Chapter 222: Chapter 222: Ignite the War (II)

’Hah, what am I talking about? That idiot Sisi is a damn witch. Of course, she left human civilization for a goddamn primitive forest because she’d be executed here!’ Leah thought.

She turned her head toward the bed next to hers. Marik was still closing his eyes as if he was resting peacefully, but she knew better—Marik actually never slept in peace.

He was always on guard and never allowed Leah to scoot closer to share warmth at night. He growled at her and told her that his heart was already taken by his first love, and he would not allow anyone to touch him.

Leah didn’t know who that woman was, but she knew that she was infinitely better than Marik’s first love. Her beauty was only beaten by Sisi’s, and she doubted that both Marik and Kael harbored their hearts for the same woman!

She wanted to ask Marik what they should do next, but the door was suddenly pushed open, so Leah quickly went into acting mode and stared toward the door with a weak gaze, as if opening her eyes were already a difficult task to do.

But she almost gasped when a handsome man wearing shining silver armor suddenly walked in, followed by the doctors.

The man’s hair was blond and bright like the sun, and his eyes were emerald green. He observed Leah and Marik, then approached Leah first since she was already "awake."

Leah was unable to hide her stupid look as the handsome man drew near her bed. This man was dazzling, probably on par with the Beast King Kael’s handsomeness and aura, though she doubted that he was as strong, because the Beast King’s strength was truly... inhuman. He was more like a demigod than a beastman.

But then again, who gives a damn about power when you could be this handsome?

On top of that, this man even smiled at her, something that both Marik and Kael failed to do!

"My name is Ludwig, the Crown Prince of Barion Kingdom. I’ve read the letter from the village chief near Roc Forest stating that you two are traveling merchants from the Jing Empire who got raided in Roc Forest. Care to tell me the details?"

Leah was about to open her mouth. She wanted to speak as much as possible with this man, hoping that her beautiful voice would entice him and then he’d make her the future queen.

But then Marik suddenly opened his eyes and said in a hoarse voice, "Your Highness, we... we are indeed traveling merchants from Jing Empire. We heard about the upcoming trade route between Jing Empire and Barion Kingdom and thought that Roc Forest was already safe to use for traveling, since it would be a shortcut for us. But we were wrong. We got attacked by a bunch of beastmen..."

"Beastmen?" Crown Prince Ludwig frowned. "I know Roc Forest is home to various beastmen. But I thought they don’t really meddle with humans. In fact, most of them tend to avoid humans because we hunt them."

"B-because this one is different, Your Highness," Marik said. "The group of beastmen is not from one species. I saw a tiger, wolf, elephant, eagle, and other beastmen in that group."

Now the Crown Prince was even more confused because he knew that beastmen generally only worked within their small tribes. That’s why it wasn’t hard to suppress them, because they would never unite as one, unlike humans.

"Are you sure that you’re not mistaken?"

"No, Your Highness. It’s because when we were heading to the north, we saw a kingdom in the middle of the forest, and it is a fully built kingdom, with a fortress and civilization inside," Marik said. "And we saw beastmen of various species walking in and out of the kingdom."

"When they saw us, we were suddenly attacked. They robbed us of all the gold and items that we had, and when we tried to fight back, they attacked us," Marik’s gaze darkened as he "recalled" the robbery. But he was actually recalling the moment Kael stopped them on their track and stole Jojo and Sisi from him.

Nevertheless, the memory was grim enough for Marik to look convincing to everyone present, because he looked like he was really angry over it.

"They killed all of my companions, including the guards. We are the only two who managed to escape and walk through the dangerous forest until we reached the village."

Crown Prince Ludwig’s face turned solemn. His perfunctory smile vanished as he asked, "Do you still remember the path you took and how to reach that kingdom?"

Marik nodded. "I can lead you to that kingdom if you want to, Your Highness. But you have to be careful, because it is a big kingdom, and the beastmen are united despite their various species."

"But even if they have united and look civilized, they are still filthy beastmen at heart. Because they raped all the women in the caravan before killing them, and almost caught my wife too," Marik looked toward Leah who was dumbfounded by how eloquent Marik was, to the point that she was also convinced that they were attacked by other beastmen. "I’m still lucky to save my wife, even if I almost got killed myself."

Leah knew she had to add fuel to the fire, so she began sobbing and said, "I was so scared. I really thought that I’d die there when those filthy beastmen were looking at me perversely."

Crown Prince Ludwig clenched his fists as he grew angry at the idea of those filthy beastmen attacking, raping, and killing an innocent human caravan.

"Your Highness, we... we’ve seen the king too when he commanded the raid," Marik added. "He said that he’ll loot more and more caravans, and the kingdom will get rich doing it this way. Then he’ll expand his Beast Kingdom until it’s bigger than Barion Kingdom or Jing Empire."

That last sentence was enough to set fire in the Crown Prince’s head, fearing that a kingdom full of savages would grow too big if he didn’t squash those beastmen as soon as possible.
