Monster Gacha System: Becoming The Final Boss-Chapter 174 | The Capital Finale Part 2
In the fortified capital city of Denver, the higher echelons of the Federation gathered together in an assembly within the New White House. Beside them were the Paragons of the SIGIL and the directors of CORE. The subject of the assembly was the Seventh Paragon.
The strongest of humanity, and its guardian.
Now that they had lost contact with her, things had been hectic throughout the upperhalf of the New World. People were migrating upward, overloading cities already crowded with refugees.
The Federation was confronting a division with power, consolidating in either CORE or the newly promoted Paragon, Rogue Blade. As a result, debates tend to be heated in the assembly.
"I suggest absorbing SIGIL into the Federal Government and transforming it into a department of its own."
"I believe so, too."
"What kind of bullshit are you spouting!?"
"Even if the Seventh Paragon is gone, that doens't mean that the SIGIL is free for the taking."
"The Federal Government and CORE have already agreed on the dissolution of the SIGIL."
"That isn't for you to decide!"
Arguments rang through the marble pillars of the assembly room while guards stood in the corner, cold sweat dripping from their foreheads.
The SIGIL was currently facing the combined forces of the Federal Government and CORE. Now that the strongest metahuman was gone, the foolish politicians thought that they could force the organization to become a public organization.
Which meant that they would be affiliated with the Federal Government. It was an astounding policy as it relies on the SIGIL wanting itself to be devoured by the hyenas in the Federation.
Amongst the crowd of people within the assembly, Francine calmly gazed upon the major politicians of the Federal Government and the directors of CORE. The reason for the unexpected alliance was simple.
They wanted to split SIGIL apart and acquire its authority.
Obviously, she wasn't willing to let them do so. Despite its flaws, the SIGIL was an organization built by the Seventh Paragon. It was an organization of metahumans that became the guardians of humanity.
"Ehem..." Francine coughed, attracting the attention of everyone within the assembly room. Her sapphire-like eyes narrowed behind her gold-tinted glasses as she declared with an air of authority.
"Just because Miss Alastair is temporarily unavailable doesn't mean that you can throw policies to break the SIGIL apart. Are you assuming that we won't make a move of our own and become lambs for slaughter?"
"Are you resisting, Rogue Blade?" A politician squinted his eyes, glaring at the Paragon in front of him. Yet, his back shivered when she gazed upon him and smiled. "What if I am?"
"What if we are?"
"Do you know how the Revolution occurred years ago? You think we can't do it again? What? Because Miss Alastair isn't standing beside us?"
"You seem to be looking at the situation in the wrong way. The Seventh Paragon wasn't limiting the Federal Government and the CORE from making their moves."
"She was the law of the SIGIL, the one holding the Paragons from becoming warlords and splitting apart the upperhalf of the New World."
"No matter what kind of shady experiments or technologies you build. It doesn't matter in the face of power that defiles the figment of reality."
Her words echoed throughout the assembly room. It wasn't a mere declaration, but a threat to everyone. They were the predator here, the SIGIL was.
The Seventh Paragon was their master and had them on a collar. However, just because they were subjugated doesn't mean that they would merely follow another master.
That would be a dumb process.
It took a moment for her words to settle. The politicians of the Federation and the directors of CORE finally realized the situation at hand. Even with the strongest of humanity gone, the Paragons held power.
Now that their leader was unavailable, who was stopping them from gobbling everything up? Chills echoed throughout their spines from that moment on.
It was a realization that in the New World, the metahumans held power.
An eerie silence permeated throughout the assembly room, but it was broken by a light chuckle from the Rogue Blade. "No need to be so anxious. The SIGIL aren't beasts."
"Luckily for you, I already handled the rebellious Paragons. Otherwise, some would be carving up the Federation for themselves."
"It would be quite troublesome, don't you think?" She tilted her head while smirking at them. Everyone lowered their gaze as she tapped the wooden table before her.
"I don't like snakes... Usually, I would behead leeches and serpents lurking in my sight. But I'll have to exercise some caution."
"I wouldn't want to decimate the congress or the board of directors." Her rhythmic tapping echoed throughout the assembly room as she continued.
"Regardless, however... My junior is currently handling the lower half of the New World. He's capable and might rival me in terms of strength."
"I want you to stabilize the situation in the Federation. Those who dare to use the situation as an opportunity to become rebellious will be executed no matter their ranks."
"I hope that you understand my warning?" Francine questioned them as the politicians and directors excessively nodded in agreement. No one wanted to confront the ruthless lady in front of them.
After all, she was the one who killed the Sixth Paragon.
Before those in the assembly room could continue their conversation, a communication officer entered while panting. Sweat dripped from his body as he felt the gaze of the Federation's higher echelons.
Straightening his back, the communication officer reported.
"We have news from the lower half of the New World. The Clan is falling apart and is being pushed back further south."
His words resounded through the assembly room, leaving everyone dumbfounded. After all, the reason for the meeting wasn't merely about the SIGIL but also the Clan.
They needed to prepare themselves for an invasion. Especially when the strongest of humanity, the only one who could contend against the progenitor, was gone.
So when they heard that the Clan was being purged further south. It was as though they were hearing another human civilization outside of the New World.
"How can that be?"
"Don't tell me..."
Everyone turned their gaze towards Francine, who maintained her indifference yet was flooded with exasperated thoughts. She didn't expect Damien to be so capable.
It shocked her, yet it was also to be expected.
After all, he was her student. Someone she and Alastair personally nurtured to become the next generation of the Seventh Division.
"Didn't I already tell you? My junior will handle the lower half of the New World. On the other hand, I would love you to keep yourselves in your place."
Her ample lips curled into an oppressive smile while the politicians of the Federal Government and the directors of CORE avoided her sapphire-like gaze.
Meanwhile...
Damien watched as his monsters trampled upon the desolate capital, leaving eternal devastation behind. But amongst the monstrous abomination was a lone True Blood fighting for their homeland.
It might seem courageous, but he could see Terror growing.
