Monster Gacha System: Becoming The Final Boss-Chapter 160 | The Leviathan
In the northern fortress city of the central region, a Vampire Noble gazed upon the lines of the boundless horizon. Its expanse blurred beyond the boundaries of heaven and earth.
A reminder of the vastness that the New World held.
But as he listened to the whistle and hum of the desolate breeze, another vampire scurried towards him, cold sweat dripping from their forehead.
His eyebrows rose, curious about what caused such a hideous-looking appearance. After all, his subordinate didn't even bother maintaining a minimum decorum.
"Sir! The monstrous tide! It has surfaced once again. Our outposts are being trampled. We just got the news before losing contact with the first outpost over a hundred kilometers away."
The subordinate reported while taking shaky breaths.
He had bolted towards their location as fast as possible, which meant that he sprinted for dozens of kilometers in a couple of seconds.
The Vampire Noble furrowed his eyebrows, recalling the disastrous monstrous tide that had made the outer regions inaccessable to the Clan.
Just when they thought that the monstrous tide had finally withdrawn, another siege was about to come for their city. The thought alone made his heart pound.
"Call for reinforcements from the capital! I want our aetheric weapons ready! Also, we need the assistance of the True Bloods."
The Vampire Noble understood the importance of True Bloods to the Clan. After all, there were only a few that remained. Two, in fact. Most died in the hands of the White Devil.
None of the vampires showed much of a reaction when they heard the news. After all, it was an expected sacrifice when handling the White Devil.
At the very least, that obstacle of their race had finally been handled by the progenitor. Otherwise, most would lament the deaths of the True Bloods.
"This fortress city is the gate of the capital to the north. Once it falls, the capital would be the next target for the monstrous tide."
The Vampire Noble explained his reasoning and why he was confident that the Clan would send a True Blood as reinforcements.
His subordinate finally nodded in understanding and bolted back to relay his commands. He nodded in satisfaction, appreciating the lack of questions.
He'd rather avoid having his authority questioned in such desperate times. After all, it would be troublesome for the cohesion of the fortress city.
It reflected severely on him.
The Vampire Noble returned his crimson gaze towards the blurred horizon. His eyes furrowed as his peering vision pierced beyond the veil of the heavens and the earth.
It was then his crimson eyes widened in shock.
What emerged before his perception wasn't an army of monsters like before. It was a single being, a gargantuan whale-like monstrous creature that spanned over a kilometer.
It was akin to a flying mountain.
"What the-" The Vampire Noble felt his balance wobble as the Leviathan soared towards the fortress city. Its size alone could crush a sizeable chunk of the cityscape.
Their aetheric weapons didn't stand a chance.
Perhaps only a True Blood could resist the onslaught of the Leviathan.
In the far distance, the gargantuan monstrous abomination swam through the stormy heavens. Lightning bolts rattled upon its scales as the winds divided, giving way to its massive body.
It had hundreds of eyes scattered throughout its whale-like body, each of which was pointed towards the northern fortress city that stood between itself and the capital of the Clan.
The Vampire Noble promptly realized that the fortress city would be flattened before a True Blood arrives. With this in mind, he decided to return to the council hall situated in the center.
Walking through the vast hallway, he noticed several vampires entering and exiting the council hall. It was clear that the governing body was in disarray.
As he entered the council hall, several Vampire Nobles were arguing with each other about what to do. Some wanted to stand their ground and escape, while the others wanted to evacuate to the capital.
He gazed upon them, somewhat disappointed at how they acted. But he shook his head and coughed, attracting the attention of his colleagues.
"We should fight, General!" A council elder declared, while another cursed him out loud before speaking to the newly arrived Vampire Noble.
"Withdraw, we must. Our defenses don't stand a chance against the monstrous tide."
Once again, the council hall became rowdy, filled with curses and arguments. The two sides of the fortress city were fighting for control.
The decision of the Garrison General would decide on what should be done with the city, so the council elders really wanted him to be standing beside him.
Unfortunately for those who wish not to disrupt the fortress city and have the garrison defend as usual, the Vampire Noble already made his decision.
"I have already made my decision."
"Our enemy is a single monster. But its power rivalled a Paragon or a True Blood. As such, the fortress city will be evacuated. The garrison will stay behind and buy time."
Hearing his words, both sides were astounded. He didn't clearly support one side over the other. After all, those who wanted to withdraw wanted to bring their divisions with them.
On the other hand, those who wanted to defend the fortress city didn't want the normal everyday life of the citizens to be disrupted.
"What about the aetheric weapons? Are you sure they don't stand a chance?" A council elder questioned, making the Garrison General shake his head.
"The power output of our aetheric weapons isn't enough. Unless you can comfortably say that we are capable of killing a True Blood or a Paragon ourselves."
He countered, forcing the council elder to take a step back. The decision has already been made. No matter what discussions took place in the council hall.
It would be all for naught.
"Prepare for the evacuation. I want the citizens to withdraw from the city borders in half an hour." The Vampire Noble commanded before leaving the council hall.
The council elders were astounded, but couldn't utter a single word. They were completely distraught and decided to follow the orders he had uttered.
Aetheric cannons stationed on the giant walls of the fortress city pointed their barrels towards the direction of the monstrous tide, preparing for what was about to come.
Those who belonged to the garrison poured from every corner, each of them holding a weapon. These vampires were the elites of the garrison, led by the Garrison General themselves.
They stood in a line as the flag of the fortress city swayed on a pole. The breeze was cold and windy as the Vampire Noble stood on the concrete stage, overseeing the elites.
"The evacuation of the fortress city has begun. Our mission is to delay the incoming monstrous abomination that plagues the heavens above."
"This will be a battle to the death, but remember the honor of fighting to protect the gate of the north. We are the guards of the Clan, the one and only."
"Protector of the borders and fortress cities."
His words echoed through the staging ground as the elites of the garrison raised their heads, each determined to fight until the end.
Even though a single one of them was much stronger than a squad of humans, they radiated human-like qualities of defiance amidst what can be considered the retribution of nature.
"I will fight with you for I stand with this city even if it becomes a ruin."
The Vampire Noble's lips curled into a subtle smile as thunder reverberated from the distance. Its light flashed as the ground shook for a moment.
He turned his crimson gaze towards the heavens and saw the looming silhouette of the Leviathan. Cold sweat dripped from his forehead as his heart pounded.
It was as though he was facing an actual Aberrant, a divine abomination of the skies.
The elites felt their chests clench with fear. Their pupils shrank, yet none of them made a single step back. All of them stood their ground, awaiting the orders of the Garrison General.
The Vampire Noble took a deep breath and calmed himself. His crimson eyes narrowed as he roared with all his might. "For the Clan!"
Without any hesitation or delay, the aetheric cannons fired beams of aether, which penetrated through the skies. Each impacted a section of the Leviathan's body, but the monstrous abomination kept soaring.
Every aetheric weapon within the fortress city was hurling all the power it had. It was in the bid to delay the Leviathan for even a single second.
The Vampire Noble charged, pointing his sword forward. His elites followed from behind as they bolted towards the monstrous abomination.
As though their firepower was nothing more than a spec of dust, the Leviathan ignored the beams of aetheric light and roared at the incoming vampires.
Its thunderous sound alone caused every orifice of the vampires to bleed, but promptly healed and continued their charge. This battle would be recorded in the history of the vampires.
Yet, it wasn't the only one.
