We should go to the capital square now. I’m sure the beastmen civilians have been waiting for their king, future queen, and crown prince to be present—even for just a few minutes," Kael said.
"W-wait, Kael—" Sisi interrupted. She leaned toward his ear and whispered a question. "What about Jojo? Is it really alright for your people to see him with his golden eyes?"
"That will be fine," Kael replied calmly. He closed his eyes for a few seconds, and in those few seconds, Sisi could feel a visible cold, dark aura seeping out of the Beast King’s body.
It was a complete contrast to Jojo’s, whose body emanated a faint warm yellow aura.
Kael mentioned that he and Jojo bore the Dusk and Dawn Star curse, so Sisi thought Jojo’s Dawn Star curse must have made him warm while Kael’s curse made him cold.
’But if that’s the case, then why would they call it a ’curse’?’ Sisi pondered. ’I understand Kael’s curse, because he looks terrifying. But Jojo is more like an angel with his golden eyes. Wouldn’t that make him a blessing instead of a curse?’
Kael opened his eyes slowly, and they turned bright crimson.
"With this, Jojo won’t be the odd one out," Kael said. "And the beastmen living in the kingdom will know not to mess with my son as well, because we are both powerful."
Honestly, Kael preferred to keep Jojo’s curse a secret, because his identity as the Dawn Star was too dangerous for those who wanted to kill them, just like that bastard tiger Marik.
But at this point, some servants or guards in the palace must have seen the golden eyes, and to keep Jojo hidden for—at worst—five years straight until he recovered from his blindness would be too cruel.
Even if he was blind, his son still deserved to have a normal life, and Kael was sure that Sisi would slap him again if he dared to suggest locking Jojo up somewhere "safe."
Thus, the only option he had was to show his subjects that both he and Jojo were "special," as most of them didn’t know they were cursed.
Upon seeing his insane strength, every beastman Kael met immediately worshipped him as a demigod, and he wanted to capitalize on that by making sure they knew Jojo was also a child "demigod" and would be worshipped as well.
Though for the Dawn Star, it was actually possible to become a real demigod if they tapped into their power, since the Dawn Star of each era was always much stronger than their father.
Kael’s assurance put Sisi’s heart at ease. She just didn’t want Jojo to think that he was weird and singled out.
But since Kael also showed his "true self," then they should be fine.
"Okay, hang on tight. We don’t want to be late!"
Kael dashed through the pavilion and leaped over the palace wall as if it were just a tiny obstacle. Sisi instinctively hugged Kael’s neck tightly, while Jojo hugged her neck just as tight.
"S-slow down—!" Sisi yelled, but Jojo was different. He was excited and asked for more.
"Jump higher, Daddy! It’s so funnn!"
Kael laughed, seeing the two different reactions from his beloved ones. He decided to give them a little tour around the capital city by jumping from one roof to another.
Once they were done, Kael finally landed right on a tall stone platform in the middle of the capital square.
