Mr Bodyguard, Protect Your Heart!-Chapter 176: HIDDEN CURSE
All these years, Dove had thought that she had become strong in her heart regarding this matter, and it just doesn’t affect her anymore. She thought that she was just fine and has already belived that she had no one whom she considered as her brother.
But now, now that she was here, confronting him, those resistance, those strong barriers crumbled, and she couldn’t help but feel emotional.
"You tell me, that you want us to be like before? Hah!" Dove scoffed as her face started turning red, and then continued, "But Mr Noah, I did not even know the reason why we stopped being that in the first place.
You ask me to forgive you? But I don’t even know why did you do that to me in the first place at all?"
Seeing her in that state with years flowing out, Noah’s eyes couldn’t help but turn red and teary too.
Dove’s lips shivered and when she realised how he situation and emotions were going off track from what she has determined, she tried to get herself together instantly. Rubbing her eyes, and taking a deep breath, she looked back at Noah with a straight face and said, "Mr Noah, it would be better if we don’t bring up the matter of the past. And if there is nothing important, then I must go."
And just when she turned on her heels to get going, Noah caught her hand, making her halt, then freeze for a second, before furrowing her eyebrows. And when she turned her head, she found his head casted downwards.
And before she could say anything, Noah started speaking, his head still not raised, "I know I was wrong, Dove. I know I was terribly wrong. I hurt you very much in many ways, and i also know that it isn’t easy for you to forgive me, and I don’t blame you. I know that I have been a jerk for neglecting and avoiding such a close family member. But trust me Dove, I had realised my mistake a long time ago. But then, I also couldn’t approach you because I was afraid that maybe it was too0 late. And my fear for that, actually made me much more late. You had already drifted away from me."
Noah then slowly raised his head. Moisture glistening his eyes, and then taking a deep breathe, he continued, "And now I don’t want to delay it any longer, Dove. I am really sorry. I know, a sorry can not erase all the pain that I must have caused you, must please forgive me." Dove closed her eyes, taking a deep breath, and then opening her head she intended on shaking her head mildly, wanting to say him that there was no use. But before she could, Noah said, "Years ago, even I was young, Dove. And I was adopted. And though, it would look as a fortune and a good luck to the world, which I am not denying, I was indeed blessed. And what was not seen in the plain sight was that, along with being a blessing, it also carried a hidden curse."
Dove furrowed her brows mildly, not fully understanding what he meant by it, and she asked with a low whisper, "What do you mean?" Noah gulped, as he looked at the question on her face, and lowered his eyes from her face to the ground, and said, "Everyone knew that I was adopted by the Sterling family. And they would mention it naturally. At first, it was not something that was bothering or anything like that. I simply ignored it. But slowly as time went, it started becoming heavier and heavier.
Every time, people around me thought and reminded me of my origin, that I was not the real family member of the Sterling family. That I was adopted. That I don’t deserve any of what I have, and I am what I am and I have what I have only because I was adopted my the Sterling family." 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Noah gulped, a painful lump forming in his throat, and after a second’s halt, he continued, " At first, I tried, Dove. I really tried to not get affected by any of those. But at that time, I couldn’t hold myself for long to not get consumed by those hateful feelings. And slowly, I started distancing myself from you, from the family. And when I finally realised how wrong I was, that the world always had something to say, no matter what, and when I realised how I have hurt people around me, maybe it was already late for you."
He let out a shaky breathe, and then continued, "You already started avoiding me. Not that I blame you, and if I have to blame it was me. I was afraid that you approach you and ask for forgiveness. And when you left the country, it was as if I lost a big chance. Even now, Dove, even now I am scared. But after learning my lessons in all those years, I know one thing for sure, and that is, asking for your forgiveness, and hoping that we could go back like we were before, is much easier for me, than to just not say anything and let everything pass like nothing was wrong. At least, maybe the clawing feeling in my heart would lessen a little. And maybe, the situation wouldn’t get much worse than what it once was.
Dove couldn’t say anything, as she simply stared at him. At this moment, after hearing everything what he said, she felt her mind puzzled and confused, with different kinds of emotions going on in her heart. She was still angry and that was true. But if what Noah told her was true, then, she suddenly had a prick in your heart.
To think that, the brother you used to think as your own, and look up to, he had faced discrimination and bullying enough to push him away from the family, just because he did not share the same blood. And she pressed her lips, looking at Noah. She did not know what exactly to say or even think.
Noah looked down, his heart racing, waiting for Dove to say something. It was true that, he did not tell her what was the real reason for him to avoid Dove, but that did not mean that whatever he said was a lie completely.
